"A candidate for Federal public office in New York State yesterday suggested that there is no link between reckless gun dealers and crime guns on the streets of New York. His remarks, Jim Brady said this morning, 'show a level of cluelessness that is remarkable given his desire to serve in an important public position.'"

"'John Spencer must have bumped his head,' said Brady, the former press secretary to President Ronald Reagan who was wounded in the assassination attempt on the President 25 years ago last week. 'The man should think before he speaks. He's not running for dog catcher -- he wants to be a United States Senator.'" ...

"The recent tragedy on Seattle's Capitol Hill may never be adequately explained, but it has not taken long for proponents of increasingly erosive gun-control schemes to exploit the crime."

Even before the bodies had been removed from the crime scene, Washington CeaseFire — an extremist group in our view, whose ghoulishly quick reaction was tantamount to dancing in the blood of Kyle Huff's victims — issued a press release calling for tougher gun laws." ...

"Organizers of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda used a 'civilian self-defense system' to mobilize participants in the campaign to exterminate the Tutsi minority, Human Rights Watch said in a briefing paper released today."

"The 17-page paper, 'The Rwandan Genocide: How It Was Prepared,' draws on previously unpublished documents to lay out the way the extermination system was planned in the months before the genocide was launched, 12 years ago this week."

"'Genocidal violence did not just break out as a result of fear or hatred of the Tutsi minority,' said Alison Des Forges, senior adviser to the Africa division at Human Rights Watch. 'It was launched by military, administrative, and political authorities using the machinery of the state.'" [emphasis added] ...

"Passage of a concealed carry statute in Nebraska was a good first step toward insuring the safety of Cornhusker State citizens, but the new law has a gaping loophole that apparently allows cities like Omaha to continue denying their residents the right of personal protection."

"The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms (CCRKBA) is encouraging residents of Omaha, Lincoln and other communities to start contacting their city councils, demanding that they reject any attempt to prohibit concealed carry as the City of Omaha is apparently planning to do, based on a 70-year- old ordinance." ...
