"Donald E.J. Kilmer of San Jose, the plaintiffs' attorney, said Monday he had not yet consulted his clients on whether to pursue their First Amendment claim in the trial court, or to ask the U.S. Supreme Court to review their Second Amendment claim." ...

"The mothers of two teenagers who were gunned-down east of Albuquerque nearly five hears ago are joining a lawsuit against the United States Attorney General in an attempt to close an assault weapon loophole."

"Matthew Hunt and Kevin Shirley, both 17, and Luis Garcia, 16, were all shot numerous times with an AK-47 assault rifle on May 29, 1999, on a road in the East Mountain of Sandia Knolls."

"No suspects have ever been identified in the killings." ...

Then how do we know it was an AK-47 that was used? Is there video footage of the shooting? Oh, wait, there's more information in the article:

"The lawsuit, organized by the Brady Center"

Nevermind. That explains it. Make it up as you go.

"The Ninth Circuit was asked for an en banc rehearing of the Nordyke case, which challenged a county ban on guns on county property on Second Amendment grounds. While we lost the battle to have the case reheard, you can read the arguments of those who supported rehearing here--and wow! How the world has changed in the last thirty years! Federal judges making the argument that the Second Amendment protects an individual right to keep and bear arms--and not to go hunting, or even for individual self-defense--but to keep the government afraid of the people. ..."

"The collective rights view is certainly the dominant view in the court of appeals -- only the Fifth Circuit has endorsed the individual rights view. Still, is enheartening to see quite a few circuit judges in various circuits reaffirming that view; it makes the odds a little better (though still impossible to calculate) should the Supreme Court get the issue in the next few years, likely as to the challenges to the D.C. gun ban. In close cases, Justices are indeed influenced by what they see as the mainstream of judicial opinion. If it had looked like all judges except two on the Fifth Circuit endorsed the collective rights view, some of the Justices would have probably taken the individual rights view less seriously. But if many respected dissenting judges, both liberal and conservative, in various circuits endorse the individual rights view, at least some Justices are more likely to be open to it, even if the circuit bottom-line scorecard still reads 8-1 or something along those lines. ..."

Toby Hoover looks into that same future and sees a state where there are more shootings, and citizens are taught to fear one another.

" 'I try not to walk on campus at night,' she said."

"Emily Blackburn, a freshman from Lincolnton who lives in Russell Hall, said many areas around campus are not well lit."

" 'It's already dark and you've got the lights going off,' she said. '(University officials) should put up more lights.' "

-------
From the University of Georgia website:

"Under Georgia Code Section 16-11-127.1(b), weapons are not allowed on the University of Georgia Campus. Weapons include, but are not limited to, any gun, shotgun or rifle, certain knives including any knife having a blade more than 2 inches in length or any discs having at least two points or pointed blades (throwing stars), any flailing instruments, straight edge razor, bludgeon type weapon, stun gun or taser. This law does not prohibit the possession by non-students of any device that is legal to possess, provided it is kept in a locked compartment of a motor vehicle, or a locked container or locked firearms rack within a motor vehicle. The possession of a valid firearms permit, or a valid license to carry a concealed weapon, does not exempt a person from the provisions of this law. Students are not permitted to possess anything what would be considered a weapon under this statute on school property."

The students will continue being scared, disarmed and vulnerable. And lighting will not solve the problem.

"For instance, federal and state laws require that domestic abusers who own firearms must surrender them. These laws apply not only to those who have been convicted of assaulting their partners, but also to those who have been served with temporary restraining orders."

"The problem is, there is no uniform procedure in place in San Diego to ensure that these sensible laws are enforced. That's particularly frustrating for Deputy District Attorney Patrick McGrath, who co-chairs the review team and has eight years of experience working domestic violence cases. 'A guy who broke his wife's nose,' he notes, 'is not a good candidate to own a gun.' McGrath's understatement is underscored by the fact that, between 1997 and 2003, firearms accounted for 44 percent of the county's 61 domestic violence-related fatalities."

"For most Rwandans, the memory of genocide, rapes and murders are still fresh some 10 years after more than 500,000 people were hacked, shot and clubbed to death in a 100-day killing spree in this tiny central African country."

"If the survivor wishes to prosecute the offender, a rape kit can be used to collect evidence to be given to police." ...

How about a prevention kit from Glock, Taurus, Sig, H&K, Para Ordnance, etc.? Rather than a pack of condoms and an evidence collection kit, how about practice targets in the shape of a rapist coming at you with a knife? Sarah Brady's Klan members can collect the evidence after their own rapes if they want to. Self-determinate women will leave the evidence on the ground for the police to haul away.
