"State authorities are continuing to investigate a Madera gun dealer after raiding the business Friday and seizing 28 American- and foreign-made assault rifles."

Authorities claim Zak's does not have a permit to sell assault weapons, said state attorney general spokeswoman Hallye Jordan in Sacramento. "They're illegal," she said of the rifles, "because they need to be registered."

"Thousands of criminals are now behind bars as a result of that 1998 federal sentencing guidelines. Fortunately, the Supreme Court decided Monday to keep them there."
KABA NOTE: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution needs to change its name -- to remove mention of the founding document it apparently despises.

"A passenger at Hopkins International Airport was stopped by security Monday when a screening machine detected a gun in his carry-on bag."

"The man was pulled aside and his bag was searched. Security found an unloaded handgun and some ammunition."

"The man claimed he did not realize the gun was in his bag. He thought he packed it with his other luggage."

KABA NOTE: Unless you'd like to be charged with a federal crime, check your carry-on baggage to make sure your pistol isn't in it. (Or join the growing number of people who refuse to "fly the friendly skies" until at least pilots are packing heat...)

"Investigators said an expelled student acted alone in the Erfurt school shooting two months ago in which 17 people, including the student were killed."

"There had been speculation in the German media that Robert Steinhaeuser, 19, had an accomplice in the attack during which he killed 13 teachers, two students, a police officer and himself."

"None of the victims would have survived even if they had been given immediate medical attention, according to the forensic pathologist's report."

KABA NOTE: Perhaps not, but they'd have had a better chance if a few teachers had been armed and trained.

"With the detention of Jose Padilla (a k a Abdullah al Mujahir), the Bush administration has made an extraordinary assertion of power. It is sweeping and unnerving. The administration contends that, by merely designating a person as an "enemy combatant," the government can hold him in prison without according him a trial. Indeed, the government does not have to charge him with any criminal offense, much less present evidence of an offense."

The Gun Trafficking Bill, SB 1434, sponsored by Howard Lee (D - Orange), and HB 1744, sponsored by David Miner (R - Wake) and Jennifer Weiss (D - Wake) is a pro-law enforcement plan designed to solve a real problem - that of criminals and kids obtaining guns."

"The Bush administration has now asserted that (a) citizens can be taken into custody as enemy combatants; (b) that, beyond such battlefield detainees, citizens can also be taken off the streets of any American town; and (c) that civilian courts cannot intervene to inquire into the legality of such arrests and detentions. When these propositions are taken together as a whole, the implications are very disturbing."

"Crime statistics released Monday by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) suggest strongly that tough gun control laws do little to curb violent crime."

"According to the latest FBI Uniform Crime Reports, the U.S. murder rate jumped 3.1 percent while forcible rapes inched up 0.2 percent. Overall, the U.S. crime rate climbed 2 percent. Interestingly enough, cities having strict gun control laws saw
their respective crime rates jump well in excess of the national average."

"The constitutional debate over campaign finance "reform" is far from over. Good.
One of the many items for concern: Americans have been led to believe that we are a democracy, not a republic and, consequently, that reforms which act to check the free speech of rich men, rich corporations, rich unions and rich special interest groups as "unequal," "unfair," "unconstitutional" and "sinister" are just what the Founders ordered.

Think again."

The word I get from Sacramento is that we are not hitting them nearly hard enough on SB-682 and AB-496. These two bills can easily stop ALL GUN SALES in CA by holding the manufacturers legally responsible for the actions of CRIMINALS! THESE BILLS CAN COME UP FOR A VOTE AS EARLY AS NEXT WEEK. FAX AND CALL YOUR REPS NOW AND GET YOUR FRIENDS ON BOARD TOO.

"In 1756, in Boston and other cities and towns, the coming of the American Revolution was speeded by mechanics, merchants, and artisans who organized against British tyranny. Calling themselves the Sons of Liberty, they set up committees of correspondence in the colonies to spread detailed news about British attacks on their liberties. They focused on the general search warrant, which allowed customs officers to invade and ransack their homes and offices at will."

But, there are those who either do not think, or do not comprehend simple English, that try to affect what is not theirs to affect - unalienable rights. These people are a different story and are at the present time the most serious threat to freedom in that they are doing exactly as the federal government wants concerning the most important amendment protecting ALL rights of The People. I refer to the right to keep and bear arms.

"There is potential danger to innocent bystanders and liability concerns, Davis said."

"Also, working police officers under duress have a hard time identifying who's who if somebody not in uniform is flashing a gun."
