CA: Mystery crop circles found in California

"It could have been a cat, but it was like a screaming, a whirrr. [It] sounded almost like a bigger cat was being cornered or something and was screaming to try to get out of it. I don't know what it was, but I know it was enough for me to grab my gun and sit there for a while and not go back to sleep for a while."

-------
Does not matter if the threat was a wild animal attacking pets, some crackhead attacking your family or a neighbor, even invasion by aliens of any definition. What matters is that a man used his Second Amendment rights to prepare for any of the above events. If a threat were of the invasion (human) type, what chance would he have without the proper homeland defense rifle? But the California government, U.N. for that matter, does not want you to have one of those.

"Eustace Mullins is the last living protege of Ezra Pound, the author of the only book burned in Germany since Hitler (a burning under the direction of Americans), and a former researcher for Joseph McCarthy. He's ... one of the most hated men in America in some circles. He belongs to no group, espouses no movement or party and doesn't give a damn what you think of him. ... Here's a piece of my conversation with him on his front porch on July 8th, 2003."

"Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Orrin Hatch fired a shot heard around the District of Columbia this week. Three days ago, he introduced legislation to repeal the draconian gun-control laws that prevent Washington residents from owning handguns. Since 1976, the city has maintained the strictest, or close to the strictest, gun-control laws in the nation. Despite the gun ban, Washington has frequently had the highest homicide rate in the country. According to FBI statistics, it was the murder capital again last year, with its rate of 48.5 killings per 100,000 residents far ahead of other urban centers. Reflecting on this situation, Mr. Hatch said that the District's policy is 'as ineffective and deplorable as it is unconstitutional.' We could not agree more."

"The 1994 ban on semi-automatic weapons, which, as the NRA points out, became redefined by Congress as assault weapons, is one law that Dean would like to see kept on the books. It expires September 13, 2004. Right there, that should tip off conservatives where Dean's true sympathies lie. As The Washington Post editorialized in 1994: 'Assault weapons play a part in only a small percentage of crime. The provision is mainly symbolic; its virtue will be if it turns out to be, as hoped, a stepping stone to broader gun control.' "

"Dean deserves to be pressed on whether he truly wants to just maintain the 1994 assault weapons ban or whether he would back one of two bills that purport to extend the ban but do much more."

-------
Dean deserves to be pressed about the definition of "shall not be infringed."

Former Houston Police Capt. Mark Aguirre of the K-Mart parking lot raid may run for city council. When asked what his campaign slogan would be, he answered:

"Accountability. We need that desperately. I gained a lot of public attention, dealt a lot of lemons and I'm going to make some lemonade. It's going to be sweet."

It could create a problem, since several people who said they were falsely arrested in the K-Mart raid are suing the city. "I don't think they have a case," Aguirre said.

FULL TEXT BELOW:

A circuit judge ruled Friday that the Christian County sheriff must release jail security tapes to state troopers who are investigating an inmate's allegations of abuse. Judge James Eiffert ruled, however, that the attorney representing the inmate may not have the tapes.

Holly Lockard says deputies strapped her to a chair and shocked her with a Taser gun last month in the Christian County Jail. Lockard has since been sentenced on drug-related charges and left the county jail.

A Taney County jail inmate also complained about abuse at the jail. Taney County had moved some of its inmates to Christian County so they’d be more secure, after some inmates tried to break out of the jail in Forsyth. Taney County Sheriff Jim Russell moved his prisoners out of the Christian County Jail after the allegations.

"Since 9/11, domestic spying projects have become as American as apple pie, the 4th of July and baseball. And like baseball in the age of free agency -- when eligible players can switch teams when their contracts expire -- it's difficult to follow the multitude of spy ops without a scorecard. With 'The Domestic Security Enhancement Act of 2003,' otherwise known as the Patriot Act II, now under consideration by Congress, it's an opportune time to review some of the projects offered up by the Bush Administration since 9/11. Not every cranky proposal has passed muster: Some have already been kyboshed; some are operational; and some are still in development."

The grueling and emotionally draining work of teachers, social workers, police officers, youth workers and council employees of all stripes is what's needed 365 days a year to help mitigate the antipathies which exist among our diverse - and diverging - ethnic groups."

His visit was short, but Attorney General John Ashcroft was here long enough to bring out protestors.

Around 200 demonstrators gathered outside the courthouse while Ashcroft spoke inside.

A big issue for the protestors was the Patriot Act. They say the act, with gives the federal government a broadened ability to gather information on citizens and non-citizens alike, violates their civil rights.

Protestors were fairly peaceful with no one being arrested. The demonstration closed one lane of road on 3rd Avenue, between Salmon and Main, for a time but traffic kept flowing.

Ashcroft was headed to Anchorage, Alaska and Seattle after leaving Portland.

"New York City public school officials forced two young women to be tested for pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases because they attended a 'hooky party,' claimed the New York Civil Liberties Union in a federal lawsuit filed last week. The young women, students at Intermediate School 164, skipped school to attend the party along with ten other students, and were called to the principal's office upon their return to school the next day, reported the Associated Press. School officials had heard that some students at the party were having sex, and the young women were not permitted to return to classes until they produced doctors' notes reporting the results of pregnancy and STD tests, according to the New York Times. The two plaintiffs, who have both since graduated from IS 164, ask in their complaint for unspecified monetary damages, an apology from the Department of Education, removal of any mention of the incident from the students' permanent records, and better training for school officials on issues of student privacy."

"In a rushed grab-and-run robbery, two men with a sawed-off shotgun stole two bags of garbage from a gasoline station attendant in Melbourne, police said Friday."

"The male attendant was carrying the garbage through a shopping center parking lot in the city's western suburb of Deer Park just before midnight Thursday when a green van reversed toward him, police said."

"A man slid the van's side door open, produced a sawed-off shotgun and demanded the attendant hand over the bags."

"Peel Regional Police have put convenience store owners and bank employees on high alert following a rash of violent robberies in the last week."

" 'This is really strange. We have no idea what is going on, or why this is happening,' said [the] officer in charge of the Central Robbery Bureau. 'This has been putting a strain on our resources.' "

"Chapman is alluding to the nine "violent" robberies that have hit Peel businesses since July 10 -- six of which have been in Mississauga."

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
