Gary North: Gun Control and Genocide

"Sunday, April 24th marked the 90th anniversary of the first genocide of the twentieth century: the Turkish government’s slaughter of over a million unarmed Armenians. The key word is 'unarmed.'"

"The Turks got away with it under the cover of wartime. They suffered no greater postwar reprisals for this act of genocide than if they had not conducted mass murder of a peaceful people."

"Other governments soon took note of this fact. It seemed like such a convenient international precedent."

"Seventy-nine years after that genocide began, Hotel Rwanda opened for business." ...

Raymond Kraft: The Fundamental Right of Self Defense: The 28th Amendment

"The states, as I see it, do not have the Constitutional authority or jurisdiction to determine the meaning of the Constitution, or to amend it, yet every state law that attempts to infringe the Constitutional right of the people to keep and bear arms is an attempt to define, interpret, construe, limit, and amend the Second Amendment."

"The essential issue here - whether the Second Amendment means what it plainly says, that the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, or whether the right of the people is subject to infringement by the States in the name of 'gun control,' needs to be settled, finally, and clearly, and I think the best way to settle it is to adopt the 28th Amendment to the Constitution of the United States, which should be known as The Self Defense Amendment."

"The thought of Mother's Day conjures up all kinds of images depending on who you are, or rather, who your mom is. She may have a busy social life or may prefer to spend her time with a close circle of loved ones. She may be a working professional, stay-at-home mom, or retired. She might be old, young, or both. One thing is certain, moms are irreplaceable as the giver of life, nurturer, and President of their child's fan club."

"Moms make numerous sacrifices in order to enrich their children's lives often without the child ever having knowledge of those sacrifices. They pay attention to everything we do and never lose the instinct to protect even after their children have grown into adulthood. They demonstrate wisdom and restraint and wrap it up in a sometimes quirky personality that makes her one of a kind."

"One way to show your mom that you care about her safety and self-reliance is by giving her the gift of a firearm and by spending time with her at the range."

"Motor vehicle bureaus would require four types of identification from Americans seeking driver's licenses under a proposed law designed to prod states into verifying the citizenship of applicants."

"Uniform requirements for driver's license applications were among proposals accepted by House and Senate negotiators trying to resolve differences in their versions of a bill to pay for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan. They also agreed on changes in asylum laws but remained divided over how much money to spend on border security."

"Both chambers will eventually consider the negotiated bill. The House could take it up later this week, but the Senate won't vote until after it reconvenes May 9."

"Armed vigilantes calling themselves the 'Minutemen' have made headlines recently for their volunteer patrol along Arizona's border in an effort to forcefully curb illegal immigration. In a radio interview two weeks ago, your governor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, said of the Minutemen, 'I think they’ve done a terrific job.' I say 'your governor' because I'm from Jersey, and if I have to choose between citizenship in a state led by an inarticulate ex-bodybuilder and one formerly run by a corrupt gay man, I'm going with Scrooge McScrewsguys."

"A Senate committee is thinking of adding one more provision to an anti-gun-control bill. The proposed amendment would guarantee in state law that Alaskans have a right to carry and store weapons in their vehicle, even if there is a municipal law against it or their employer prohibits it."

"The legislation, which the House adopted overwhelmingly April 12, would prohibit cities and boroughs from imposing any gun control laws more restrictive than the state. Backers say one set of gun laws statewide would protect Alaskans from running afoul of a local gun law more limiting than state law."

"Nearly 1,000 kits were received by the county last week from Project ChildSafe, a program that educates gun owners about preventing unsupervised children from handling guns. It is the second phase of the program, which supplied about 1,400 kits that were given away by the Sheriff's Office last year."
