"President Obama has an idea that can bring the contentious gun control debate to an end, in a manner that should be satisfactory to all sides. His idea is 'safe, legal, and rare'." ...

"Legal. No one wants to return to the days of dangerous back-alley gun deals. This is a no-brainer for liberals, who have cited back-alley risk for years. Surely conservatives also have an aversion to good people dying 'on the floor' in pursuit of their Second Amendment rights. Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi has been a real friend of the 'legal' in 'safe, legal, and rare' and her support shows that advocating for SLR-guns is advocating for life. Life demands that guns be legal." ...

"The Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence has released another of their 'reports.' How Guns Have Affected the Athletic Community & What It Tells Us About America’s Gun Violence Crisis is filled with falsehoods and misleading misinformation. To properly parse the Bradys’ agit-prop polemic, I’ve broken my response into several parts. "In a recent gun-related article, Fox News had space to repeat anti-rights propaganda:"
"'States with the highest levels of gun ownership have 114 percent higher firearm homicide rates and 60 percent higher homicide rates than states with the lowest gun ownership.'"
"Here’s the problem: Journalists should report what’s told them by their sources, so including statements like the one above, even if you disagree, is reasonable. But if Fox is 'fair and balanced,' shouldn’t they also present data from the other side?" ...

"I inherited a sporterized M1903 Springfield six years ago when my father-in-law passed away. It's a great rifle that's probably taken more than a few elk in it's day, but it had buckhorn sights on it, making it pretty much useless beyond 100 yards."

"Or so I thought. More on that later."

"I decided I wanted to add a scope to it, a Vortex Viper from Brownells in this case, and I quickly found out that is no small task. First, I needed to drill and tap the receiver for a scope mount and add a Redfield mount to the top of the receiver." ...

"'Handguns are only good for fighting your way back to your rifle.' You have probably heard that glib saying before. This thinking pervades the gun culture so much that handguns are sometimes referred to as 'secondaries' and rifles as 'primaries.' It is a succinct statement that reflects some of the truth about the inferiority of handguns as fight stoppers, but for the vast many of those who carry a handgun daily; it misses the mark by a long shot." ...

"I received a surprise email from our friends at Springfield Armory last week. Their girl Friday (a.k.a., Deb) was sending an .45 caliber single-stack XD-S pistol to my FFL. Following its debut at the SHOT show, the compact XD-S is hotter than Candice Boucher. Astute members of the AI will notice that the grip on this particular XD-S seems a bit long. It’s one of the first extended mags for this gun that’s been seen in the wild. ..."

It would require other countries to enact laws similar to those the United States already enforces against arms transfers to terrorists, criminal gangs and regimes that violate human rights."

"There has been a fight brewing for some time, this to be over the Second Amendment rights we enjoy. Many times indications of this have appeared in Congress as one new law is proposed after the other. Now people are saying Congress is being by-passed as U.N. treaties are being proposed. But there is much to consider here before one takes issue with this, the information will surprise some and annoy both sides. The real issue is not about 'gun control,' it is about dominance and restraints which have never been stopped. ..." ...

"A treaty being hammered out this month at the United Nations -- with Iran playing a key role -- could expose the records of America's gun owners to foreign governments -- and, critics warn, eventually put the Second Amendment on global trial."

"International talks in New York are going on throughout July on the final wording of the so-called Arms Trade Treaty, which supporters such as Amnesty International USA say would rein in unregulated weapons that kill an estimated 1,500 people daily around the world. But critics, including the National Rifle Association’s Wayne LaPierre, warn the treaty would mark a major step toward the eventual erosion of the U.S. Constitution’s Second Amendment gun-ownership rights." ...

"The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals heard oral arguments yesterday in the NRA's appeal of Jennings et al v. BATFE. This case, originally known as D'Cruz v. BATFE, challenges the Federal law that bars 18-20 year olds from purchasing handguns at retail from a licensed firearms dealer."

"This case was heard originally in the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas before Judge Sam Cummings. He ruled for the BATFE and the NRA appealed a few days later. Judge Cummings found that the rights of 18-20 year olds were not violated as they could always buy a handgun privately and that it was within the purview of Congress to set the age at which someone could purchase a firearm from a dealer." ...

"The Detroit PD's official version of events surrounding the shooting of Adaisha Miller continues to unravel – or become clearer – depending how you look at it. From the beginning, the story fed to the media stank worse than the dumpsters at the Fulton Fish Market during a summer garbage strike. Detroit Police Chief Ralph Godbee, Jr. showed almost Clintonian chutzpah yesterday standing before the press and continuing to push the tragic, hug-from-behind, the gun just 'went off' scenario. ... But even notoriously firearm-ignorant mainstream media types knew enough to wonder how a backside embrace can result in a downward shot to the thorax.  QUOTES TO REMEMBER
...but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights... — Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist No. 29.
