A letter to the editor dated March 11, 2023, asserted that 2A Sanctuary would encourage our law officers to refuse to enforce any laws that some persons might find objectionable specifically gun safety laws.

All elected officials take an oath to uphold the highest law of the land, the U.S. Constitution. The language and intent of the 2nd Amendment is clear. A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.

Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele has decided not to bring charges against the individual that took part in a deadly shooting that happened in March at the grave of a man who was killed by gun violence ten years prior.

In a statement released on Friday, Steele said that an investigation into the shooting that occurred on March 18 at Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler, found that Daniel Hawkins, 29, of Philadelphia, was shot and killed in self-defense.

The company is called Byrna, a national group that's been around for about three years. They just opened their first retail store, in Las Vegas. They say many of their customers are gun owners who simply want another option for home defense. Deedee Macsurak, a customer, says it started with a noise inside her home. "It was a pop. It sounded like glass breaking," said Macsurak.

A Mississippi woman has been released from custody after authorities said they believe she acted in self-defense when she shot her alleged attacker Sunday.

The incident occurred at about 1:36 a.m. outside a club in the area around Coila, according to a report citing Carroll County Sheriff Clint Walker.

Michelle Hearn and a friend had left the club after Hearn and a man, identified by police as 31-year-old Lamarcus Woodson, had a dispute inside the club.

Glendale detectives are investigating after a man was shot multiple times outside a smoke shop late Thursday night.

The shooting was reported on April 6 at 11:45 p.m. at a strip mall near 65th Avenue and Glendale.

The owner of Smoke Casa, Ouday Muslet, says his store was just about to close when an armed man came inside and wrestled his employee to the ground.

The employee, who also had a gun in his waistband, shot the man in the leg. Muslet said the man responded by pointing a gun at the clerk's head.

A Travis County jury found Army Sgt. Daniel Perry, 33, guilty of murder on Friday, almost three years after he shot and killed Austin protester Garrett Foster.

In 2021 Perry was indicted for murder, aggravated assault and deadly conduct charges for shooting Foster during a July 2020 protest in downtown Austin. The jury also found Perry not guilty of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after deliberating for 17 hours Thursday and Friday following an eight-day trial.

Last night, the Legislature adjourned sine die from its 2023 session. This session, NRA worked with pro-gun lawmakers to pass three bills, for the benefit of law-abiding gun owners, protecting self-defense options and addressing emerging threats from the financial sector. Governor Brad Little signed these three bills into law this week.

House Bill 295 prohibits payment processors from requiring the use of a firearms-specific MCC to distinguish purchases at a firearms retailer from a general merchandise retailer or a sporting goods retailer, and also prohibits the misuse of payment card processing systems to surveil, report, or disclose these legal transactions.

President Joe Bidens administration on Friday asked the U.S. Supreme Court to hear its appeal of a lower court ruling against a federal ban on bump stock devices that enable semiautomatic weapons to fire like machine guns.

The administration is defending the ban, imposed under former President Donald Trump, against a challenge by Michael Cargill, a gun shop owner and gun rights advocate from Austin, Texas. The ban was a rare firearms control measure in the United States prompted by a 2017 mass shooting in Las Vegas.

In the footage, Cook approaches Colie in the malls food court area, gets close to him and follows Colie for approximately 60 to 90 seconds, Biberaj said.

Biberaj said Colie told Cook to stop several times and tried to walk away, then shot Cook in the abdomen. Colie was charged with aggravated malicious wounding, using a firearm while committing a felony and discharging a firearm in a building. He remains in jail after a judge denied bond, court records show.

Two local communities are among the safest places in the state. Rupert and Jerome make the top ten. This comes from a website known as safewise.com. A couple of college towns also made the list, even one now known for a terrible quadruple homicide.

Both violent and property crimes are well below the national average.

People in Idaho are more concerned about package theft than any other form of crime! Gun violence is of the least concern. The lowest rate in the nation. Nearly half of Idahoans claim theyre armed. Of those, concealed carry firearms finish first, ahead of knives used for self-defense. Gun violence is the lowest in the nation.

Theyre going to take my AR-15.

Not today. Not next week. Probably not even next year.

But eventually its going to happen. Or, at the very least, they will stop me and others from buying another one.

And when that happens, I wont blame just my gun-controlling political enemies.

Instead, I also will blame allies in the gun-rights community who will make it possible by laying the groundwork for the George Floyd-like tipping point that inevitably will come. Just as Floyds death inexplicably catalyzed a movement in a way no prior videotaped police murders had done, a large-scale killing with a semi-automatic rifle will do the same for the gun-ban movement.

Im not a character worthy of a John Wick movie, but its tough to avoid the tacticool vibes when you pull out a double-tube-fed 12-gauge bullpup KelTec KSG, which has spent a fair amount of time on the silver screen with the legendary gunslinger. Theres a lot to like about this compact shotgun that offers a 14+1 capacity.

Thank you for printing Mark Lewis column about gun violence in the United States. The statistics he cites are horrifying. He suggests rewriting the Second Amendment, and Im glad to see Im not the only one wanting to put that idea out there. Whenever Ive suggested it in conversations, Ive gotten a bunch of naysaying: That will never happen.

But this has gotten so stupid, so scary, so out of control that it has to happen. The Second Amendment should outline a right to keep and bear the current version of the arms that were available to the citizens at the time the amendment was written (hunting rifles).

This afternoon, the Arkansas State Legislature has adjourned sine die from its 2023 legislative session. We are happy to report that all anti-gun bills were successfully defeated, while a number of pro-gun bills were passed.

The United States has a long and complex history with guns dating all the way back to colonial times. There is continuous debate surrounding the rights to gun ownership and what regulations should or should not be implemented. Ratified in 1791, The Second Amendment to the United States Constitution, guarantees the right to keep and bear arms. While gun laws vary by state Florida has a long history of relatively relaxed gun regulations.

In a remarkable and rare occurrence, Terri Imani Turner, a survivor of domestic violence, was released from jail on Wednesday after Chief Magistrate Judge Phinea Aten ruled that the prosecution did not have probable cause to pursue the murder charges against Turner, who had been acting in self-defense.

According to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence, more than 40% of Black women have experienced intimate partner physical violence, intimate partner sexual violence and/or intimate partner stalking in their lifetimes. And more than half of Black adult female homicides are related to intimate partner violence.

House Bill 1143 denies law-abiding citizens their Second Amendment right to acquire firearms unless they present proof of completion of official, sanctioned firearms training within the past five years, which they must complete at their own expense. It also imposes an arbitrary ten-day delay on prospective gun owners taking possession of their firearms and makes this delay longer or indefinite if the state fails to complete a background check during that time. The Department of Licensing will also maintain a database (registry) of gun owners and their personal data, despite the agency having previously suffered a data breach affecting 650,000 citizens, just last year.

These are all extremely important tools for law enforcement and prosecutors to help combat crime in New Mexico, said Gov. Lujan Grisham. A court case out of Pennsylvania is calling into question whether the law requiring those in the business of selling firearms to have a federal firearms license (FFL) is constitutional, considering the new criteria set down by the U.S. Supreme Court in last years New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. Bruen case.

And despite the fact that being in the business of selling firearms has required an FFL for as long as most of us can remember, any court faithfully applying the two-prong standard as prescribed in Bruen just might not see this one the governments way.

State lawmakers attempt to define gun legislation continues to move through the Legislature.

Senate Bill 1230 passed out of the House Finance Committee on Thursday as the Legislatures encompassing concealed carry and sensitive places bill, outlining how firearms may be acquired and where they can be taken.

Dave Day, special assistant to the Attorney General, said the state Department is in strong support of the bill. Day said hundreds of hours of work among local police departments and law clerks have gone into this bill.
