OR: Second Amendment is not license to kill

... "The writer also suggests the Second Amendment gives him the ability to deal with criminals and corrupt politicians. Has he read the Second Amendment? It gives him the right to keep and bear arms. It does not give him the right to shoot people he believes to be criminals and politicians he doesn’t like. That’s defined as murder." ...

What I learned from the Zimmerman trial today

I assume that in States other than Florida, they are not showing real time coverage of the Zimmerman trial on every major TV network. I am therefore a captive audience while I work at my desk in my home office. Last week I learned that anything you post on the internet can and will be used against you; even who follows you on Twitter and Facebook. Taken out of context, even the most innocent of comments or "Likes" can appear bad. Today I learned that if you shoot someone you should keep your big fat mouth shut and call an attorney even if it means a night in jail.

The fight that has the El Dorado County sheriff planning to revoke a federal agency’s enforcement power in his county is apparently over residents’ rights to carry guns.
Cory Ward is an avid outdoorsman who frequents the El Dorado National forest. But he’s concerned this paradise could turn into a police state.
“I have felt intimidated,” he said.
He’s got a long list of complaints against federal officers who patrol the forest. ...
It appears this exploding confrontation between Sheriff John D’Agostini and the U.S. Forest service may come down to guns, and the right to carry them, and whether U.S. citizens are allowed to bring them onto federal land.

On Monday, CNN showed George Zimmerman’s Social Security number and other personal information live over the air, including address, date of birth, and phone number.
Officer Doris Singleton was testifying when the prosecutors showed a narrative report including Zimmerman’s information.
That immediately launched a round of tweets by Zimmerman haters celebrating knowledge of that information.

Honorary Gunhand Hickok45 compares the new XDs 9mm and M&P Shield

The XDs 9mm remains a popular discussed handgun. I have already done a review on it and my opinion is that it is a good gun but heavy for its class. 23 ounces is not a good weight for a single stack 9mm when the competition comes in at much lighter weights. I mostly pocket carry and having carried the XDs .45, I know that 23 ounces is a little too heavy for my pockets. I had to wear suspenders or tighten my belt beyond my comfort level to hold my pants up. I much prefer to carry my 11.4 oz. snub nose or 15 oz. Sig P938.

“Moreover, even if a firearm is reported as lost or stolen, individuals often are unable to report the serial number to law enforcement because they are not required to record the serial number or maintain other records of the firearms they own for identification purposes. As a result, many lost and stolen firearms enter secondary and illicit markets with their status undocumented and undetectable.”

Business has been good for Rockland County-based Kahr Arms, so much so that it plans to expand with a new factory on more than 600 acres. The trouble, at least for New York state: The gun manufacturer, currently based in Rockland County, is expanding across the border in Pennsylvania, and in the process will be moving its headquarters out of the Empire State. The reason, according to a corporate official, can be found in the swift passage last January of Gov. Andrew Cuomo's SAFE gun control law.

The almost-unanimous vote against an assault weapon ban in Wheeling Monday was less dramatic than the impassioned pleas against the ban by nine village residents.

Trustee Ray Lang voted "present," and said after the meeting he did not want to vote on the issue. All the other trustees and Village President Dean Argiris voted "no" with no comment.

Argiris predicted the vote before the meeting, and citing the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution, said hobbyists are not the ones killing people.

Let me stress heavily I’m no self-defense expert, I’m no guru on home defense handguns and my total law enforcement career consists of being deputized in 1982 for all of 8 hours. Never, not once, have I had to resort to any firearm in a crisis situation. That said, to some family friends and even distant relatives I’m the only “gun-guy” they know. So it’s not easy to fend them off when in this current political climate I’m asked what sort of guns they should buy for home defense. That puts me on the hot seat because I don’t think novices to firearms should buy any gun unless they include some sort of training as part of the picture — and I stress that to them.

An FBI audio expert, who played a key role helping the defense during pretrial hearings, testified Monday at the George Zimmerman murder trial that there was no way to definitively identify whose voice is heard screaming on a recorded emergency telephone call.

Hirotaka Nakasone took the stand on Monday morning as a prosecution witness to explain the screams heard on a 911 call on the night of Feb. 26, 2012, when Zimmerman and an unarmed teenager, Trayvon Martin, had a deadly confrontation in a gated community in Sanford, Fla.

Zimmerman, who is charged with second-degree murder, has said he shot Martin, 17, to death in self-defense when the teenager attacked him.

The bill’s supporters say it grants no such right because residents have already been able to openly carry a weapon since the creation of the Mississippi Constitution more than a century ago.

“Clearly we think the petitioners who filed this lawsuit do not know or understand the constitutional rights that are in play,” said the bill’s sponsor, state Rep. Andy Gipson, R-Braxton. “House Bill 2 didn’t create rights; it just defined what ‘concealed’ means.”

State Rep. Jeff Thompson, R-Bossier City, authored a measure to prevent the media from publishing information about concealed-weapon permit holders. The bill was signed into law by Gov. Bobby Jindal last month.

On Nov. 2, 2012, more than 1.3 million Louisiana voters agreed that, under the state constitution, gun ownership is "a fundamental right under strict scrutiny of the court," and Amendment No. 2 passed. It was placed on the ballot after a vote during the 2012 legislative session and became known as Louisiana's "strict scrutiny gun law."

Following letters, emails and calls to the Friendswood Mayor, Police Chief and City Attorney, among others, William Langdon has filed a lawsuit against the City of Friendswood trying to get a judge to allow him to shoot his gun on his property without being arrested.

Langdon said he “owns an undivided fee simple interest, which gives me the right to use and enjoy all 114 acres,” near the intersection of Beamer Road and FM 2351 that has been in his family since the 1940’s.

In October 2009, Langdon said he was told in an email from Police Chief Robert Wieners that City ordinances prohibited him from firing a gun on his property.

Shraa’s bill will prohibit state or local law enforcement officials from following any federal mandate regarding gun confiscation, or restricting firearms ammunition and accessories.

“If the ATF or FBI want to try to do these things, this bill simply says, ‘Let them try.’ The local or state law enforcement officers will not participate.”

The bill also includes provisions protecting firearms manufacturers in the state and gun owner privacy.

Shraa made it clear he takes his oath to defend the Constitution seriously and pointed out that if the feds can take away the right to bear arms, our other rights can be taken away also.

What do you do when your business is about to be threatened due the passage of a stringent new state-wide firearm law? If you’re one company from Colorado, apparently the answer is to unload your inventory.

A new law in Colorado officially banned the sale of high-capacity automatic weapon magazines starting this Monday, outlawing stores from selling clips that can hold more than 15-rounds at a time. That was about to leave Erie, Colorado’s Magpul Industries in a peculiar situation, but they made the most of it by giving away hundreds of soon-to-be-outlawed magazines during a weekend event in the town of Glendale.

The Bayview district man who fatally shot one of three armed robbers who broke into his home last week likely won't be charged with murder because he appeared to have been defending his family, said Police Chief Greg Suhr.

However, an investigation into the incident is ongoing after police discovered the burglars might have been targeting an illegal marijuana-growing operation on the property, which is occupied by the 37-year-old man, his 31-year-old wife and their two children, police said.
