Not so many years ago, you could pick up a tabloid at the grocery store and read about how big foot is my babies daddy and know it was all made up. Politicians were idiots, but you could at least tell the difference between that idiot, and satire.

I want to make us safer and we might have more firearms accidents than we have today. I put that shocking statement in front of you rather than stand accused of it later. You might think that fewer guns would make us safer. The more I learn, the more I doubt that approach.

Authorities say they're looking for northern Michigan sheriff deputy's rifle that's missing after he inadvertently left it atop his patrol vehicle.

The Kalkaska County sheriff's office says the .223-caliber rifle has been missing since mid-May, when the deputy put the weapon on the roof while adjusting his vehicle's equipment in the South Boardman area, about 190 miles northwest of Detroit.

The deputy apparently forgot that the rifle was on the vehicle and drove off. Undersheriff David Wagner II says the deputy tried unsuccessfully to find the weapon when he realized it was missing.

Self-defense instructor Ben Branam joins the Self Defense Gun Stories Podcast to look at four new examples. Were these gun owners lucky, or did they practice and have a plan? What can we learn from their experience?

Eighteen wooden desktops, like the kind children use at school, hang from one wall of the H-Space gallery off U Street. The artist, Mònica Pagès, treated each one differently, like she would a child. She titled the piece “I Am Safe.”

“It presents to me the irony that this is what a child should be able to say of his school, and also what gun owners say as a reason of why they have guns,” she said.

The New York Times recently asked 21 Democratic presidential contenders a question about firearms, and none of them advocated gun control. Instead, they called for “commonsense gun safety,” a euphemism that reflects a general caginess about how far they would go in restricting the constitutional right to keep and bear arms.

“In an ideal world,” the Times asked, “would anyone own handguns?” Many of the answers reinforce the impression that the Democratic Party is increasingly hostile to the Second Amendment.

Klickitat County Prosecuting Attorney David Quesnel says his office presently does not plan to prosecute Mark Allen, who was arrested in the shooting death of John Roger Swigart near Bickleton.

Klickitat County Sheriff Bob Songer made the disclosure through a statement released last week. In it, he stated Quesnel had advised him that, based on his review so far of the results of the investigation regarding Swigart’s death on June 16, “There is sufficient evidence that Mark Allen acted in self-defense” and that therefore no criminal charges will be filed at this time against Allen.

The bottom line with the NRA disputes is this: It’s Wayne LaPierre against North, West, and Cox — and, increasingly, against the NRA’s grassroots membership. So, who should I side with amid what firearms policy expert Stephen Gutowski correctly labels “Chaos at the NRA”?

As such battles of Titans go, there is one thing that is plain to me, and it does not require taking any side other than that of the Second Amendment.

Bravo. Right on. He gets it. Except when he doesn’t, and then he misses so widely it’s a forehead slapper. With a brick:

“Then there is the Bill of Rights, which grants Americans the right to have firearms…”

NO, IT DOES NOT!
Why are we still seeing otherwise sensible gun owners demonstrating such a profound misunderstanding of what rights are?

After a one-week detour, a bill that would allow Ohioans to carry a concealed gun without a permit has advanced in the Ohio House.

A House committee on Wednesday voted mostly along party lines to refer for passage House Bill 178, which would allow anyone 21 and older to carry any concealed deadly weapon as long as they’re not legally barred from owning a gun.

But only after the national interest in this tragedy had waned, did another tragic story begin to emerge — one that highlights the horrific consequences of gun control.

On the night prior to the shooting, one of the city workers had actually contemplated bringing her gun to work the next morning.

Kate Nixon told her husband she was concerned about a coworker’s strange and violent behavior. She wanted to bring a gun in her purse for protection.

But she opted not to because she figured that she would lose her job if she were ever discovered.

Perhaps you’ve made the decision to carry a firearm for your hike. Maybe you want to ensure an effective means of self-defense, or maybe you want to be ready for an impromptu hunt once you get to camp or the morning after. Either way, you will need a pack that can easily accommodate a firearm and I just happen to have two in mind that work very well for the task — The Commander + Pack and Commander X Pack from Alps OutdoorZ.

The small town of Needles, California, which sits right along the California-Arizona border, declared itself a Second Amendment Sanctuary City earlier this month. The city's officials wanted to show their support for gun rights and obtain an exemption from state gun control laws.

According to officials, California's anti-gun laws are severely hurting the small border town. Arizona gun owners have decided to boycott California over the Golden State's gun control laws, which is hitting Needles very hard.

Cory Booker's gun control proposal misrepresents the nature of constitutional rights

At fault is Booker’s misconstruction of Second Amendment rights and what exactly they entail. Under the Constitution, there is a fundamental distinction between rights and enumerated powers. Acting on rights clearly listed in the Bill of Rights, such as the right to bear arms, does not require the government’s permission. But the government’s regulation of such rights does require permission — permission that must be granted by the people.

This time, the publishing requirement fell through the cracks. Apparently, the error was innocent. Legislators send over official documents in folders known as “bill jackets,” but there’s no outward difference in appearance between a piece of paper for routine filing and a constitutional amendment that needs to be published. The secretary of state’s office missed the deadline. Secretary Paul Pate, a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, apologized to the governor, legislators and the Iowa Firearms Coalition, which backed the gun rights amendment.

A federal U.S. District Judge in Tacoma recently denied a motion by defendants to dismiss a lawsuit challenging I-1639.

The Second Amendment Foundation and the National Rifle Association filed the lawsuit and are joined by two gun dealers, one in Spokane and the other in Clark County, plus four young adults who are directly affected by provisions of the initiative.

Grant County Sheriff Tom Jones says his office will not be enforcing Initiative 1639, joining other sheriffs across the state.
