"Well, at least he didn’t nominate Alberto Gonzalez. And just when the media was expecting either an Hispanic or a woman, all they got was another white guy that no-one really knows anything about. ...His 'Conservative' credentials come from being a lawyer for the United States Government, whereby he fought for the issues as requested by his employer, the United States Government." ...

"And despite the Republican-heavy selections, liberals own the court. Liberal Justices are people who, on one hand, read the Second Amendment and can’t find a right to bear arms yet, on the other hand, can find an indisputable constitutional right to partial birth abortion through a crazy series of nonexistent Constitutional findings. ..."

"The tenth anniversary edition of 'Gun Laws of America,' the unabridged guide to federal gun law, shows both increases and decreases depending on how you count the laws, says Alan Korwin, publisher of Bloomfield Press, which has produced the book since 1995. The completely revised edition is due out in July." ...

"The word count however has dropped slightly, by 979 words or about 1%, to a total of 93,354 words of federal law. The assault-weapon law expiration removed 1,105 words, but it also eliminated the 3,710-word list of “good guns,” those declared to not be assault weapons. That list was included at the insistence of the NRA, who had feared the law might expand to include regular guns widely owned in America."

"Among the significant repeals, the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency, formed during the Cold War, was abolished, with its primary functions rolled into the State Department. The Civilian Marksmanship Program, designed to teach the general public to shoot and handle firearms safely, was repealed from the Armed Services laws, and expanded and rewritten into the Patriotic Societies laws."

"The Majority Leader of the United States Senate yesterday took to the Senate floor and said Congress should quickly pass the National Rifle Association's dream legislation to block lawsuits against reckless gun sellers. The reason speed is essential, according to Senator Frist: The U.S. firearms industry may collapse, and 'the Department of Defense faces the real prospect of having to outsource sidearms for our soldiers to foreign manufacturers.'"

"In a time of war, the Senate's Republican leadership would like to suspend work on defense measures so they can work on the NRA's bill. If they don't Senator Frist is suggesting, our troops will be unarmed."

"As planning for terrorism becomes a part of daily life in the Western World, a growing number of disaster experts are calling for a dramatic reassessment in the way the nation plans for emergencies."

"The problem, they argue, is that the current top-down approach views the public as a problem to be managed rather than an asset to be utilized. Officials don't take into account people's natural willingness to help or address their most basic needs - like concern about the safety of their spouses and kids."

"This upstart group of sociologists, physicians, and terrorism experts contends that the use of ordinary citizens during a large-scale emergency could save hundreds if not thousands of lives. And they are determined to ensure the public is properly prepared before the next catastrophic event."
