When it comes to defending our children, there are the states that should, the states that can, and the states that do.

I’ve posted a similar map before. I suspect I’ll have to update it again. The map keeps changing, and fortunately the change is for the better. In this case, change doesn’t come easily. Some states have to work around existing laws to put trained and armed staff in place to protect our children.

Law-abiding young adults living in Vermont will soon find it much more difficult to defend themselves and their families after state lawmakers passed a bill prohibiting the sale of any firearm to individuals under 21, unless he or she completes a nearly 15-hour hunter-safety course with little practical bearing on personal self-defense.

The bill further prohibits any person from possessing shotgun and rifle magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds, or handgun magazines capable of holding more than 15 rounds—even though many commonly used firearms come with standard-issue magazines exceeding those limits.

A 78-year-old British retiree who stabbed a burglar to death in his home will not face criminal charges, London police said Friday.

Richard Osborn-Brooks was arrested on suspicion of murder after an altercation at his London home early Wednesday.

Police say the retiree said he had found two men inside the house, and struggled with one, who was stabbed in the upper body. The suspected burglar was found collapsed in a road nearby and died later in a hospital.

A federal court ruled on Friday that AR-15 rifles, the high-powered rifle used in the Parkland mass shooting, as well as similar military-style rifles and high-capacity magazines are not protected under the Second Amendment.

"AR-15s and [large capacity magazines] are most useful in military service, they are beyond the scope of the Second Amendment [...] and may be banned," wrote Massachusetts District Court Judge William Young. The case was first brought in January 2017 by several gun owners, the nonprofit group Gun Owners' Action League, and gun stores On Target Training and Overwatch Outpost.

A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging Massachusetts' ban on assault weapons and large-capacity magazines, saying in a ruling released Friday that the weapons fall beyond the reach of the Second Amendment.

U.S. District Judge William Young said assault weapons are military firearms and aren't protected by the constitutional right to "bear arms." Regulation of the weapons is a matter of policy, not for the courts, he said.

I think the NRA can help, but they must restrict and designate an authorized list of weapons that fit the following three classes (1) ones for hunting (2) ones for target practice, and (3) ones for self defense. To me there is no need for assault rifle, because for home defense a shotgun will suffice. It is easier to use and is a weapon that can scare the intruder away.

If these acts of violence strike you as the goings-on in Chicago or Baltimore, you’d be wrong. These incidents occurred under the “gold standard” of gun control in London, England.

The killings are part of a surge in firearm and knife crime in the England and Wales. The increase in London homicides has been so profound that for the first time in recorded history the UK capitol’s murder rate has surpassed New York City’s.

According to New York Police Department data gathered by The Sunday Times, the law enforcement agency initiated 14 murder investigations in February and 21 murders investigations in March. London’s Metropolitan Police reported 15 murder investigations for February and 22 for March.

Buried in the statistics resulting from a recent bit of snooping on the economic impact of the gun industry on individual states is an interesting revelation of the Top Five and the Bottom Five states in terms of gun ownership.

Are you ready? If you live in Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, West Virginia and Wyoming, if you’re not heeled, you are kind of an oddity, it would appear. If you live in New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island or Delaware and you own one or more firearms, you just don’t fit in, either.

Highly regarded as one of the most contested amendments, the shooting in Parkland, Florida — 227 years and 61 days after its ratification — once again called into question if it should be amended or even remain at all.

Independent Journal Review spoke with four gun owners about their thoughts on common arguments in the gun control debate and proposed measures to prevent further gun violence.

Relying on certain stated or implied limitations on the weapons to which the Second Amendment applied in Justice Antonin Scalia's opinion in D.C. v. Heller (2008), U.S. District Court Judge William G. Young this week granted summary judgment to Massachusetts in a lawsuit challenging a 1998 state law that emulated the federal government's 1994 ban on certain weapons it characterized as "assault weapons." The federal ban expired in 2004 but the Massachusetts version remained in effect.

Not everyone at Stoneman Douglas agrees with them, though. Kyle Kashuv, who also survived the shooting, opposes gun control and has become a pro–Second Amendment advocate since the shooting. Kashuv recently met with conservative Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas, who told him that the Second Amendment is safe and “won’t be touched.” The two also spoke about some of the cases that Thomas has dissented on.

A rightwing Christian pastor and radio show host said that the Bible requires Christians to own semi-automatic rifles, and that Christians who don’t have one have “denied the Christian faith” and are “worse than a heathen.”

Pastor Chuck Baldwin, who hosts the radio show Chuck Baldwin Live and writes a syndicated column, appeared on Sheila Zilinsky’s podcast to discuss guns.

Baldwin read from the First Epistle to Timothy to support his point. He quoted 1 Timothy 5:8, which is a sentence in the middle of a longer section about how Christians are supposed to treat widows and elders:

If you had to make a list of the top 10 people whose opinions on Martin Luther King Jr. you could have gone the rest of your life without hearing, I’m willing to bet that “NRA spokesman” might have made that list.

And for a good portion of your life, your wish would have been fulfilled.

But this is 2018, a time when the inexplicable is in full bloom, and so we have it that Dana Loesch, a professional bullshitter for the National Rifle Association, an organization that has fought vehemently to put guns in the hands of more Americans, decided to talk about how much MLK inspires her.

Earlier this week the Deerfield, Illinois City Council passed an ordinance banning a number of semi-automatic rifles, handguns and "high-capacity" magazines. In their words, it's an "assault weapons" ban and includes broad definitions.

There is no grandfather clause and Deerfield residents have until June 13 to turn in their guns for destruction. If they don't, they'll be fined $1000 per day. Still no word on whether police will go door-to-door in a attempt to search private homes and confiscate weapons.

Those who believe that no one wants to take away all guns or the Second Amendment are sadly mistaken or hiding their agenda.

The U.S. government argued in federal court (U.S. v. Emerson, 2001) that there is absolutely no right of an individual to own firearms. More recently, John Paul Stevens, the 97-year-old retired Supreme Court justice, called for the repeal of the Second Amendment and is encouraging anti-gun protesters to do the same.

At the anti-gun rallies in March there were many signs sayings, “I wish Obama had taken your guns,” “Ban all guns,” “Yes, in fact, I am here to take your guns.”

Springfield Armory’s 1911s are no strangers to the competitive-shooting circuit. Pistols from the company’s custom shop have helped well-known professional shooters like Rob Leatham accumulate an impressive number of accolades and championship titles over the years. Thankfully, Springfield Armory continues to offer lower-priced alternatives for beginners and budget-minded shooters in search of inexpensive, entry-level 1911s that are match-ready from the box, such as this Springfield Armory Range Officer 1911 featuring a brushed stainless-steel finish.

Gun-rights advocates on Thursday sued an Illinois village over its new ban on military-style semiautomatic “assault” rifles and high capacity ammunition magazines, saying the ordinance not only stops purchases but could lead to confiscations.

The ban passed by the Deerfield Village Board earlier this week “flies in the face of state law,” said Alan M. Gottlieb, founder of the Second Amendment Foundation, which sued along with the Illinois State Rifle Association and a Deerfield resident.

Robinson made headlines this week when a video of him at a city council meeting went viral after he defended the Second Amendment and criticized politicians who want to take away guns from law-abiding citizens.

Robinson explained that he thought he had to attend the meeting to let politicians know that he would not “sit idly” while they tried to take away his rights.
