"The Richmond branch of the NAACP is calling on the FBI to investigate the outcome of the case against Richmond Police officer David Melvin."

"Melvin's case ended in a mistrial because the defense felt a juror's contact with police tainted deliberations. The NAACP thinks Richmond Police knew what they were doing when they made contact with the foreperson of the jury. They find it hard to believe such a coincidence could occur the day before a verdict was to be handed down."

Last Paragraph: "And finally, it is worth remembering that today we have an anti-government government, a President who the NRA called its candidate, and an Attorney General who prizes the Second Amendment. What we have gotten from this Administration, thus far, speaks not well of the defense from tyranny. Individual rights are being rolled back at a rapid pace, and much of what was once open is now secret. Guns, however, remain unfettered, which suggests that they benefit from, rather than protect against, the destruction of other liberties. This does not need to be the case, and gun control is far from an open-and-shut issue. But for now, those who believe in gun rights are burdened by their own champions, who invoke the Constitution even as they busily carve it up."

"In addition to the Second Amendment, the suit also raises additional constitutional issues in regard to this gun ban. "The police want to audit all weapons at educational institutions as part of a campaign to reduce the number of firearms in the hands of private citizens," said Asmal.

The rifles used at 260 schools for target-shooting instruction would be transferred to the defense department.

Asmal said that students who want more advanced training could join professional shooting clubs. He noted that China and India, which use air guns for target shooting instruction in schools, have made great strides in the sport in the Olympics.

People who hold a gun or ammunition legally are also being given the opportunity to surrender it. The amnesty includes air guns and replica firearms.

Commander Alan Brown, head of the Serious and Organised Crime Command, said: "We welcome anything that reduces the number of weapons on the streets. Taking guns off our streets will save lives and cut crime. Projectiles from arms are clocked in "feet per second," not miles per hour. For example, the Daisy Model 622X BB pistol clocks at 400fps -- as is true of all of their pistols, other than the one they offer with lower velocity.

To convert MPH to FPS, or vice versa, there's a handy chart available here. Multiply FPS by .682 to get MPH. Multiply MPH by 1.467 to get FPS.

The reporter is accurate on MPH, but is either ignorant of firearms or simply trying to cause fear.

Carmel, Indiana -- A Carmel High School student received a lesson in law enforcement after school officials say he took a gun to school.

Carmel Police arrested the 16 year-old Tuesday at the High School. He was held in jail on a $10,000 bond. The teen faces a preliminary charge of possession of a firearm without a permit and possession of marijuana.

Police say the 25-caliber semi-automatic handgun was not loaded and the student was not carrying bullets.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
False is the idea of utility that sacrifices a thousand real advantages for one imaginary or trifling inconvenience; that would take fire from men because it burns, and water because one may drown in it; that has no remedy for evils except destruction. The laws that forbid the carrying of arms are laws of such a nature. They disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crime. — Cesare Beccaria, quoted by Thomas Jefferson
