"For many years the United States Government could not deprive you of your rights, without due process of law and a felony conviction. However, since the passage of the Lautenberg Amendment in 1996 tens of thousands of Americans have been deprived of their right to keep and bear arms for mere misdemeanors."

"Lautenberg's logic is if you commit any violent act then you should be deprived the use of firearms. The law enacted in 1996 was retroactive, meaning it not only affected future action but past actions as well." ...

"This law has irritated me for twelve years, as it clearly is unconstitutional. Finally, the legality of this act will face the scrutiny of the United States Supreme Court." ...

"In a May 6 Times editorial, 'Concealed-carry guns have no place on college campuses,' readers were told students (faculty, staff, etc.) should not be permitted to carry defensively on a college campus because they're likely to 'make things worse.'"

"But this raises a serious question; given that the shootings at Virginia Tech, Northern Illinois, and even the smaller-scale shooting at a Louisiana technical college took place entirely at the discretion of mass murderers, how can wrenching control of the situation away from them possibly make things worse?" ...

"IN REFERENCE to Clinton Van Zandt's commentary on guns on college campuses, his commentary/analysis was fatally flawed from the start because he referred to a Harvard University study to support his argument."

"Harvard is about as anti-gun/Second Amendment as they come, and any study it would undertake on this subject is highly suspect. None of the study's analyses or conclusions can or should be trusted."

"The study referred to a random sample of college students who indicated that they take a firearm on campus. How many of these students resided in states with right-to-carry laws, and how many had licenses to legally carry a firearm? It is very likely that none of those interviewed fell into this class." ...

"Why, the shop owners have asked, should the Police Department require pawnshop owners to document for police inspection every used item the pawn shops purchase when other stores buy used items that might as easily have been stolen?"

Staff Sergeant Ron Donovan described the injured officer as an experienced member of the police force, who works out of central division. [emphasis added]
