"Although liberty means different things to different people, most would agree that it is not something that is bestowed by government; rather, in a 'free society' such as America , it is assumed that government exists to protect the inherent freedoms of its populace. The State often exploits this assumption by curtailing individual liberties in the name of 'protecting everyone’s freedom.' "

"Gun manufacturers have created legal weapons nearly identical to those that were outlawed, and federal studies indicate the law had little effect on crime. This has led gun-control advocates to wonder whether the ban went far enough, and gun-rights supporters to suggest that such laws do little more than boost the profiles of lawmakers such as Sen. Dianne Feinstein."

Over the last month, this paper has printed 4 anti-gun articles supporting extensions to the AWB. Last week, we got on them pretty hard and wrote in expressing disgust at these biased articles. Four letters from 2A supporters were later printed! Today the SDUT printed an article in which they used VERBATIM what many of us pro-2A people had to say to them! They gave the opposition's side, but then showed the obvious flaws in the law and even consulted pro-gun groups in the article.

"Carried out in the name of the war against drugs and the war against terrorism, these searches have succeeded in convincing many law officials that they have a right to burst through a closed door. In fact, all it takes for police officers to obtain a no-knock warrant allowing them to enter your home without announcing themselves is to convince a judge that they suspect criminal activity is taking place, that evidence might be destroyed or disposed of or that an announcement could result in violence. Yet these are clearly the actions of a society sliding inevitably toward a police state."

"Advocates of these searches—including U. S. Attorney General John Ashcroft—insist that the searches are lawful and valid because the police have a warrant to back them up. But warrants seem to be a dime a dozen these days, rubber-stamped by judges too busy to ask the probing questions they should of police officers."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy. She is the well-wisher to the freedom and independence of all. She well knows that by one enlisting under other banners than her own, were they even the banners of foreign independence, she would involve herself beyond the power of extrication in all the wars of interest and intrigue, of individual avarice, envy and ambition, which assume the colors and usurp the standards of freedom. — JOHN QUINCY ADAMS (1821)
