Mike Vanderboegh: Premonition

... "My friend John's prediction, his premonition, 'we . . . are about to have our fuse lit,' came to him because he understands where we find ourselves in the first decade of the 21st Century. His is an intellectual premonition, as was mine before Thursday afternoon. It takes no seer, no crystal ball, no weird purple light from the Twilight Zone to anticipate the coming confrontation between those who revere the Founders' constitutional republic and the God-given liberty it codifies and the gathering dark forces of 'enlightened' collectivism. And like most wars, this one will need to be fought precisely because most of us think it is impossible." ...

... "On a more personal note ... (some) of these citizens will remember that Bill Clinton expanded the laws of warfare in the 90's to include the news media of your enemy as a legitimate target of war, so a number of reporters, editorial writers (uh, what did you say you did for a living?), anti-gun bloggers and perceived 'traitors to the Republic' will die as well, even if (as I'm sure it is in your case) they don't deserve it. I mean, I'd never shoot an editorial writer myself, I have too much love for the 1st Amendment. However, there are others out there who doubtless lack my scruples, especially when they're being shot at themselves. And since Bubba Bill already said it was OK, they'll think, 'Hey, why not?'" ...

"In their continuing effort to destroy the Bill of Rights, the Brady Campaign has launched a joint effort with the extremist CREDO Action to block confirmation of federal judicial nominees who accept the Second Amendment as protective of a fundamental individual civil right." ...

"In its fund raising appeal, CREDO Mobile ... bemoans the likelihood that a Supreme Court ruling, due next month in the Heller case, will affirm that the Second Amendment protects an individual civil right to keep and bear arms. The group also complains that such a ruling will lay the foundation for legal challenges of extremist gun laws now on the books in several states." ...

Preparation, Not "Fear"

"People who are not 'firearms enthusiasts' often react predictably when the notion of carrying a handgun enters the discussion. ... One such predictable reaction is 'what are you afraid of? I can't imagine being so fearful all the time that you feel like you need to carry a gun. Why do you feel you need to have a gun all the time? Are you really that paranoid?' Or other words to that effect." ...

"Owning a gun is not at all about being 'fearful' or paranoid. It is about being prepared. If someone has fire insurance or a fire extinguisher, it’s not because he or she is afraid his or her house is going to burn down, it is so that he or she is prepared to deal with the (hopefully) unlikely event of a fire. ..." ...

"Ted Nugent and the National Rifle Association have teamed up to promote a lovely new number from the Motor City Madman titled 'I AM THE NRA,' ... The lyrics?:

'When I think of freedom, I got my Bill Of Rights.
US Constitution is my guiding light.
Our founding fathers, they were not confused.
I always celebrate self-evident truths.
I AM THE NRA. I AM THE NRA.

I am 'we the people.' I don't need no OK.
My pursuit of happiness will take me all the way.
If you hate slavery as much as we all do,
come on join the fight, I'll tell you what we do.
I AM THE NRA. I AM THE NRA.
If you hate tyrants and dictators, and are ready to give freedom a whirl.
Celebrate the NRA and the shot heard round the world.
The shot heard round the world.'"
"Ralph Waldo Emerson would be proud." ...

"Columnist Tom Eblen of the Lexington [Ky.] Herald-Leader has proven to the world that he doesn't know what a 'right' is. He thinks it is something that you can 'compromise' over. He thinks it is something that can be endlessly tinkered with. He seems not to realize that a 'right' is something that is supposed to be insoluble, unchangeable, permanent. Worse, he has equated an American right to the horse raising industry as if the business decisions made by a handful of ranchers is somehow comparable to the observance and maintenance of our rights. Ridiculously he says that if we don't compromise this one right, our 2nd Amendment right, it will be taken away. ..." ...

"Don't be fooled. Having a gun gives you an edge. But a gun is only as powerful as the mind that controls it. Without the proper mindset, without having the mental tools to survive ... you're nothing but a sheep with a firearm."

"But now you can prepare yourself for the worst and be ready to survive a lethal force encounter. On September 27, you will have the rare opportunity to bullet-proof your mind with one of the world's leading authorities on human aggression and violent crime." ...
