A homeowner in his 70s shot and killed a former renter, who broke into his house in southeast Houston Tuesday night, police say.

Authorities say the homeowner had been letting a man stay at his home, but when the man began to have issues paying rent, he was asked to leave.

According to police, the man returned to the home Tuesday night, kicked in the door, and got into a fight with the homeowner, who shot and killed him.

Nearly two weeks after a gunman fatally shot nine coworkers at a San Jose light rail yard, the mayor of Northern California's most populous city is proposing first-of-its-kind gun safety restrictions that would require gun owners in the city to obtain insurance and pay an annual fee to cover the cost of gun violence.

California nevertheless deployed both of those arguments in defense of the AWCA. Benitez, like the Supreme Court, was unpersuaded.

Benitez concluded that the AWCA cannot survive even under the “intermediate scrutiny” test that the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit, which includes California, tends to apply in gun control cases. That test requires a “reasonable fit” between an “important government interest” (in this case, prevention of gun violence) and the means chosen to further that interest.

In terms of destructive power, a rifle with the features on California’s list is indistinguishable from the same rifle without them. It fires the same ammunition at the same rate with the same muzzle velocity.

Ahmaud Arbery was “not running for pleasure or health” and did not act in self-defense but was an “attacker,” according to a new defense brief filed in his murder case.

Attorneys for Greg and Travis McMichael, who along with William “Roddie” Bryan are charged with Arbery’s 2020 murder in Brunswick, Ga., filed the brief in support of an earlier motion to introduce Arbery’s past conduct into evidence.

OK: Should Budtenders Be Allowed to Carry Guns?

Because marijuana remains illegal at the federal level, using personal protection in the form of firearms really isn’t an option.

Since cash-seeking criminals across the United States keep trying to rob cannabis dispensaries with brute force, budtenders are now reportedly packing heat to show them what’s what if they try any funny business in their neck of the woods.

One dispensary worker in Oklahoma recently shot and killed an armed robber. These budtenders aren’t messing around. They believe that if someone walks into their dispensary flashing a piece, “you have every right to shoot them dead.”

The injunction is a reactionary ruling handed down by a George W. Bush appointee, who seems to otherwise be quite comfortable with the dismantling of democratic, constitutionally guaranteed rights. It reflects the populist rhetoric of the right-wing, fascistic elements within and around the Republican Party to the extent that it manages to incorporate a blatant lie about the deadly effects of the COVID-19 vaccine in a judicial pronouncement about assault weapons. Judge Benitez callously proclaimed, “More people have died from the Covid vaccine than mass shootings in California.”

The Expansion of Constitutional Carry

Bureaucrats were never supposed to be in a position to make us ask—even to beg—for our constitutionally protected rights, as they can in jurisdictions with “may-issue” carry permit laws.

Thanks in no small part to lobbying from the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, and to the many NRA members who stand behind the NRA by contacting their representatives, 20 states have now gotten bureaucrats out of the way by passing some type of “constitutional carry” (or “permitless carry”) legislation; in fact, four of these 20 states were added this year—Iowa, Montana, Tennessee and Utah.

Gun Shop owners and police in Metro Detroit said they are facing a massive shortage of ammunition.

“Some civilians have had better luck than police departments,” Taylor police Chief John Blair said.

Blair said the department tests its officer’s firearm proficiency three times a year, but because of the ammunition shortage, one test had to be canceled. The COVID pandemic also cut down on officer’s range practice.

“The officers don’t have enough trigger time and we are always concerned where those rounds go if we do have to fire that weapon,” Blair said.

No charges will be filed against a 19-year-old Omaha man who said he shot his father because the father had attacked the 19-year-old's mother.

Douglas County Attorney Don Kleine said Wednesday that after reviewing the evidence, he determined that Malik T. Williams was justified in firing shots Sunday morning outside his family home.

Some shotguns are specialized tools. There are short-barreled, camo-clad turkey guns, over/unders and side-by-sides built for the uplands, and shotguns with rifled barrels for hunting big game. Elite clay shooters purchase target shotguns with recoil dampers, adjustable combs, and interchangeable ribs. With enough cash on hand and ample gun safe space, you can own a specific shotgun for every application.

But most accomplished shooters will tell you to find one shotgun that you shoot well, and never let it go. These guns may not be ideal for a single pursuit, but they’re perfectly suited for shooters that split time between hunting multiple species afield and at the range.

Antigun Advocacy Group Tries To Rewrite Current History Of Gun Buyers

It’s widely established that law-abiding Americans are buying firearms at record levels. No one disputes it. Gun control groups decry the trend. Supporters of the Second Amendment celebrate it. But during the past 18 months, the fact is a historic number of Americans have taken ownership of their self-defense and that includes millions of first-time buyers who bought a gun.

Leave it to staunch gun control advocate and billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s agitprop bullhorn The Trace to “report” on a new “survey” severely downplaying what’s happening.

Rep. Dave Murphy, R-Greenville, said the Biden administration is "scaring us and making us feel like our Second Amendment rights are not going to be upheld."

The bill also would bar the enforcement of laws that restrict gun or ammunition sales and bar law enforcement from confiscating guns or ammunition.

It prohibits the enforcement of federal regulations that would ban semi-automatic firearms or assault weapons and regulate the capacity of magazines or require registration of firearms.

‘Historian’ Declares Second Amendment Is Racist

That’s spurious and ahistorical conjecture. Anderson fraudulently injects nefarious racial motives into the creation of the Second Amendment that are not supported by the plain language of the text, or by recorded debate at the time.

As David Harsanyi puts it, “This is wishful thinking. The Second is an attempt — much like the 1619 Project — to reimagine history in purely racial terms. The result is [a] tendentious polemic that suffers not only from a paucity of historical evidence, but from a dishonest rendering of the facts we do know.”

House Bill 3094 made South Carolina the 46th state where citizens may open carry a handgun, and eliminated the $50 fee for a Concealed Weapons Permit. These are important reforms that allow law-abiding citizens to carry a handgun in the manner of their choosing that best suits them, and eliminate a cost barrier to exercising this right.

The representatives ensured that the House concurred with the Senate to guarantee the Second Amendment advances in South Carolina. The House already passed H. 3096, the constitutional carry bill supported by these legislators. Though the Senate did not take action on it in 2021, it currently remains alive in the Senate for next year.

In this case, Braun and his fellow members of the conservative brain trust are trying to convince the gullible that a legislative act will carry more force than a constitutional amendment.

If the Second Amendment doesn’t allow for the regulation of firearms, even in a national emergency, then nothing Braun and his cohorts propose will change that.

And, if the Second Amendment does allow for regulation—which it does, given that the phrase “well-regulated” figures prominently in the amendment’s language—then no amount of grandstanding is going to alter that fact. This is particularly true if the grandstanders don’t have the votes to get the measure out of Congress, much less to override a presidential veto.

First, you take umbrage with the politicians referring to our “God-given right” to self-defense, but this is a straw man. Nobody ne is referencing scripture, but rather they’re employing a turn of phrase that has been used for centuries in America. As an example, you have (and freely exercise) your God-given right to free speech, and assuming that you also use this idiom, no one challenges you, asking where it says in the Bible that you can speak freely. This is because no one believes that you’re actually referencing Scripture when you use this phrase, and you don’t believe that these politicians are referencing Scripture, either.

The victim, identified as Chris Chevelon Jr., reportedly received life-saving measures by the Ocala Police Department until paramedics arrived. He was transported to a local hospital, where he ultimately succumbed to his injuries.

How to Build Up a 10-Year Ammo Supply (And Not Ruin it In The Process)

Most manufacturers will tell you ammunition has at least a 10-year shelf life. The truth is that with proper storage, it will last a lot longer than that. The key to storing ammunition is to keep it away from high humidity in a temperature-controlled location. Humidity can cause corrosion of the brass cases and cooper projectiles—so much so that cartridges may not chamber or extract after being fired. If you live in an area where the average humidity is above 50 percent, you need to solve this problem by using a dehumidifier or finding another way to absorb moisture.

Assemblyman Steve Hawley is outraged following the passage of a series of bills that would restrict the Second Amendment rights of New Yorkers, all of which he voted against.

They would drive gun sellers and manufacturers out of the state through burdensome regulation. One of the bills passed would make firearms manufacturers and dealers liable for harm caused by their weapon even if that harm is not reasonably foreseeable, if deemed a “public nuisance” (A.6762B).

“These bills won’t make anyone safer, and are nothing but shallow attempts to regulate sellers of firearms out of the state and make it impossible to sell handguns here in New York,” Hawley said.

Buried in a report by the Providence Journal on Rhode Island gun control efforts is a remark by a lobbyist for the Rifle & Revolver Association that underscores the sentiment of gun owners nationwide.

“Right now,” said Brenda Jacob with the RIRRA, “gun owners feel like we’re being proven guilty for crimes we don’t have any intention of committing."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. — George Washington
