... "Perceived stonewalling, not only by the Justice Department in responding to subpoenaed information by the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, but also by the Republican leadership in aggressively pressing forward, has resulted in competing speculation on the willingness of investigators to proceed with a threatened contempt of Congress citation against the Attorney General." ...

Question of the Day: Are You a Single Issue Voter?

... "The advance of gun rights is certainly an important issue I take into consideration when deciding which oval to color in when I’m in the voting booth. It’s just not the only one that informs that decision. For me anyway." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: To quote L. Neil Smith: People accuse me of being a single-issue writer, a single- issue thinker, and a single- issue voter, but it isn't true. What I've chosen, in a world where there's never enough time and energy, is to focus on the one political issue which most clearly and unmistakably demonstrates what any politician -- or political philosophy -- is made of, right down to the creamy liquid center.

"For many, the concept of effective handgun concealment begins and ends with purchasing a compact or subcompact pistol. While such an approach is beneficial, it’s only part of the equation. The most practical concealment holsters should possess a minimalist design, lacking in both bulk and size."

"One of the first to come to mind is the Yaqui slide ... originally produced by Milt Sparks and made popular by Col. Jeff Cooper during the early days of API and Gunsite. As a sign of the Yaqui Slide’s unwavering popularity, today many holster makers offer their own spin on that small-but-versatile holster."

"The Versacarry Handgun Concealment System takes minimalist holster design and versatility to a whole new level. ..." ...

"While I love my GLOCK 19 Gen 4, and think it is the perfect pistol to fit my needs, I tend to like to be a little different at times. GLOCK produces their pistols in one color: black. My husband has a Springfield XDM with the stainless steel slide and I have to admit that I prefer the contrast that it has compared to just one solid color. That being said, I wanted to give my GLOCK a little personality and change the color of the slide. I didn’t, however, want to pay a gunsmith to bake on a finish. I consider myself to be a bit artistic, so I decided to do it myself. I did a little research to find a product to use and in the end I decided to give the Shake ‘N Spray DuraCoat Finishing Kit a try." ...

"Rule number one. Never plan a gear review anticipating a successful hunt. ... My goal was to use my new SOG Aura-Hunting knife to field dress a turkey. I must have jinxed my hunt. NEVER plan on a successful hunt, no matter how great your guide and location is."

"Even though the thunderstorm brought gobbles out of the gobblers, we could not get them in close enough for a good shot. ... That meant two things, no smoked turkey for my Cinco de Mayo guests the next day, and no turkey to test my new knife on. In turn, I did the next best thing. The Aura was used to cut up my entire Mother’s Day steak dinner, and also cut up an old grouse from the freezer. I had to leave in a hurry one day and had to freeze a grouse in full feathers." ...

"Usually when I pit two guns together for a side-by-side shoot off, I’m trying to decide which one I like more. Smith & Wesson, Ruger, and Taurus all make .357 revolvers with six inch barrels. They all do the same thing—so looking at the differences in style, form and function makes sense. But the differences make each of those guns unique. What about 1911s?"

"The parents of Trayvon Martin, the teenager shot dead in Sanford, Fla., the night of Feb. 26 by George Zimmerman, a gated community 'watch volunteer,' were dignified and clear about what they demanded from Florida's system of criminal justice. All they asked for was an arrest and that justice be done."

"Because of Florida's 'stand your ground' law, the authorities initially declined to arrest or press any charges against Zimmerman. He told them that when he killed Trayvon he had feared for his own life. Zimmerman's 'state of mind' satisfied the standards of Florida's law, setting up not only his defense but complete immunity from being prosecuted or even sued civilly for the killing." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
War is an ugly thing but not the ugliest of things; the decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic feelings which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse. A man who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety, is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself. — John Stuart Mills
