"'Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.' - George Washington" ...

"... A government which once answered to the people is now issuing its own orders to the people, and occasionally killing them for its own purposes. Just ask the Davidians. A little bitty domestic plant, cultivated for the right reasons, has grown into an alien killer vegetable interested in nothing but its own survival and growth. I agree with Seymour Krelborn. Allegorically speaking, 'the vegetable must be destroyed.' In the meantime, let Audrey II become the new 'national floral emblem.' ..."

"The Second Amendment’s right 'to keep and bear arms' has been among the most controversial—and least understood—rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution. Did the Founders intend to safeguard an individual right or a collective right? How did England's efforts to ban firearms in colonial Boston shape the Founders' views on how to protect citizens from government tyranny? ..."

"... With the Supreme Court’s review of the Washington, D.C., handgun ban, along with recent shootings on school campuses and elsewhere, these questions are timelier than ever."

"Please join us on Wed., July 2, in Oakland, Calif., as Stephen P. Halbrook and Don B. Kates Jr. examine the Second Amendment and the gun control." ...

"A case pending before the US Supreme Court could decide once and for all if the constitution guarantees the right to bear arms."

"Gun Control is so controversial many churches actively choose sides."

"There are more than 190,000 handgun permits in the Tennessee Valley."

"Each permit holder passes an extensive background check and claims his or her right to bear arms."

"Now, for the first time in nearly seventy years the US Supreme Court is examining that constitutional right."

"There's no question about second amendment rights at the Ammo Dump. Owner Hal Shaw says, 'Everybody's right to own and possess a gun guarantees them the ability to keep somebody from breaking into your house.'" ...

"In its first comprehensive look at the Second Amendment right to bear arms, the Supreme Court is expected to rule on the constitutionality of Washington, D.C.'s ban on handguns."

"The District of Columbia's ban is considered the nation's strictest gun-control law. A ruling by the court to strike it down could threaten other gun-control measures across the country, including laws that ban machine guns or assault weapons." ...

"My grandfather lived through the great depression of the 1930's. He said they had little money but they made it just fine, because they raised a huge garden, owned over 100 laying hens, a few hogs and several milk cows and a number of bee hives. ..."

"According to stories told by gradfather (now 92 years old) they only had one firearm, a single shot 10-gauge shotgun. He said they used fine shot for small game and birds, heaver shot for varmints and medium sized game, and round lead slugs for large game, such as whitetail deer and black bears. He said that old 10-gauge was all they needed to keep meat on the table and pest out of the garden." ...

"This month the U.S. Supreme Court addresses the Washington, D.C., gun ban and with it, the Second Amendment, which deals with the rights of an individual to own a gun."

"It is a moot point for residents of Washington, where state law clearly guarantees one's right to own a gun without the ambiguity of a 'within a state militia' qualifying clause. The question here is not whether individuals have a right to own a gun but whether they have a good reason and what rules and regulations should be applied." ...

"Every year, guns kill or injure more than 100,000 Americans -- including more than 7,700 Californians, yet the federal government repeatedly fails to act to stem the tide of gun violence, according to a recent report from Legal Community Against Violence (LCAV). Because of this void in federal law, state and local governments are left to adopt policies to prevent gun-related deaths and injuries, the report concludes."

"'Fortunately, gun violence prevention remains a priority in the State of California, both at the state and local levels,' said Juliet Leftwich, Senior Counsel, responsible for LCAV's state and local regulatory work in California. ..." ...

"The first reading and discussion of a new ordinance in the city of Ranson that would prohibit firearms and weapons on public property was tabled ... after concerns were raised by the city’s police chief that the wording of the new ordinance may be too vague."

"The issue arose after an individual showed up at a semi-pro football game at Ranson's Charles C. Marcus Field with a gun about a month ago." ...

"The man did have a permit to carry a concealed weapon, but agreed to remove the gun from the public field. The council now wants to ... prohibit people from carrying firearms on public property owned by the city. The point, Hamill said, is that the council does not want people to carry weapons at public functions within the city." ...
-------

KABA Note: According to the WVCDL: This proposed ordinance is in blatant violation of West Virginia's municipal gun control preemption law, W.Va. Code § 8-12-5a, and must be stopped!

"The bill, which Buckeye Firearms Association strongly opposes, is another example of the legislature trying to make an existing crime more illegal."

Deveraux, who says he's been handcuffed and harassed because of his gun several times in the last six months in the city, made a plea to West Valley's council to reconsider how the police respond to situations similar to his." ...

"Bryan Ledford, an Ohioans For Concealed Carry member, was walking down a street in Willowick, OH yesterday when he was ordered to his knees at gunpoint by several police officers. Our member was exercising his right to Keep and Bear Arms by openly carrying a firearm. He did also have a concealed handgun license."

"A Willowick Police Sergeant showed up at the scene, and our member was berated by several of the officers over his choice to openly carry, even being told that, 'you can't just walk around with your gun exposed' and that he 'made a piss-poor decision. It has to be concealed.'"

"The man who raped four women in Bloomington between 2002 and 2005 left little behind for investigators. No fingerprints, no hair or semen that would provide the kind of ironclad evidence that can seal a conviction."

"But prosecutors had dozens of witnesses and a mosaic of circumstantial evidence that pointed to former police sergeant Jeff Pelo -- identifications made by victims, a computer stash of violent pornography and his arrest outside one woman's home late on a June night."

"Who would know better, prosecutors argued in court, how to cover his tracks than the 17-year Bloomington police veteran?"

"In the end, that was enough for jurors to find Pelo guilty Wednesday of raping the four women and stalking a fifth." ...

"In the past four years, gun owners in Ohio have made amazing strides forward. After years of battling for concealed carry, we finally won in 2004. In 2006, we won major reforms with HB347. As a group, the gun owning fraternity in Ohio has truly enjoyed advancement in our goals."

FULL TEXT BELOW:

Four guns were found buried in a plastic bag at Brookhaven State Park yesterday, officials said.

State Department of Transportation instructor Cardell Davis was training maintenance workers on bulldozers when a black plastic bag was uncovered, said Eileen Peters, a spokeswoman for the agency. Inside were three rifles and a handgun, she said.

Suffolk County police were called to the park, which is off the William Floyd Parkway in Ridge. The Crime Scene Unit recovered the weapons, which will be examined and traced to determine each gun's history and whether any were involved in crimes.
