Most Sweeping Gun Ban Ever Hits Congress: Clinton Ban "Re-enactment" Targets Millions More Guns!!!

FULL TEXT BELOW:

As we predicted, the anti-gunners have begun the push to further expand the Clinton gun ban of 1994. Not content with merely re-authorizing the ban, Reps. John Conyers (D-Mich.) and Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) have drafted legislation that bans millions more guns! It's a giant step closer to the goal stated by Clinton ban sponsor Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who said on CBS's 60 Minutes: "If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them, Mr. and Mrs. America, turn them all in, I would have done it." Toward that goal, Conyers/McCarthy would:

Ban every gun made to lawfully comply with the Clinton ban. The Clinton ban arbitrarily dictated the kinds of grips, stocks and attachments that new guns could have. Manufacturers complied. New guns were made to conform to the Clinton restrictions. Now prohibitionists want to ban the new guns, too.

Ban guns the Clinton legislation expressly exempted from prohibition. This includes Ruger Mini-14s, Ranch Rifles, and .30 Caliber Carbines, and entire classes of guns, including fixed magazine rifles, as well as shotguns that hold under five rounds.

Ban guns widely used for target shooting. It bans the three center-fire rifles most commonly used for marksmanship competitions: the Colt AR-15, the Springfield M1A, and the M1 "Garand."

Ban all semi-automatic shotguns: Remingtons, Winchesters, Benellis, Berettas, etc., widely used for hunting, trap, skeet, and sporting clays, by banning their receivers (main component).

Ban guns for defense. Bans any semi-automatic rifle or shotgun any U.S. Attorney General one day claims is not "sporting," even though self-defense is a fundamental right and the federal constitution, the constitutions of 44 states, and the laws of all 50 states recognize the right to use guns for defense.

Ban 68 named guns (Clinton ban named 19 guns); Ban parts used to repair or refurbish guns, including frames or receivers; Ban importation of ammunition magazines exempt under Clinton ban; Ban private sales of millions of guns, their frames and receivers, and their parts; Ban semi-automatic rifles under 30" long (useful for home defense); Ban all semi-automatic rifles that can hold more than 10 rounds.

Ban guns rarely used in crime. State and local law enforcement agency reports have always shown that guns on the Clinton and Conyers/McCarthy ban lists have never been used in more than a small percentage of violent crime. The Congressionally-mandated study of the Clinton law concluded that guns it banned "were never used in more than a fraction of all gun murders." But even if they were, are the rights and liberties of law-abiding citizens to be dictated by the acts of criminals?

Begin "backdoor" registration. Requires manufacturers of banned guns, frames, receivers, and parts to report the names of their dealers, and requires dealers to report any of those parts they have in stock. The next step is obvious-demanding the names of gun owners who buy those parts.

Please contact your U.S. Representative at (202) 224-3121 or by using the "Write Your Representatives" feature and urge them to oppose any attempt to keep alive the Clinton gun ban.

Read carefully and try to find the NRA's position on George W. Bush's support of this bill. Here's a clue: there is none. They blame Feinstein. They blame Conyers. They blame Clinton. But not a word about Bush's support for gun control. So the NRA would pull its support from the Second Amendment's best friend, Congressman Ron Paul, who wouldn't support their pet legislation on constitutional grounds, but will keep conspicuously silent on Bush's support for odious gun control laws. Hypocrisy?

"What bothers me is the nature of this objection. First, 'the fact he's carrying a firearm (in the logo) is also a concern' -- why, exactly? The Minutemen were soldiers, soldiers fighting in defense of liberty and independence. One needs guns for that sort of thing. We should celebrate those who fought on America's behalf, and we shouldn't hide the fact that to do that, they required deadly weapons."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Friday, the Associated Press quietly published a correction to a previously published story regarding the "assault weapons" ban. The original story stated that Bush supports S.1034, the bill recently introduced by Sen. Feinstein that would permanently renew the ban and place restrictions on a handful of additional firearms.

The correction states, "Bush supports renewal of a 10-year ban imposed by Congress in 1994, but he has not said how long it should be extended."

It is doubtful that the AP picked up on this subtle catch on their own. Most likely, they were contacted a member of the Bush administration with this clarification on the President's position. This could possibly be an indication that the administration is positioning itself to not support S.1034, since it does not represent an exact renewal of the existing law.

Of course, renewing the current ban is not acceptable to us, so we must continue to pressure our elected officials on this issue to ensure that even a watered down renewal bill never reaches the president's desk.

We ARE making a difference. The White House has indicated that they have received a tremendous amount of communication from gun owners on this issue. Even if Bush does not come right out with a complete public reversal of his stated support for the ban, he is still feeling the undeniable pressure from our response, and this will undoubtedly effect his actions on this issue.

GOA has a system that allows you to very easily send an e-mail to the president stating your opposition to the Feinstein semi-auto ban.

Keep up the good work, everyone!

"You see, my Constitution is one that limits the government to specified duties, none of which may interfere with the rights of the people, whether enumerated or not. What are our Rights, inherently held by birthright as a free American man or woman living in one of the states? Anything we wish to do as long as it doesn't interfere with another's Rights. As long as another is not harmed or his property damaged by our activities, no level of government has any regulatory authority, including local governments, which in fact are not constitutional governments to begin with. Check your state statutes and you will find that the power of political subdivisions - cities and counties - is zip, nadda, does not exist, over the sovereign people living within the area. Each only has the authority to regulate public properties and themselves or artificial persons (corporations and the like) created by the artificial state or federal government."

Last night "60 Minutes" interviewed Robert Ricker.

Robert Ricker a few years ago: "If someone gets a hold of a gun and they misuse it, that's the persons that should be responsible, not the industry that produced the product."

Robert Ricker now: "It's a 'hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil' strategy. A manufacturer would be hard pressed to stand up and try to say, 'Hey, my company is doing everything we can possibly think of to keep our guns from falling into the wrong hands.' "

How can anyone trust this guy to tell the truth?

"Moreover, when taken in the context of the entire sentence in which this phrase occurs, it is obvious that the authors used 'people' to refer to the collective, rather than the individual, for the statement says, 'A well-regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' I agree. Military-style weapons should be in the hands of a 'well-regulated militia' and not in the hands of every trigger-happy yahoo."

"It took less than 48 hours in Ohio before some began trying to use the tragic Case Western incident for political gain. On Sunday (before the criminal's victim was even laid to rest), anti-self-defense activists, including Cleveland 'Million' Mom March chapter president Lori O'Neill, held a press conference, at which they attempted to exploit this tragedy to prop up their opposition to reforming Ohio's ban on self-defense with a concealed firearm, and to support continued bans on 'assault' weapons."

"In times of grief, there is a tendency to react emotionally. While Ohioans For Concealed Carry wishes to avoid any appearance of impropriety, we believe the attempted exploitation by these anti-self-defense activists must not go unanswered. We believe it is important to see such an event as an opportunity to weigh the facts - not to respond hastily, and in such a way that could compound the problem."
