Frankly, I don't care whether Virginia's lax gun laws were entirely, partly, somewhat or not at all responsible for the April 16 massacre at Virginia Tech. I wanted much stricter gun control before that catastrophe happened, I wanted much stricter gun control during the whole media circus that went to Blacksburg after it happened, and I want much stricter gun control now that we are all on our customary way to forgetting, till the next time, that it happened.

COMPLETE TEXT:

Halton police have seized five homemade guns after a youth accidentally shot himself in the hand this week.

Police say a 17-year-old boy was attempting to load a .22-calibre bullet into a firearm he had built himself from scraps of metal when the gun fired and the bullet went through his hand.

The boy's father turned the handgun over to police. Upon searching the boy's home, police discovered three more, as well as a fourth at another residence.

Ed. Note: Guess Canada will have to ban metal and tools now, as well.

Wyatt Henry, both his alias and legal name, is 11 years old and he already owns 10 guns.

Shooting since he was six, and participating in cowboy action competitions since eight, Wyatt Henry is the western region champion in his age group.

"You can never really lose, because even if you do bad, it's just a bad score," he said. "There's a lot of different categories, and I'm not competing against these big guys."

Dutchess County law enforcement officials have a message for anyone carrying illegal weapons: If we catch you, you're going to prison. District Attorney William V. Grady said his office was spearheading a new awareness campaign to inform the public of a law passed last fall by the state Legislature. The law calls for a mandatory prison term of 31 2/3 2 years for anyone caught anywhere other than his or her home or place of business with a loaded, unregistered handgun. Using money provided by the state Division of Criminal Justice Services, the district attorney's office has posted information about the new law on five billboards in various parts of the county and on placards posted in local schools, Grady said.

Gun violence in Syracuse is on the rise. In just the past few weeks we've seen multiple shootings similar to the one that happened Sunday night. Syracuse Police tell us from January 1st to May 28th of last year, they responded to 80 shots-fired calls. In that same time period this year, they've responded to 99. We spoke with Chief Gary Miguel about the increase and what police are doing to try and stop it.

"Arthur Du Mosch has averted a cat-astrophe."

"The 49-year-old nature guide was fast asleep Monday, his family and pet cat dozing beside him, when a larger feline hopped in his bed for a latenight visit - a wild leopard, to be exact."

"Du Mosch, 49, a nature guide, didn't flinch. Clad only in underwear and a T-shirt, he lunged at the leopard, grabbed it around the neck, then pinned it down for 20 minutes - until park rangers arrived on the scene." ...

An Ashland, Ky., man who was initially arrested for drunken driving now faces a myriad of charges after stealing a hand gun and creating a standoff at the Ironton Police Department late Saturday night.

Joseph M. Krantz, 31, is charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence (OMVI), felonious assault on a peace officer, kidnapping, aggravated robbery, inducing panic, vandalism, disrupting a public service, possession of a deadly weapon while under detention, discharging a firearm and resisting arrest.

While at the police department, Krantz reportedly overpowered the officer who arrested him and grabbed his service revolver.

Submitters Note: Don't LEO's claim that WE Civilians will have our weapons taken from us?

OTTAWA–The Conservative government's firearms advisory committee, appointed and operating in virtual secrecy, is made up almost entirely of pro-gun advocates opposed to the firearms registry.
Its dozen members

Include a man who argued that more guns in the hands of students would have helped in the recent Virginia Tech massacre, in which 32 people were killed, and another shooting aficionado who described a weapon used in last September's Dawson College killings in Montreal as "fun."

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani has dressed up as a woman of several occasions, but he never had a sex change operation. He was posing, in order to please an audience. Posing is something Rudy does. He poses as a person who hates abortion, in an effort to make his pro-abortion position more palatable to pro-lifers. He poses as a Second Amendment supporter while suing the gun industry, to please those displeased with the Second Amendement right to bear arms.

[special agent in charge of the Phoenix division of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives] Newell estimates that about half of those sold in Arizona wind up in Mexico, a quarter find their way to street gangs in California, where the laws are stricter, and a quarter stay with Arizona criminals.

Ed.: I guess in the ATFE's perspective, there aren't any gun purchases in Arizona by law-abiding citizens, only by criminals.

OH: Yet Another Case for Allowing Concealed Carry at Work

A recent event in downtown Columbus furthered the case long since proved by concealed carry advocates that leaving employees defenseless at work is dangerous and irresponsible. A very well known Fortune 500 company has just such a policy, despite the repeated attacks on employees walking to and from their cars parked off of company property.

The area between the work building and most parking lots is well known for drug dealing, panhandling and break-ins of cars and purse snatching.

Yet, in an irresponsible act, employees are banned from carrying at work and therefore are disarmed on their trip to and from their vehicles, plus while standing out front of the building during lunch breaks.

As President and Founder of the Good For the Country Foundation, I feel the sting of some disturbing news: How do you feel about a civil right being labeled as bad taste? How do you feel about patriotic foundations, publishers and certain groups being classified as X-rated and that your Internet search term brings you to a warning page that you must be 18 to view the site you’re looking for?

This may be rectified soon, since some have brought it to the attention of the search engine holding company, but Dogpile, the search engine, categorizes keywords such as Guns or Gun Control as Adult Content.

IL: Concealed-carry law would help fight crime

Earlier this month, an off-duty Chicago police officer ended the criminal career of a mugger, who made a poor choice of victims. Had this officer been an ordinary citizen of the state, the tables could have been turned and the citizen dead instead of the mugger.

Opponents of concealed carry claim that this would lead to "OK Corral" style shootouts in the streets. Obviously this is not the case, as we would surely have heard of such events in the other 48 states which permit concealed carry.

The NRA plans a media blitz, educating the public regarding the right of individuals to possess nuclear weapons. Included in the campaign is a thirty second commercial, which shows frightening images of Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and North Korean despot Kim Jong Ill. The commercial ends with these words, "When they outlaw nuclear weapons, only outlaws will have nuclear weapons."

Why are these "guns" still readily available everywhere? The intended purpose of such arms is to get junior ready for the transition to more powerful weapons. During this initiation countless birds and small animals pay an unimaginable price as they are shot by over-exuberant youth, fascinated with their new-found ability to kill.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"You seem ... to consider the judges as the ultimate arbiters of all contitutional questions; a very dangerous doctrine indeed, and one which would place us under the despotism of an oligarchy... The Contitution has erected no such single tribunal." --Thomas Jefferson, 1820
