"'Bureaucracies throughout history have preferred to bury their mistakes in unmarked graves. The ATF is no different. If they think they can get away with it, they will do it.' -- Anonymous retired member of Alabama law enforcement.

"During the first week of May of this year, I received reports from more than one source of what I concluded was a credible threat to the life of a friend of mine. I still believe that it was credible then and remains credible to this day."

"The reason? Had he broken a law? Threatened an ATF agent? No. He is hated by the ATF because he refuses to be a willing victim of ATF misconduct and has continued to be a thorn in their regulatory side. No more. No less." ...

"Those of us who carry guns every day have what is called an increased sense of situational awareness. In common terms, this means that we pay closer attention to what is going on around us. ..."

"Recently, I received an email with a photo of a t-shirt that said 'Party Like It Was 1773'. That caused me to wonder what life was like in 1773. The answer came in a second email authored by our founding fathers which I am offering to you. If you pay close attention to the following complaints of our founding fathers and their stated solution, and compare many of the issues raised in this document to what is taking place in Washington today, the slogan on the t-shirt begins to make a lot of sense." ...

Feds arrest felon in sale of gun in McNair killing

"Federal agents have arrested a convicted murderer for allegedly providing the gun later used to kill ex-NFL quarterback Steve McNair."

"Adrian J. Gilliam Jr., 33, of LaVergne, Tenn., was arrested by agents of the [ATF]."

"A criminal complaint unsealed Friday in Nashville says that Gilliam — who was convicted of murder and attempted armed robbery in 1993 in Florida — admitted he sold the gun to the woman who later shot McNair." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: While other stories have asserted that McNair would still be alive if lax laws had only made it more difficult for his girlfriend to buy a gun from a licensed dealer, the truth appears to be she purchased from a private individual - and a convicted felon at that.

The NRA will be scoring the Sotomayor vote, which means it will be a factor in the organization's grading of candidates; a vote to affirm Sonia Sotomayor will probably put an "A+" or "A" out of reach for a lot of senators. This news probably means at least some slight headaches for a few Senate Democrats from rural states who need to be seen as pro–Second Amendment.

"[NYAGV] blasted the U.S. Senate for considering the gun lobby's deadly legislation which would force communities across the nation to permit untrained and dangerous individuals from other states to carry hidden and loaded handguns in public. NYAGV said that it is imperative for the safety of all New Yorkers that Senators Schumer and Gillibrand strongly oppose the gun lobby's extremist agenda by opposing this dangerous amendment and filibustering the amendment if necessary."

"Up to 375,000 registered gun owners in Arizona and Tennessee were today given the right to carry concealed guns into bars and restaurants that serve alcohol, in the latest example of loosening gun laws in a country already renowned for its lax approach to firearms."

"The change of the two states' gun laws marks a trend across the US towards increased rights for gun owners despite a spate of bloody rampages in recent months that have seen scores of Americans die. Advocates of the second amendment's right to bear arms argue that in the wake such shooting sprees, citizens should be able to defend themselves by carrying guns in public places."

I maintained in the letter that 'Some in the firearm community have leveled a number of charges against Judge Sotomayor that do not pass the truth test.'"

"Unfortunately, that’s standard operating procedure for many in the entrenched pro-gun community. Everything is a knee-jerk reaction that somehow morphs into all of our guns being taken away. "Aldridge is wrong. The gun show loophole is not a myth but a tragic fact – one that the killers at Columbine High School exploited 10 years ago before they murdered 12 of their classmates and teachers with the weapons they obtained through unlicensed sellers, without background checks, at a gun show."

The K-9 dog was left inside of a locked kennel and in the backyard of an enclosed, wooden 6-feet fence, Wolfe said. He said police aren’t sure how it managed to escape.

Brister was transported to the hospital, where she is scheduled to undergo surgery for injuries to her right forearm.

Buy a truck and get a free AK-47 gun.

That's the deal a Missouri truck dealer is offering new customers who buy a pick-up truck in August.

Mark Muller, owner of Max Motors in Butler, says he knows people will be bothered by the promotion.

But not to worry, Muller is not handing out free guns. Instead, he will give buyers a voucher to use at a gun store after they obtain a license to carry a concealed weapon.

The AK-47 is an upgrade on a previous promotion in which Muller gave away vouchers for the price of a Caltec pistol.

The retail value of an AK-47 is $450 dollars but Muller says customers can spend their voucher on the gun of their choice.

"Sometimes when reading the newspaper one comes across comments so outrageous and off the mark that a retort is necessary. On July 13 a writer stated in a Letter to the Editor that 'the NRA is a lobbying organization dedicated to putting more guns in the hands of criminals.' The writer then rambles on about the NRA advancing its 'radical program' and having 'access to our libraries.'"

"So not only does this writer have a problem with the Second Amendment ... but they also take issue with the First Amendment, which allows the dissemination of differing ideas in our libraries."

"Perhaps this writer should consider a move to Cuba or North Korea where they won't have to worry about annoying things like constitutional rights."
