Bersa has updated the classic Thunder Plus with new slide cuts to follow the TPR line and now we have the TPR 380 Plus. Style cues are there from the classic Walther PP, double-action/single action (DA/SA) with a decocker, all-metal construction, and 15+1 rounds of .380 ACP. Oh, and it’s available most places for well under $400. That’s what makes the TPR 380 Plus worth taking a look at.

As if Joe Biden didn’t have enough trouble selling his administration’s agenda failures, a Monday event on the White House South Lawn to celebrate recent passage of a new bipartisan gun control package comes one week after the July 4 mass shooting in Highland Park underscored the failure of long-existing laws that promised to reduce so-called “gun violence.” |

The 9mm vs 40 Smith & Wesson (40 S&W) debate has been raging since the introduction of the 40 S&W in early 1990. Typically, the debate centers on which of the two pistol cartridges are superior for concealed carry. |

In 2020 Heritage Firearms introduced their Barkeep .22-caliber revolver. Heritage produces all those bargain-basement utilitarian Western-style rimfire wheelguns you see everywhere firearms are sold. The most expensive of the lot, a fascinating revolving rifle version of their basic Peacemaker design titled the Rough Rider Rancher, still sports an MSRP of only $333. The Barkeep was, until recently, the opposite lower end of the spectrum.

Self-defense is rising in Philadelphia, Pa., and some in the media appear to be unsure of whether this is a good thing. In a recent article from The Philadelphia Inquirer, the paper observes a sharp uptick in defensive use of firearms within the city. Citing several recent stories similar to the NRA’s popular The Armed Citizen column, the paper says documented defensive gun use almost doubled in the “City of Brotherly Love” last year, rising from 12 documented uses to 20.

Welcome to today’s Photo of the Day! Here we have a very strange-looking chunk of a shotgun. This is the South African Techno Arms Mag-7 pump-action shotgun. These were introduced in the late 1980s as a self-defense/police weapon. It is/was (the imported “American” versions have stocks and longer barrels) a pump-action, 16mm, concealable shotgun. They were originally configured with short barrels and some had folding skeletal style stocks, but most were wielded with just a pistol grip. They use a box magazine that slides into the pistol grip much like modern handguns. |

If you’re searching for a new .22LR pistol, take a moment to check out this Sig Sauer P322 roundup. The Sig Sauer P322 is closely related to the P365, as both pistols include similar designs. However, the P322 is chambered in .22 long rifle (LR) ammunition, which is smaller and more affordable compared to 9mm. |

While Second Amendment supporters celebrate the 6-3 ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen, they may also have been given a huge win by none other than Chief Justice John Roberts in West Virginia v. Environmental Protection Agency. The gist of the opinion Roberts wrote in West Virginia v. EPA is that government agencies like the EPA – or the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives – cannot exceed the powers granted by Congress. This opens up a whole new front in defending our Second Amendment rights in court.

On June 25th, 2022, the gun control compromise was placed into law. The legislation was initiated in the Senate and passed so fast it was unlikely to have been read by most of the representatives and senators voting for it. It will likely be years before all the changes made in the bill are understood in their effect on the administration of firearms law in the United States. One of the ways the bill was sold was by claiming it calls for “clarifying the definition of federally licensed firearms dealer“.

Why Did Gun Sales Go Back Up? Summertime can often see firearms sales fall off as Americans hit the road for summer vacations, and it isn’t until just before the fall hunting season that sales typically pick up. However, the last two years have changed the traditional rules – with the Covid-19 pandemic jumpstarting record sales just over two years ago. |

Ever since 41 Republican and five Democratic senators voted down a bipartisan gun safety bill after the 2012 mass shooting at Sandy Hook School, we’ve grown accustomed to Congress responding to massacres at churches, music festivals, nightclubs and workplaces with little more than “thoughts and prayers.” Why would anything be different after the nightmare in Uvalde? But against all odds, this time was different. Less than a month after the shooting in Uvalde, 15 Republican senators defied opposition from the National Rifle Association (NRA) and joined all 50 Democrats to pass the Bipartisan Safer Communities Act, the first piece of major gun safety legislation to make it to a president’s desk in 26 years.

Anti-gun politicians hate civilian gun ownership so much, they’re willing to do away with the First Amendment just to get at the Second. Such is the case with New York’s new speech-based restrictions on the Right-to-Carry. Just as troubling is California’s AB2571, which purports to ban all firearms-related advertising that a minor (those under the age of 18) might find attractive.

My tenure for the past decade as a western big-game guide, combined with a lifetime obsession for hunting, puts me in the field over 150 days a year. From ground squirrels to lovesick spring toms, bugling bull elk, and a smorgasbord of feathered and furred quarry, the Mountain West provides ample opportunity to hunt year-round. And since I am in the mountains or a duck blind so frequently, there are a few trusted guns I rely on. Of course, the following firearms are not the only guns you can use to hunt the West, but they have all served me extremely well. And if you’re trying to line your gun cabinet with the proper firearms to hunt all western game species, these rifles, shotguns, and pistols will get the job done.

New poll results from different sources show a beleaguered Joe Biden being battered by the numbers, and a separate survey suggests his policies may drag a lot of Democrats down at the Nov. 8 midterms.
Rasmussen Reports revealed Monday only 19 percent of likely voters think the country is on the right track, while a staggering 76 percent believe the nation is headed in the wrong direction. A year ago at this time, 42 percent said the U.S. was heading in the right direction, and 52 percent believed the country was going in the wrong direction.

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
As an individual, I believe, very strongly, that handguns should be banned and that there should be stringent, effective control of other firearms. However, as a judge, I know full well that the question of whether handguns can be sold is a political one, not an issue of products liability law, and that this is a matter for the legislatures, not the courts. The unconventional theories advanced in this case (and others) are totally without merit, a misuse of products liability laws. — Judge Buchmeyer, Patterson v. Gesellschaft, 1206 F.Supp. 1206, 1216 (N.D. Tex. 1985) |
