"The office of the Public Advocate for the City of New York has advised two Washington-based gun rights groups seeking documents covering work between Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s office and the Mayors Against Illegal Guns that it will review documents and respond to the groups’ Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) request."

"... The FOIL request came following disclosures that MAIG’s website was being hosted on the City of New York’s server and that it was being administered by city employees, and that Bloomberg had sent a 'special counsel' from his office to lobby in Nevada on gun control measures, on behalf of the anti-gun mayor’s group." ...

"While surfing the internet at work this morning, my husband ran across a blog with a post so… um. ..interesting that he emailed me the link and accompanied it with a note: 'Be sure to read this in an open field, so that when your head explodes it won’t make a mess in the house.' I was intrigued. As soon as I had the baby down for a nap, I sat down to read the post, Heidi Yewman’s ‘My Month With a Gun’, which you can find here. I then spent the first half of the baby’s nap writing a retort response, which you can’t find at the address at the link, as, to the surprise of no one, it did not pass the blog’s mediation standards . . ." ...

"We have all heard the phrase 'freedom isn’t free' countless times, usually in conjunction with a patriotic reminder of the sacrifices that our service members have made to preserve our liberty. Hundreds of thousands have died or been permanently disabled on both foreign and domestic battlefields in that pursuit. Many that have survived are forever scarred by the horrors that they experienced in battle. Remembering their sacrifice is a just and fitting tribute to be sure. However, for most people, that is where the awareness ends. It is generally viewed as the military’s job to make the sacrifices, for which the due respect is paid, but that the role for the rest of society is to merely be the benefactors. ..." ...

"This past Wednesday in the Midwest it was ungodly humid and hot. My air conditioner had been on the blink and we were waiting for someone to come fix it. I am usually up late into the wee hours working in my home office above my garage but it was so crazy hot up there I opted to lay down under the ceiling fan wearing nothing but a T-shirt and my Underoos. A little back ground on myself; I grew up in the country. We lived on a secluded plot of land and had weapons around mostly for snakes and varmint that we didn’t want bothering us or our dogs. I have been around guns for most of the 35 years I have been on this earth that I can remember . . ." ...

"Right now, the growth segment in the firearms market is concealed carry handguns. That’s the #1 purchase for new gun owners, a handgun for home defense and concealed carry. That’s exactly where the market segment the SCCY CPX-2 handgun has staked out . . ." ...

"I’ve always been a gun guy. Born in east Texas in the mid-80’s to an oil field family, I was raised in south Mississippi in the community that 5 generations of my clan have called home. My first deer was harvested at age 9 by a thrilling combination of a 7mm Magnum, my vision and trigger finger, and my father’s iron shoulder and nerves of something-tougher-than-iron. Guns are part of the very fabric of my being and culture. I have Mosins and German Mausers and .22 rifles from the early 1930’s, as well as a modest fleet of modern polymer handguns that I don’t shoot as often as I’d like. My point is, firearms come naturally to me, and are completely accepted in my world . . ." ...

"Russian psychologist Lev Vygotsky reckoned the bible had it right: in the beginning there was the word. Then thinking. The Wikipedia hive mind puts it this way: 'Vygotsky described inner speech as being qualitatively different from normal (external) speech. Although Vygotsky believed inner speech developed from external speech via a gradual process of internalization, with younger children only really able to 'think out loud,' he claimed that in its mature form inner speech would be unintelligible to anyone except the thinker, and would not resemble spoken language as we know it (in particular, being greatly compressed).' Clearly the Bill of Rights is a sacred document. We can’t alter it in any way, shape, or form. We should never impose any restrictions on those very freedoms that make America the country that it is." ...

Michael Schraa's Firearms Freedom Act grandstanding, it's time to replace the Second Amendment in a sensible way with a multitude of civility amendments that restrict concealed carry to those who can show a need and that allow tracking industry gun sales to determine how weapons are finding their way into criminal activity, thereby reducing the main arguments for gun hysteria. "Jonathan Orser’s neighbors knew he owned a tank, but few suspected the survivalist killed by his own shotgun Tuesday had more than 100 firearms, tens of thousands of rounds of ammunition and improvised grenades, Carmel police said."

"'It was really a surprise,' said Rich DiRusso, commander of the Greater Mahopac Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5491, which meets nearby. 'I had no clue he was that much of an equipment man.'"

"Orser, 41, a former Marine Corps reservist whose home ... has a full-sized British amphibious tank in the backyard, was found in the house by his wife, who was returning from a social engagement, with a fatal shotgun wound in the chest about 11:35 p.m. ..." ...

"The RCMP revealed Thursday that officers had seized a 'substantial' number of firearms from homes in the evacuated town of High River, about 37 kilometres south Calgary."

"'We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,' said Sgt. Brian Topham. 'People have a significant amount of money invested in firearms … so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re safe.'" ...

"It was a dark and stormy night."

"So started 'Paul Clifford,' perhaps the worst successful novel of all time. And so started the events February 26, 2012, when George Zimmerman and Trayvon Martin met, one life ended and the other will never be the same. Like the predictable silliness of the 18th Century novel, the trial of George Zimmerman started to a stupid joke, but the plot has improved since then, as have the performance of the defense lawyers . . ." ...

"Many people would assume that an instructor for a concealed carry class would be ex-military or law enforcement, and lots of them are. There is an instructor here in Trumbull County, however, who doesn't fit that mold."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military, the hired servants of our rulers. Only the government — and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws. — EDWARD ABBEY
