Smith & Wesson's 1911

"Colt Firearms made the gun since 1911, along with a host of other government contractors in both the WWI and WWII eras. When the patents ran out, other makers began to produce the pistol since the demand for it remained steady. Now at least a dozen companies make one version or another of the Government Model. The two biggest and most aggressive manufacturers are Springfield Armory and Kimber. Wilson Combat and Les Baer offer guns beyond the entry level, and Colt still makes as good a 1911 as anyone else. Para-Ordnance got on the map with a high-quality, high-capacity 1911 lookalike (and stays there with its new LDA system). Although the 1911's basic design is arguably dated in a world of high-capacity, DA/SA and DAO pistols in smaller calibers, many shooters prefer the straightforward single-action system of the 1911."

"The Ohio State Highway Patrol has, for several years, opposed numerous bills introduced in the General Assembly to allow private citizens to carry concealed firearms." ...

"The facts show that the patrol’s fear is unfounded. Forty-three states issue licenses to private citizens to carry concealed firearms. Some 3.5 million such licenses are in force. To date, no peace officer in any state has ever been assaulted during a traffic stop by any licensee using a legally carried concealed firearm."

"Lots of folks in these parts possess permits to carry concealed handguns. Some of us carry them on our person, some carry one in their purse, and others have one in the glove compartment of their vehicle. How those of us who exercise our Second Amendment rights interact with law enforcement is a matter of vital importance. Let me explain."

"WE MUST TELL SENATORS THE OTHER SIDE OF THE STORY!"

• Senators need to hear from people who are tired of walking around defenseless attacks by rapists or robbers.

• Senators need to hear from parents who are tired of worrying that their daughters will be victimized on their way too and from campus.

• Senators need to hear from people who are forced to live in fear because, deep down, they know that restraining orders do NOT work to restrain the violent.

• Senators need to hear from business-owners whose businesses are at risk due to unchecked violence.

• Senators need to hear from all those who wish they could protect themselves, but can't afford the costs and potential character assassination that would accompany arrest, detainment and trial just to prove an affirmative defense.

• Senators need to hear from professors, school teachers and day-care owners who don't want to read one more story about students being terrorized because no one could defend them.

• Senators need to hear from people who are tired of seeing the defenseless law-abiding suffer at the hands of criminals in Ohio, while citizens in 46 other states are exercising some form of self-defense with a concealed firearm.

Two South Bend boys are being held in the St. Joseph County Juvenile Center after allegedly trying to rob an ice cream truck driver at gunpoint.

The boys are 12 and 13 years old. Police say they pointed a gun at the ice cream truck driver Tuesday. The driver wasn't hurt. The boys were found inside a nearby home with the loaded gun. One boy said he got the gun from his mother's house.

St. Joseph County Prosecutor Mike Dvorak says the mother of one of the boys was charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after she became upset when police arrested her son.

"The 1997 handgun ban, the extermination of Britain's pitiful minority of handgun target shooters, did not directly increase crime."

"Rather, the handgun confiscation of 1997 was the continuation of a trend that began in the 1950s that resulted in the destruction of a lawful self-defence culture and the suppression of every form of non-government use of force against criminals. As a result, criminal violence and a criminal gun culture are 50 times more prevalent than they were in the early 20th century, when there were no anti-gun laws, and no laws against the use of reasonable force against violent criminals."

"While a good portion of the near future between the Vikings and the Minnesota State Legislature is expected to be an effort to work together to find a solution to the Vikings stadium problems, the team and legislators find themselves in stark contrast when it comes to a recent legislative ruling."

"In a decision that baffled many Minnesotans, the Legislature approved a conceal and carry law that will allow almost anyone without a felony conviction to take a short safety class and be allowed to carry a handgun anywhere but government buildings."

"This is being viewed very seriously by team officials, since the Metrodome is not a government facility and doesn't currently fall under this list of exempted sites. VU has been told that the Vikings have been joined by officials for the Twins and University of Minnesota Gophers in their opposition to potentially having fans armed during games."

"Law professors Robert Cottrel and Raymond Diamond suggest that the desire to control blacks was the principal, or at least a significant, reason for the Southern gun control laws in the years preceding the Civil War. While that may explain the laws that licensed blacks to carry or own guns or prohibited them from carrying or owning arms, it does not explain why the Southern states took the additional step of restricting whites from carrying arms concealed. The answer, according to Cramer, may lie in the abolition movement…."

"In the South, where slaveholders were overwhelmingly in control, laws to protect attacking mobs from the unfair advantage of abolitionists carrying concealed weapons would not be surprising…. In Northern states, where slaveholders had little direct influence on state governments, the need to keep abolitionists in fear might have been less obvious…."

"Rosenthal helps lead the largest non-political organization in the country dedicated to ending gun violence against children. PAX endorses the ASK concept, which encourages parents to ask their neighbors if there's a gun in the home where their children play or visit."

"According to PAX literature, 40 percent of American homes with children have a gun; almost half of these weapons are left either unlocked, loaded, or both."

Therefore, these people want you to ask paranoid, intrusive questions and snoop into others' live. Care to wager a guess how many homes have baseball bats, household toxins and sharp knives. Does PAX want you to snoop around in your children's friends' home pantries for those dangerous implements as well?

"The Republican Party, even under George W. Bush's confidence, character and vision, expanded failed programs like the Department of Education's Title I, expanded Clinton's "volunteer" AmeriCorps, passed protectionist legislation for steel and lumber, passed our nation's largest farm subsidy bill, used taxpayer money for faith-based initiatives, and increased the budget beyond that which is necessary for the war on terror and the wars in Afghanistan and in Iraq. On the other hand, most Libertarians opposed the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, a position I find increasingly naive and simplistic in a world of mobile biological labs and radiological bombs capable of being carried in suitcases by our nation's enemies."

"Sept. 11, 2001, reminds us that self-defense remains job No. 1, and that enemies who hate America cannot simply be sat down and persuaded that non-imperialistic Americans seek only to live in harmony and peace. President George W. Bush deserves applause for the tremendous job in moving public opinion to support not only the war against terrorism, but the military strike against Iraq."
