"It's important to look to the Constitution as the basis of law in this country but it's equally important to look to The Declaration of Independence for the philosophy of the country. To that end, consider that one of the charges against King George III that Jefferson listed was, 'He has kept among us, in Times of Peace, Standing Armies, without the consent of our Legislatures.' With that in mind, now view The Third Amendment which says, 'No soldier shall, in time of peace be quartered in any house, without the consent of the owner, nor in time of war, but in a manner to be prescribed by law.' There is no other conclusion that can make sense of these paragraphs than that The Founding Fathers wanted the strength from our domestic defense to be drawn from our various militia and there to be a permanent Navy. It is reasonable to conclude that The Founding Fathers were wary of a standing army."

"Although you might not hear much about it in the mainstream media, the disarmament crowd is working as avidly as ever to render ordinary Americans defenseless against violent criminals. Considering the backlash that resulted from extensive media coverage by Rosie O'Donnell and others in years past, one might be inclined to think that today's current lack of coverage is by design. The less Americans know about their deteriorating rights, the better."

"If gun-banners are successful in their endeavors, the people who will be hit the hardest are those that the gun-banners purport to represent. Primarily, women and children. Of course, the elderly, the handicapped, and low-income persons will also be harshly affected as firearms become more expensive and increasingly harder to get."

Voting lesser of two evils won't save America

"The issue of whether someone should vote for the 'lesser of two evils' this November has become very contentious in recent months with friends and relatives clashing to the point of creating hard feelings. Sadly, most Americans don't really recognize that they are being deliberately herded into this direction to keep them in line and 'faithful' to either the Democrat or Republican parties." ...

"As both Mr. Bush and Mr. Kerry continue to promise every special interest group and PAC in the country more and more unconstitutional looting of the people's treasury, Americans have forgotten what a sitting President can and cannot do in his capacity. ..."

"No President can promise funds from the people's treasury which, incidentally, has no money and every penny promised comes from borrowing. All bills of expenditure must originate in the House of Representatives, not from the President's desk. Presidents are not supposed to create jobs, the private sector must take that lead role in a free market system. Under communism, the government creates the jobs and the slaves; free enterprise is forbidden." ...

"Millions of Americans are afraid to vote outside the two "main" parties because they fear the other evil worse than they fear the lesser strength evil. This is what it's come down to in America? The I'm too afraid brigade are wont to cave in because they no longer have the capacity to stand up to party bullies? ..."

"A series of blasts hurled debris as far as 25 miles after fire broke out last Thursday at a warehouse complex where 92,000 tons of artillery ammunition was stored."

"States United to Prevent Gun Violence, the coalition of thirty independent state-based organizations devoted to reducing gun violence, distributed a letter today to all members of Congress urging them to promptly pass legislation -- H.R.2038 in the House and S.1431 in the Senate -- to strengthen and renew the federal assault weapons ban (AWB)." ...

"John Johnson, Executive Director of Iowans for the Prevention of Gun Violence noted: 'Public opinion surveys show that nearly 80 percent of Americans, including a majority of gun owners, support a federal ban on military-style, semiautomatic assault weapons. America needs a strong and effective AWB, that bans all assault weapons, not just a few specific models.' "

"We all know that in today's America, police can break into your house in the middle of the night and terrify your half-clad family at gunpoint if they have 'reasonable grounds.' "

"But did you know 'reasonable grounds' now include having too high an electric bill or putting your garbage out too late?"

"Police in Carlsbad, Calif., will conduct an internal investigation into a March 19 police raid at a home that was invaded and searched for marijuana because of a high electricity bill, The Associated Press reports. No drugs were found."

"Officers raided the home of Dina Dagy and her family because records indicated the family used three times as much electricity as their neighbors."

"Police said the Dagy house was also targeted because a drug-sniffing dog 'responded to the home' (proving such 'hits' are about as reliable as Wonder Woman's magic lasso) and because the family put its trash out later than neighbors, 'which can indicate suspicious activity,' police said."

"This past Sunday, America's sons and daughters celebrated one of the most important people in their lives: their mothers. ..."

"Sadly, however, some of these mothers have been deprived of their offspring's adoration because of the over-abundance of guns in our country. Every day, around 8 children under the age of 19 are killed in gun related homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings. The approximately 192 million guns in the U.S. represent the second leading cause of death for our young people."

"Ten years ago, President Clinton successfully persuaded Congress to ban AK-47's, Tec-9's and other deadly assault weapons. Unfortunately, in order to pass such a controversial measure, the bill included a sunset provision that made the law expire ten years after its enactment. In the time since the Assault Weapon Ban's enactment, violent crime has decreased, the use of assault weapons in crimes has dropped significantly and people are safer because this law has been in effect."

-------
Overall crime has decreased during these ten years. How in the world can Moran attribute said decrease to this stupid ban?

Additionally, is he really trying to tie in the "8 deaths a day" to firearms that are already banned and to simple cosmetic features on firearms that just happen to frighten him and his ilk?

A missing police assault rifle is back in the hands of authorities in southern Indiana.

Vincennes City Police say they now have the loaded assault rifle back in their hands.

The weapon came up missing earlier this week. Police say an officer took the gun out of the trunk of his cruiser after arresting a suspect on a bicycle and putting the bike in the trunk.

The officer then drove off, leaving the weapon behind.

A search of the area failed to turn up the gun, prompting an investigation. Vincennes Police say they have made no arrests, but charges are pending against the person who picked up the weapon.

"Just what kind of advice should we imagine these businesses are receiving in ONeill's sales pitch?"

"Looking at a few of O'Neill's past claims may provide some idea:

"On May 21, 2003, Ms. O'Neill testified before the Ohio Senate Committee on Criminal Justice that businesses would be found in violation of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) rules if they allow license-holders on their property. OSHA itself says that there is NO OSHA concern. ..."

"Other questionable quotes:

..."Companies in virtually every industry will be adversely affected if a concealed carry weapons bill passes in Ohio."

"If...CCW passes in Ohio, it will give a whole new definition to the term 'hostile environment.'"

"Now, Ohio employers have an additional burden to deal with - the prospect of employees and customers with concealed gun permits bringing their guns into the workplace."

He said last year the department recorded 1,398 illegal immigrants in the State and in the first four months of this year, 400 had been recorded.

"Statewide there were 607 gun deaths in Maryland, the equivalent of fifty deaths per month, with 363 of those deaths ruled as homicides, 220 as suicides and nine categorized as legal intervention, according to the latest 2001 statistics used for the report. The new statistics show a grim reality in American life, where over 2,500 are killed a month by guns nationwide, which equals 82 people killed a day. More sobering, eight children are killed every day in the United States by gun violence."

-------
The problem with advocacy journalism is that it always turns out to be manipulated. Children are generally defined as individuals 14 years old and younger. According to the CDC, 414 actual children died by gunfire in 2001. That's a little more than one per day. The gun banners count 19-year-olds - LEGAL ADULTS as children to get this figure. And considering that age 15-19 is a prime involvement period for criminal gangs, the number is disingenuous at best, and an outright, intentional manipulation at worst.

"A kindergarten teacher is recovering after she was attacked outside an exclusive private school in Chicago's Gold Coast neighborhood, officials said."

"'It's very shocking. You always have to be vigilant, because these kinds of things can happen even in a safe neighborhood,' said Evelyne Girardet, spokeswoman for the Latin School of Chicago, 59 W. North Blvd."

"The 56-year-old victim was accosted about 6 a.m. as she was walking across the street to Latin School's Lower School building, Girardet said. A car pulled up, and a man got out and grabbed the woman's purse."

"The assailant stabbed the teacher in her lower right side with a small knife, and then got back into the vehicle and fled with her purse, police said." ...

-------
What say you, Mr. Daley? As you undoubtedly walk around with armed guards, how do you feel about the people whom you are supposed to serve being forcibly disarmed and turned into vulnerable victims for thugs?

The gang responsible for the machete attack on a 16-year-old rival gang member in Northern Virginia is here in Richmond, one of two national Hispanic gangs that police say have been spotted in the city, mainly on the South Side.

By the way, there's a local gang active in the same neighborhood AS the South Side's Second Precinct police station.

Even knowing this, Chief Parker's priority is to ask noncriminals to turn in THEIR guns.

-------
"Richmond also has 10 homegrown gangs, Police Chief Andre Parker said."

"Until yesterday, Parker had hesitated to provide the number of gangs in the city. He would not name any of the local factions."

"Members of MS-13 in Fairfax used a machete early Monday morning to sever the hands of a member of rival gang South Side Locos."
