"Imagine this: a family is asleep in their beds at 3:30 in the morning and an armed robber breaks into their home. Because their governments have banned personal firearm ownership they are completely defenseless. You out law guns and then only the out laws have guns; it’s not a pretty situation. There are many myths surrounding gun control and the facts about places that have tried it, in this speech I intend to debunk as many of them as possible."

"It is a common misconception that if guns are made illegal that we won’t have as much crime and people will be in less danger of getting shot in a gun related crime. Guns prevent 2.5 million crimes every year, or over 6000 daily. ..." ...

Letter-writer Jerry Schneider thinks the Second Amendment doesn't apply to modern firearms since the Founding Fathers knew only muzzle-loaders ["You may bear arms--but only rod-and-ball variety," April 14].

Using the same illogical process, Mr. Schneider's use of his dangerous assault computer to attack the Bill of Rights isn't protected under the First Amendment, since the Founding Fathers' concept of written communication was limited to the use of crude printing presses and quill pens.

He can't have it both ways.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... — Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
