"He's baaack."

"Jack O'Connor, the man who took the .270-caliber rifle to princely esteem, lives on in a new book, 'Jack O'Connor: The Legendary life of America's Greatest Gunwriter,' by Robert Anderson (Safari Press, $35)."

"O'Connor is probably deserving of numerous reputations for everything from being cranky and egotistical to being a family man and the 20th century's best-known firearms expert."

"Durgavahini, the women's wing of Bajrang Dal, completed its 11-day arms training here Sunday. The training camp was organised to impart training to women to operate rifles and other long-range weapons. Inside the premises of "Saraswati Shishu Mandir", around 250 young girls were trained in Judo, rifle-shooting and many other self-defence techniques."

"Started on June 19, the camp aimed at training more than five thousand females in the 12-35 age group from across the country. The purpose was to make women competent in self-defence tactics so that they could face any ordeal with ease."

"Until late last year, David Fowler Jr. was just another Confederate-flag-loving, deer-trophy-displaying, junk-rusting-in-the-yard redneck (his term, spoken endearingly)."

"Despite the trappings, he wasn't deep into Southern history, though. Fowler's attitude toward the significance of his own tract of land on the north side of town: 'Wasn't interested, didn't care.' "

"Then the Georgia Department of Transportation notified him that it planned to condemn a wooded portion of his property to widen nearby U.S. 27 and alter the railroad trestle that crosses it."

"At that point, Fowler became a born-again preservationist and Civil War historian."

"For years we have complained that the Monroe Police Department has little respect for the rights of the poor, especially poor minorities."

"For years we have detailed the accounts of police brutality, abuse of force, harassment, insults, intimidation and a variety of other improper actions that have been leveled at Monroe's poorest residents."

"Much of that criticism has been shrugged off by politicians who either don't believe the reported actions are true or they don't care enough to make it a major priority."

"When do police officers need a search warrant to enter a home? That’s a question that is plaguing Southside residents who are complaining that increasingly Monroe Police Officers are coming to their homes, demanding entry saying they do not need search warrants."

"The latest incident happened last week when Monroe Police Officers came to the home of Pamela McCall, 3911 Gayton Street and entered her home with guns drawn, without a warrant and against her wishes."

"The officers, according to McCall said they had information that a man they were looking for came into her home. She said officers burst into her home without knocking, grabbed her 18 year old son and began frisking him as other officers roamed through her house with guns drawn in a defensive position."

"The complainant...told the Grand Jury that he had given the two guns, a Weatherby rifle and a single-barrel shotgun, to Barker to be raffled in order to buy protective vests for the K-9 dog units."

"With Fourth of July celebrations a few days away, Glendale will start using new technology to crack down on random gunfire."

"The West Valley city will be the third in the nation to use the Shot Spotter, a system that immediately pinpoints the location of a gunshot. In a square-mile area in south-central Los Angeles, gunfire went from 1,100 shots on New Year's Eve 1999 to four shots the next year, officials there say."

"THE number of guns in Victoria has risen for the first time since the Port Arthur massacre."

"Six years after the mass shooting, a Herald Sun investigation has found many Victorian communities are awash with guns, some with more than one firearm for every man, woman and child."

"There are now 556,673 legally registered guns in Victoria -- one for every three households. This is a marginal rise on last year's 553,124 registered guns."

"Victorians now own almost 50,000 legal pistols and revolvers and 6500 semi-automatic rifles and shotguns."

KABA NOTE: If the Red Chinese Army ever decided to march into Victoria, those numbers would seem rather puny.

"MORE than 650 gun licences were cancelled in Victoria last year after the holders committed criminal offences -- a 75 per cent jump in two years."

"And fearful partners, relatives or acquaintances took out intervention orders against more than 400 licensed shooters -- up 80 per cent."

"In all, more than 3300 permits were cancelled last year for reasons including unfitness to hold a licence, failure to pay annual fees, and voluntary surrender of licences."

"[Sporting Shooters Association president] Mr [Sebastian] Ziccone said the laws were too punitive and called on police to be given a greater discretion in applying them, as was the case with speeding fines."

"I could lose my licence for having one (shotgun) cartridge outside of the locked storage simply because I forgot it was in my pocket and left it on the mantelpiece," he said.

"The controversy of school prayer and religion in public institutions is an exercise in common sense and law, not ideology."

"Disregarding our history and prejudices, the above question does not pass the common sense test unless there is some bad element in religion that should cause parents to shield their children from it. Although this may be a hidden agenda of some advocates for separation, it is not the argument used for justifying the prohibitions on religion."

"Cities across the country have been quietly staging a revolt against the USA Patriot Act, saying it gives law enforcement too much power and threatens civil rights."

"Over the last three months, the Massachusetts cities of Cambridge, Northampton and Amherst and the township of Leverett all passed resolutions that call the USA Patriot Act a threat to the civil rights of the residents of their communities."

KABA NOTE: President Bush signed the so-called "Patriot" Act without even reading it -- nor did most of the congressfools read it, either... a fact they readily admitted. Attorney General John Ashban sought to quiet dissent of the bill during its hearings, too. Good for these communities, and may many more follow.

"The Violence Policy Center has consistently opposed efforts to shorten the time provided in the Brady Law to complete background checks from the current three business days. Although an overwhelming majority of background checks are completed within minutes, a sale may be delayed for up to three business days when there is a question whether someone is actually prohibited from purchasing a gun."

KABA NOTE: Given the fact that BATF doesnt' even go after convicted murderers who attempt to purchase firearms, perhaps VPC should focus some attention on them.

"A New Jersey man died after his rifle barrel exploded while he was target shooting over the weekend at the Easton Rod and Gun Club in Northampton County, authorities said Sunday."

"The accident happened Saturday at the club's Lower Saucon Township firing range at 11:30 a.m., said Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim."

'He had quite an extensive gun collection,' Graczyk said. 'I believe he worked for a company that manufactures firearms.'

KABA NOTE: Hopefully, a follow-up report will cover the type of rifle, type of ammo and additional details that can be useful to assure that something like this doesn't happen again. If it's true the gentleman worked for a manufacturer, the possibility exists that some creative gunsmithing may have been at play. May the man's family and loved ones recover quickly...

"If we are honest with ourselves, we will be forced to admit that we are celebrating something we really know nothing about. The true liberty and freedom the founders sacrificed to purchase for us are things none of us alive today have ever lived under nor experienced."

"Random actions are halted for now amid conflicting state and federal priorities..."

"Brown was one of just four people who balked out of 623 approached for random searches before boarding state ferries last month. But her story exemplifies the furor over searches aboard the vessels regarded by many as simply a floating part of the road system."

"We were looking forward to ice cream on the boat," Brown said. "But I had to draw a line someplace. Do you search people getting on a bus?"

"They didn't say this is just a mom with her two kids coming back from the zoo," Brown said, recalling the troopers' brief report to the ferry captain. "I was just stunned that the captain wanted to know absolutely nothing about me, just the fact that I'd refused the search."

"Last month, NRA members made a difference, as their phone calls to the State House helped ensure reform bill H.B. 1087 passed out of the Public Safety Committee. While the bill fails to make all of the changes needed to make Massachusetts state gun laws just, it is an important first step. But there is still work to be done! H.B. 1087 is now known as H.B. 5102 , and has been in the House Ways and Means Committee for several weeks, and shows no signs of moving."

"The federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms is investigating its handling of a case involving a convicted felon who killed his pregnant stepdaughter and wounded another person before killing himself early Sunday morning, an agency spokeswoman said Monday."

"South Abington Township Police Chief Robert Gerrity said his department on May 30 asked the ATF to arrest Charles D. Schuler after he tried to purchase a gun, but the charges were never filed."

KABA NOTE: Asking the BATF to investigate itself is like asking Hitlery Clinton to investigate herself -- it's a joke. Where are the federal charges against the "Special" Agents responsible for this life-ending dereliction of duty? And why is it that someone convicted of second degree murder only served five (5) years in prison!

"Guns a factor in older white male suicide-study," say anti-gun "researchers"

"Access to guns and a lack of social support make older white American men seven times more likely to kill themselves than black women of the same age, researchers said on Monday."

"Scientists said people over 65 account for 19 percent of all suicides, although they make up only 13 percent of the population. A team of psychiatrists and geriatrics experts from across the country set out to find out why."

"Researchers have not completely explained why people over 65 commit suicide more often than younger adults, but found a range of factors, including access to handguns..."

KABA NOTE: Perhaps these geniuses would care to venture a guess as to why Japan's suicide rate is higher than America's even though access to firearms is strictly prohibited. Perhaps they'd also care to PROVE a causal relationship between guns and the desire to off yourself, too. If guns cause people to commit suicide, shouldn't America's suicide rate be radically higher than all other industrialized nations combined?

Be sure to visit our Guns & Suicide archives for ammo to use against deceitful "researchers" like these folks.

"Checkpoint screeners at 32 of the nation's largest airports failed to detect fake weapons -- guns, dynamite or bombs -- in almost a quarter of undercover tests by the Transportation Security Administration last month, documents obtained by USA TODAY show."

"The tests, the first since the security agency began overseeing checkpoint screening in February, were done by agents who were instructed to do little to try to conceal the items as they passed through screening checkpoints, memos about the tests show."

KABA NOTE: But have no fear of flying -- if your plane is overtaken by terrorists, the Bush administration will order your plane destroyed in flight by an F-16, but won't let a pilot carry a handgun to stop such terrorists.

By the way, Bush's refusal to arm pilots has absolutely, unequivocally assured that KeepAndBearArms.com will not support his re-election bid, period.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
There are other things so clearly out of the power of Congress, that the bare recital of them is sufficient, I mean the "...rights of bearing arms for defence, or for killing game..." These things seem to have been inserted among their objections, merely to induce the ignorant to believe that Congress would have a power over such objects and to infer from their being refused a place in the Constitution, their intention to exercise that power to the oppression of the people. —ALEXANDER WHITE (1787)
