"Four years ago this month, FIRE become embroiled in a battle that would end in a decisive victory for free speech in the courts."

"The controversy first began in March 2008, when Tarrant County College (TCC) student Brett Poulos attempted to organize an 'Empty Holster Protest.' In conjunction with other protests spearheaded by [SCCC] across the country, TCC students would peacefully attend class and perform other daily tasks while wearing empty holsters to signify opposition to state laws and school policies denying concealed handgun license holders the same rights on college campuses that they are granted in most other places."

"When Poulos informed the school of the event, TCC officials granted the request in a strange way. ..." ...

Unfortunately for Josh, debunking the panty-soiling hysteria of antis is pretty much what we do . . ." ...

"According to gun control advocates, gun rights advocates are paranoid. Listen up gun clingers! We don’t want to disarm anyone—except for the people we want to disarm. Who need disarming ... Pay no attention to the Hurricane Katrina confiscation behind that curtain. Just use your common sense (i.e. we got this). Yes, well, no. Not only do we have a perfectly clear Supreme Court-incorporated Second Amendment (trumps local and state law) that protects us against ANY infringement on the right to keep and bear arms (in theory), we also have dozens of real-world, right-now examples of what happens to a country suffering from gun control gone wild. ... "The Second Amendment was drafted and adopted because the citizenry was once oppressed by a government removed from them. The government believed the people should be placed secondary to the incumbent monarch's needs and wishes. In addition to the philosophical distance between the ruler and the ruled, there was a physical distance delaying the protest to legislators."

"There are currently no international laws or treaties regulating the international sale of conventional weapons. You read that right. There is more international oversight of the sale of bananas and iPods than grenade launchers and AK-47s. Plenty of bad dudes make the assumption that homes are empty during the day when everyone's at work or school. Call in sick or take a day off and you could be home when someone you don't know expects otherwise.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Some of the worst abuses of government force in recent years were precipitated by technical and victimless gun-law violations. For example, the BATF claimed that the Branch Davidians possessed machine guns without paying the required federal tax and filling in the proper registration forms. So a tax case worth less than $10,000 led to a 76-man helicopter, machine gun, and grenade assault on a home in which 2/3 of the occupants were women and children. — Dave Kopel and Dr. Michael S. Brown, Prohibition Fever, NationalReview.com
