Absolutely amazing communist blather, which involves everything from linking our foreign policy with a love of violence and guns to comparing gun owners to Al Qaeda. Sanctimonious and patronizing, this essay shows how little the socialist sheep of Europe truly understand freedom.

The police in the UK are apparently so afraid of armed citizens, that they shut down the police station when a man walked in carrying firearms he wanted to give away!

Studies show about 1 percent of gun stores sell the weapons traced to 57 percent of gun crimes."

"Words like 'shock,' 'anger' and 'fear' now are tossed around by students newly concerned about personal security. A task force has been formed to consider security improvements, and the school spread a warning after the attack to other area colleges."

"At the college Monday, students applauded the way college officials have addressed the assault and assuaged their fears. Still, there's a new feeling on campus." ...

"For me, it comes down to this: Why should the government be able to tell me that I'm 'safe enough'? Shouldn't that decision be mine, and not the government's? Certainly, there ought to be -- and in almost all of the 34 (not 23) states that have 'shall issue' carry permits, there are -- objective criteria for safety and training which must be made before a concealed-carry permit is issued."

"As a gun owner, hunter and sportsman, I'm concerned about a common misperception that gun owners are a monolithic body who all march to the tune of the National Rifle Association."

"Most of us do not fear reasonable regulation. We support background checks, maintenance of good records, manufacturing safety standards, and measures that make guns inaccessible to children."

-------
In other words, he's a gun-grabber, who tries to gain a bit of legitimacy with the "I'm reasonable, and I own guns" routine. This is the kind of gun owner who will wonder what happened when they take his $5000 Purdy and melt it.

"Yes I am an Angry American. I'm a Constitutionalist, one who believes in the visions of the Founding Fathers, in liberty, in the FULL Bill of Rights, and all these are being trashed. So just because I can go buy some red flame grapes from whatever country is sending them to us these days (probably Chile) there's nothing in America about which I can feel righteously angry? Friend, you are what is wrong with this country if that's your line of thinking..."

FULL TEXT BELOW

Thanks for the anxiety

Let us hope the check that Sen. Pat Pariseau, R-Farmington, and the Minnesota Republican Party received from the National Rifle Association comforts them ("Conceal carry becomes law," April 29).

I know every time I board a Metro Transit bus, I will be worried about how many people are packing guns.

Greg Shockey, Minneapolis.

-------
KABA note: Luckily for you, Greg, the criminals will be worried about the same thing.

Less and more

Fewer teachers, fewer police officers, fewer firefighters, fewer roadside rest stops, fewer shelter beds, fewer Head Start kids, fewer bus trips, fewer library hours, fewer Meals on Wheels, fewer summer school kids, fewer state park hours. More guns.

Congratulations, Minnesota!

David L. Strand, St. Paul.

-------
Typical socialist tripe. The people just aren't reliant on the state enough anymore.

"The U.S. constitution has been twisted to justify the automatic birth citizenship of children of illegal aliens. The Mexican constitution (Capitulo II, Articulo 30) actually stipulates that any baby born in Mexican territory, regardless of parentage, is Mexican. But apparently they’ve found a way around that—refusing to issue birth certificates if one or both parents is not in the country legally! How very clever!"

"Lynne Stewart, a New York human-rights lawyer with a taste for radical politics, is accustomed to representing unpopular clients.
She never dreamed it would become illegal."

"Stewart was in Seattle on Monday as part of a national campaign to drum up support—not for a client, but for her own case. Stewart was a member of the court-appointed defense team for Sheikh Omar Abdel Rahman, who is serving a life sentence in connection with the first World Trade Center bombing in 1993. After his conviction, Stewart continued as one of the lawyers representing Abdel Rahman. The Seattle visit came just over a year after her arrest April 8, 2002, when she was taken from her home without warning. Federal agents combed through her office, seizing files on all of her cases, and Attorney General John Ashcroft proudly announced that Stewart had been charged in a four-count criminal indictment with aiding and abetting a terrorist organization—solely for her work in representing Abdel Rahman."

"While most new laws emanating from Washington, D.C., these days tend to take freedoms away from us, there is one bill currently in the U.S. House of Representatives that deserves the full support of every American. The bill is numbered H.R. 990 and is titled the 'Secure Access to Firearms Enhancement (SAFE) Act of 2003.' The bill's chief sponsor is John Hostettler (R-8th/IN)."

"What the bill does is reciprocate state Carry Concealed Weapons (CCW) permits in much the same way that driver's licenses are reciprocated state to state. In other words, a person who has a Concealed Carry permit in one state would be legally allowed to carry his concealed weapon in other states."
