"Citing a study claiming that the United States Constitution is no longer as influential as it once was for fledgling governments looking for inspiration in structuring their own constitutions, the New York Times is hosting the 'Another Stab at the U.S. Constitution' debate. The thinking, apparently, is that the United States must strive to remain one of the 'cool kids,' for other nations to want to emulate. In other words, the Times would apparently have us change the supreme law of our land, in order to be popular." ...

"The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Ownership Violence has come out with another one of their 'reports.' This one's titled How Guns Have Affected the Athletic Community & What It Tells Us About America’s Gun Violence Crisis. They start out with an executive summary and one of their typical 'facts': Each year in America, guns claim more than 30,000 lives – over 3,000 of them children and teens – and over 70,000 more are injured . . ." ...

"When I started The Truth About Cars (TTAC), car reviews were nothing more than glossy puff pieces. As automobiles are the average American’s second largest purchase (after their house), I thought there would be a market for 'tell it like it is' journalism. And so there was. When I left TTAC and started The Truth About Guns (TTAG), I applied the same 'no holds barred' principle. As firearms reliability and ergonomics are literally a matter of life or death, TTAGs truthiness is even more important. As long as I own this site, it will never compromise editorial integrity. I’d rather shut it down. Our readers’ interests come first. Period. I say this because of a disturbing online trend . . ." ...

Open Carry Thoughts

"Open carry of firearms in the United States is a source of regular debate among Second Amendment advocates. Some people see open carry as a social or political statement, while others merely see it as a convenient way to carry a self defense tool. Depending on who you talk to, you can get anything from zealot-like support to Brady-ish condemnation of exposed carry."

"Even if you don’t personally think open carry is a good idea, I believe there are some good reasons to consider it. For example, in some states obtaining a concealed weapon permit is not a reasonable option, yet open carry is perfectly legal. Certainly in these situations, open carry makes much more sense to me than going unarmed." ...

"At the beginning of 2012 Google AdWords stopped allowing gun related keywords from being bid on and displayed in the search results for Google. This affected many stores and retailers, but now Google is making yet another anti-gun move by prohibiting guns and gun parts or accessories from being displayed through Google Shopping. Effective later in the year Google will make the switch from Google's free data feed model of shopping that allows easy product comparison to using a paid model called Google Shopping. ... However while it might have made some businesses participation very hard to maintain it took gun retailers, tactical stores, airsoft shops and many other businesses out of the running for even being displayed." ...

"If you are a regular reader of TTAG, chances are that you are somewhat passionate about the firearms hobby. Based on some of the responses that I’ve gotten to some of my more controversial posts, I’d hazard a guess that more than a few of our readers can sometimes be passionate to a fault ... While I’m still relatively new to the firearms fraternity (I’ve only been a gun owner for a little over a year now), I’m the kind of guy who jumps into my hobbies with both feet. In a relatively short time, I’ve amassed a fairly robust collection of pistols and rifles ... Reloading my own ammo was probably something that I was going to get around to sooner or later . . ."

"The first part of my review of the Boberg XR9-S ended with my sending the slide and magazines back to the factory for refurbishing. You may want to read that as well as my out-of-the-box preview to catch up. After shipping them back to Boberg, I received the slide and magazines along with a new barrel about three weeks after I sent them off. In addition, a spare mainspring and recoil spring were thoughtfully included in the package. I also got a note saying they had tested both magazines with twelve rounds of ammo and shot 47 rounds of Russian steel cased ammo through the pistol. Since then I’ve shot it a bunch and here’s what I found . . ." ...

"Let’s face it. The vast majority of guns are rather boring. Not from a 'yee-haw!' perspective, but from the perspective of mechanical ingenuity and history. The modern AR-15 is the best example — repackaged 50 year old technology that’s so plastic and cold that it has no soul. But in the world of firearms the M1 Garand is the exact opposite, and in a world of expensive special purpose firearms, it still holds its own in terms of usability and effectiveness for almost every purpose. And it’s still relatively cheap to buy . . ." ...

"As a resident of Big Sky Country I am constantly running into native companies that are making some very nice firearms products. Recently I came across one of these firms while chatting up a professional varmint hunter who was taking one of the courses I teach. At the end of the day he pulled out his custom AR-15 complete with a very nice looking silencer threaded on the muzzle. ... However, what really fascinated me was underneath the silencer. It was threaded on a beautiful looking flash hider that also came with a separate flash hider/muzzle brake combo which threaded on the same way as the silencer. I was in the market for a new muzzle device so I called up Elite Iron in Potomac, MT to get the low down on their products . . ." ...

That fight has grown more intense lately, as the U.N. and global gun banners have markedly stepped up their attack on our Second Amendment freedoms by including civilian arms in the proposed Arms Trade Treaty."

"Most of the developed world seems to be living in la-la land when it comes to the UN's Arms Trade Treaty. I would include the Obama Administration in that category despite any reassurances that they might give regarding the Second Amendment. Not so out in la-la land are the Canadians whose statement at the opening of the Arms Trade Treaty talks has some realism in it."

They propose adding the following two paragraphs to the Preamble of the Arms Trade Treaty." ...

"Without much fanfare and with as little publicity as possible, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will go to New York City to sign the Arms Trade Treaty (ATT), now in the final stages of negotiation at the U.N. The treaty marks the beginning of an international crusade to impose gun controls on the United States and repeal our Second Amendment rights."

"The ATT is nominally geared toward the purpose of stopping international arms sales to gangs, criminals and violent groups. But, as is so often the case with U.N. treaties, this is merely a convenient facade behind which to conceal the ATT’s true intent: to force gun control on the United States." ...

"Anyone who has known me for more than five minutes knows my displeasure at the current state of affairs at the ATF, and specifically the wait times for NFA (National Firearms Act) paperwork to be processed. Seven months for a single form to be processed is honestly too much, and the American Silencer Association agrees. They met with the ATF NFA branch and members of congress recently to discuss the current issues and try to speed up the process, and hearing them talk about what’s going on behind the scenes (as well as seeing the STACKS of NFA forms in their hallways) was very enlightening and enjoyable.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. — Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985)
