"Fifteen years ago, Osama bin Laden sent one of his operatives to the United States to buy and bring back two-dozen .50-caliber rifles, a gun that can kill someone from over a mile away and even bring down an airplane."

Submitter's Note: Actually the US Government bought them and gave them to Osama to use against the Soviet occupation in Afghanistan.

"In spite of all the recent efforts to curb terrorism, bin Laden could do the same thing today, because buying and shipping the world’s most powerful sniper rifle is not as difficult as you might think." ...

"Recently the Florida State University department of Criminology released a study indicating that people who employed self protection strategies reduced their likelihood of injury when compared to nonresistance."

"Old research seemed to indicate that resistance to confrontational crime contributed to victim injury. New information reveals the old assumptions were found to be largely attributable to confusion concerning the sequence of self protective actions and injury. In crimes where both occurred, injury followed self protection in only 10 percent of the incidents. Combined with the fact that injuries following resistance are almost always relatively minor, victim resistance appears to be generally a wise course of action." ...

... "We Americans are fond of talking about freedom, especially around the time of patriotic holidays, but I fear we’re losing the concept. Maybe that’s because the idea of freedom is so intoxicating that we’ve forgotten to talk about responsibilities."

"For example, we have the freedom in the Second Amendment that gives us the right to own firearms, but with that freedom comes a weighty responsibility. If you misuse that freedom, you go to prison." ...

"Months after the deadly courthouse shootings in Fulton County, the ripple effect is being felt in the Gwinnett County courthouse."

"It's time to get angry. It is, in fact, long past time for that and then for an entire community to mobilize."

"Last week, the Journal Sentinel reported on the grisly and senseless homicides plaguing Milwaukee. The killings, at 67 as of Tuesday, were up 46% from this time a year ago. ..." ...

"These spate of shootings defy easy explanation. An earlier Journal Sentinel story detailed just how spontaneous many of the murders were. Tempers flared, guns or knives - most often guns - were produced and people were slain." ...

"And while it is tempting to rail against the availability of guns, it's pretty clear that genie is long out of the bottle, though reasonable gun control laws are just a matter of community self-defense." ...

"Attacks, robberies, kidnappings and rapes can happen to anyone at any time, and those caught by surprise can be helpless against a predator if not prepared in advance. That's why Jonathan Burke is speaking out to people of all ages, encouraging them to be confident and fight back using simple self-defense methods."

"He has dedicated his life to helping people learn how to escape when, and if, a predator attacks, and he feels very strongly that people need to better equip themselves and their children with a basic understanding of self-defense." ...

Submitter's Note: Simple moves are good, situational awareness is good, but the safest and most effective self-defense tool is still a gun.

When 10-year-old twins Derek and David Wynn go back to school next month, they are going to have quite a story to tell their friends. Along with their father, Bobby they caught something quite unusual in relatives Lincoln County pond.

"You know it's not very often in the state of Kentucky you go out and do a little blue gill fishing and you catch an alligator," Bobby Wynn said outside his Rockcastle County home.

Once they wrestled the 42 inch, 22 pound alligator out of the pond, Bobby shot it with his pistol, right between the eyes. They've been keeping the alligator in their freezer because they plan to send it to a taxidermist and have it stuffed. Then they are going to keep it on display at home.

"Case closed. The police had their videotaped confession."

"The only problem is, physical evidence showed Raymond Wood did not commit the crime. After a year in jail, the Maine courts threw out his confession and set him free."

"It may be hard to imagine people confessing to crimes they didn't commit, but experts say police interrogation tactics - even perfectly legal tactics that don't involve violence - can be so powerful they trap the innocent as well as the guilty." ...

"Thankfully, it is already a crime to store a firearm in such a way that it can fall into the wrong hands in a condition to cause injury or death. In most areas of the country, provided the above is observed, it is lawful to maintain a legally owned gun in a reasonable state of readiness to defend oneself or one's family. Armed self-defense is a right guaranteed by our Constitution — to private citizens, not police, military or licensed security guards ..." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Some people think that the Second Amendment is an outdated relic of an earlier time. Doubtless some also think that constitutional protections of other rights are outdated relics of earlier times. We The People own those rights regardless, unless and until We The People repeal them. For those who believe it to be outdated, the Second Amendment provides a good test of whether their allegiance is really to the Constitution of the United States, or only to their preferences in public policies and audiences. The Constitution is law, not vague aspirations, and we are obligated to protect, defend, and apply it. If the Second Amendment were truly an outdated relic, the Constitution provides a method for repeal. The Constitution does not furnish the federal courts with an eraser." --9th Circuit Court Judge Andrew Kleinfeld, dissenting opinion in which the court refused to rehear the case while citing deeply flawed anti-Second Amendment nonsense (Nordyke v. King; opinion filed April 5, 2004)
