"Despite dire predictions that the streets would be awash in military-style guns, the expiration of the decade-long assault weapons ban last September has not set off a sustained surge in the weapons' sales, gun makers and sellers say. It also has not caused any noticeable increase in gun crime in the past seven months, according to several metropolitan police departments."

"Sandy Froman is a crack shot, and this week she is the new president of the National Rifle Association.'

"he nation's four million gun owners, represented by the powerful NRA, believe their constitutional right to bear arms is constantly being threatened. The NRA is one of the biggest lobbying groups in the country, and Froman speaks their language." ...

"As president, Froman won't run the day-to-day operations of the NRA. But like her predecessor, Charlton Heston, she will use the NRA's pulpit to spread her message."

"Anti-gun people think you are stupid, so they target you..."

"Yes targets. Women are targets of a very successful campaign to lead you down a path to a world view that sounds great on the surface, but terminates in a very dreary dead end. There is a very powerful element in the U.S. that wants you to believe that firearms are bad, and that there is an epidemic of death by guns, especially among children. ...This same element of society wants to use fear to frighten people into believing that children are at a high risk due to 'assault weapons' and machine guns. This element wants you to know that drug dealers and gang members buy 'evil looking guns' because of gun show loopholes and that there are extra-deadly bullets called 'cop killers' that are a menace to society. They do all this by playing on your natural emotions and fears, and they are very successful."

"At first, James Meredith seemed just a concerned resident, standing at a school bus stop near his Norfolk home telling drivers to slow down. Soon, though, some residents say he began yelling at them, jumping out in front of their cars, and, at times, clocking their speed with a radar gun."

"His civic activism reached criminal proportions a few months ago, prosecutors say, when Meredith, a Boston police sergeant, broke off the passenger-side mirror of a sport utility vehicle as its driver tried to swerve around him. Now he's charged with wanton destruction of property, according to court records, and the Boston Police Department says it has launched an internal affairs investigation."

"A couple of weeks ago, while cruising up Main Street, Highway 160 that is, I occasioned upon a gentleman I hadn't seen in several months. And there he was, just as serene as ever, with his American flag and with the ever-present handgun at his side. 'The Flagman' (alias Ray Mallow) is as much a fixture in Pahrump as Saddle West or the Calvada duck pond." ...

"During our conversation he reminded me that it is perfectly legal for him, along with all other citizens of Nye County who haven't had their Second Amendment rights revoked, to travel about the community with a holstered handgun."

"And you know that he's so right. Many newcomers to Nye County, Pahrump in particular, are of the opinion that he and others are in violation of some law. A few people have gone so far as to call the sheriff's office to report a breach of a nonexistent law. How wrong they are."

"Most turkey hunters have great faith in the ability of their favorite turkey guns to drop gobblers at long distances. Yet, surprisingly few actually know how well their guns pattern at different distances and whether the shot pattern actually goes to the exact spot where they aim. Most turkey hunters don't spend time at the shooting range to determine exactly how their guns perform."

“You don’t know what you’re talking about when you claim a combination rifle/shotgun is better for turkey hunting than a full choke 32-inch barrel 10-gauge autoloader. My 10-gauge Ithaca has no equal in the turkey woods. The big 10- gauge shell in the 32-inch barrel shoots twice as hard and far as a 12-gauge.” ...

"From a velocity standpoint, all gauges, even down to the .410 bore, fall into velocity readings running between 1,100 to 1,350 feet per second."

"I’m sure there exceptions, and some of the new factory ammo now available may even offer more velocity, but no shotgun shell shoots twice as hard as another shell of comparable loading."

"I have to take this another step. The larger the shotshell, the more pellets it will hold."
