"The federal government is considering a proposal to allow visitors to carry loaded, concealed weapons in some national parks, wildlife refuges and monuments."

"The National Rifle Association favors the proposed rule, arguing that it would help keep crime down and protect visitors from potentially dangerous wildlife."...

"But opponents, including several former National Park Service officials, say that the current rules are effective ... and that the change would threaten visitors' safety and could easily ruin the family-friendly atmosphere of the parks and other attractions." ...

Submitter's Note: Just as they predicted that FL, MN, NE, MO etc. would become "shooting galleries" if 'shall issue' laws passed.

"THE decision this week for a global treaty to ban cluster munitions in Dublin is a significant step towards reducing indiscriminate civilian deaths and making our world a safer place."

"But the world needs to do much more if we genuinely seek to stop civilians dying from weapons designed for war."

"This is because there is still a type of weaponry in the arsenals of every government on earth that continues to kill and maim civilians year after year. These weapons line more coffins than landmines and cluster munitions combined. They provide more mortuary business than any nuclear, chemical or biological weapon. And yet their trade is still not regulated by any international treaty. These weapons are small arms." ...

A man hunting black bear shot and killed a wolf near Olney, northwest of Whitefish.

Zachary Harms of Kalispell was driving his truck up a forest road Tuesday when he saw movement. He walked along the road with his rifle, thinking he may have seen a black bear.

Two wolves then ran out from the side of the road. One ran across the road and up the hillside. The other ran down the road towards Harms. The wolf closed to approximately 10 feet and Harms fired, hitting the female wolf in the front of the head.

The hunter contacted the sheriff’s office later that day and reported he had killed a wolf. Two state game wardens investigated, and determined the shooting was in self-defense and was allowed under state law.

"In 2000 ... Clinton came out as first lady in favor licensing and registering all new handguns sold in the United States. She also supported a bill then that would create a registry of all guns sold in the United States ..." ...

"Steelman, as a parent, is entitled to her decision on whether her son needs a gun, but to use the occasion as an opportunity to emphasize her support for the Second Amendment is just plain tacky."

"We support the Second Amendment. What we don't support are candidates who apparently believe the general public is so naive that it can’t see out-and-out pandering."

"Steelman, on Wednesday, posed for the cameras, holding various rifles while pretending to set her sights on a target. She then posed for a news conference in front of display cases of shells." ...

"This November, Buckeyes will head to the poll to elect a new Attorney General. This election is being held without the customary year-long primary campaigns, due to the nature and timing of the resignation of Marc Dann. As a result, a small group of men and women hold the future of your gun rights in their hands. Chances are very good that you do not know any of these men and women, and you certainly did not vote for them."

"Nothing nefarious is occurring - this is a process outlined in Ohio statutory and Constitutional law. A special election must be held ... Under Ohio's two party system, the result for 2008 is that the two parties will pick a candidate, and those two candidates will be on the ballot this November. ..." ...

"The California State Assembly yesterday passed legislation that would regulate sellers of handgun ammunition. "Well, the Illinois Politburo . . . er, legislature is so determined to impose legal obligations on crime victims ... that the House adopted not one 'lost or stolen' amendment to HB 2760, but two of them. House Amendment 1 would require the rightful owner of the lost or stolen gun to report the loss or theft to the state police, and House Amendment 2 would require that such a report be made to local police. ..."
