The number of civilian-owned firearms in the United States has surpassed the number of people, according to a report released on Monday. With more than 393 million civilian-owned firearms in the U.S., there are just over 1.2 firearms for every American as of year-end 2017, a Small Arms Survey report concluded. In other words, each American can have their own gun, with 67 million guns left over, noted The Washington Post.

A missing pit bull and a bold accusation led to the shooting of three men in Fort Meade on Monday, a Polk County Sheriff's Office spokesman said. According to witnesses, Calvin Johnson yelled at 40-year-old Charles Peddycoart and his girlfriend about Johnson's missing dog. Johnson repeatedly accused the couple of stealing his pit bull. The couple walked to a nearby Dollar General store earlier in the day and the dog followed. |

Karen Butler is the face of the Shoot Like A Girl movement. In 10 years, her concept of inviting women to shoot guns and bows, under the guidance of competent female instructors, has seen great success and support within the shooting industry. Butler started Shoot Like A Girl (SLG2) in the off hours after working for the Department of the Army in Huntsville, Ala., in a Civil Service job. She retired, after 22-plus years, two years ago and stepped into a full-time career with her SLG2 business. Karen set up the business plan to include employees, contractors and volunteer staff shooters who work either on a daily basis or, when needed, onsite. |

An effort to revive a proposed ban on the sale of assault weapons failed in the Delaware Senate on Tuesday, effectively defeating the most controversial gun control measure pending before the Legislature. Two Democrats sided with Republicans in opposing the maneuver, including Sen. Brian Bushweller of Dover and Sen. Bruce Ennis of Smyrna. That left Democrats two votes short of the 11 needed to bring the measure to the floor. |

The NRA announced last week that it is partnering with the New Jersey Rifle & Pistol Clubs in its legal challenge of the state law that requires that “high-capacity” magazines be destroyed or surrendered. The lawsuit, filed last week in U.S. District Court, contends that the new law could affect up to a million gun owners and it calls the law unduly restrictive against Second Amendment rights. |

The tip that came into the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was simple: Someone suspected a felon in Southern California was illegally in possession of “a large arsenal of firearms.” What, exactly, constituted a large arsenal in this case? Sheriff’s deputies soon discovered the answer. Early in the morning on Thursday, a team of investigators arrived at a home in Agua Dulce, an unincorporated area about 20 miles northeast of Santa Clarita, and searched the property.

One of the latest online social media challenges has potentially legal and dangerous consequences. The “No Lackin” or “You Lackin” challenge, as it has been called on social media, encourages participants to pull guns on each other. Earlier in June, the Grimes County Sheriff’s Office in Texas said a teen was arrested and charged after shooting his 16-year-old friend in the face. Deputies said the two teens were playing the “You Lackin” game with pistols when one of the weapons went off. Raul Garcia Jr., 17, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony. |

Two gun rights organizations based in Washington State have issued a demand to backers of Initiative 1639, the new gun control measure aimed at blocking sales of so-called “assault rifles” to 18-20-year-olds in that state, asserting that the typeface used to print the text of the initiative on the rear of each petition is too small to read. The letter, written by Olympia attorney Sean Newman, was sent Tuesday to the Seattle-based Alliance for Gun Responsibility, the billionaire-backed gun control lobbying group. In the letter, Newman asserts that “the I-1639 campaign is utilizing unreadable petitions in violation of RCW 29A.72.100.” |

Rev. Rob Schenck held up a shiny leather Bible before a crowd of Christian leaders, Washingtonians, and the media. “I’d like to be able to read from this,” he said, unzipping the top. “But … “ Instead of pages, the Holy Bible contained a gun. It was a toy gun – of course – because the event was held in the National Press Club. |

When David Hogg first stood in front of a bank of cameras as a precociously articulate spokesman for a terrorized community of students on the day 17 people were killed at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School, nearby was the bicycle he had ridden to the scene. Because he’s a kid. It’s one of several vivid reminders of the remarkable architecture of a culture-changing movement in “#NeverAgain,” a book by Hogg, a recent Stoneman Douglas graduate, and sister Lauren, who just finished her freshman year, published on Tuesday by Random House. |

Do blind people have Second Amendment rights? Of course, they do. Should they be prevented from carrying guns for self-defense? No, they should be subject to the same laws as other people. Carey McWilliams has demonstrated, through word and deed, that blind people are fully capable of responsible self-defense and responsible use of guns. It is a disability, not a death sentence. |

Deschutes County District Attorney John Hummel says 39-year-old Medford man, Robert Garris, acted inappropriately in the shooting of Christopher Nolan in front of Bend's Jack in the Box restaurant, but says no criminal charges will be filed. Hummel says there are reports that Garris, who was staying at the Days Inn while working a construction job, would complain about, and then approach people whose looks he didn't like. "He would walk up to these people aggressively, and in essence, tell them to scram. Get off the property. He was acting like the self-anointed Sheriff of the Day's Inn." |
