... "For someone whose legislative actions dropped him from an NRA 'A+' rating in 200 to an 'F' in 2010, with an eight percent key vote record in 2012, there is no appreciable difference between Republican McKinney and Democrat Malloy anyway. CCDL is taking the lead to show gun owners -- in Connecticut and everywhere else -- that coordinated activists can force change, and that their demands can define a standard office holders must adhere to -- if not out of principle then out of a basic political survival instinct." ...

... "The contention of Marshal Matt Wiggins, that 'We were clearly the police. She can't say she didn't know,' notwithstanding, The War on Guns Blog has documented many instances of criminal home invasions done under the guise of being law enforcement raids. A companion category to its 'Only Ones' files (dispelling the myth that police are the only ones who can be trusted with guns) titled 'Fauxnly Ones' provides numerous examples from news accounts over the years." ...

... "But instead of calling for such a national campaign to end racial profiling, President Obama offered a different solution. He said, 'For those who resist that idea that we should think about something like these Stand Your Ground laws, I just ask people to consider, if Trayvon Martin was of age and armed, could he have stood his ground on that sidewalk?'"

"Actually, The Daily Caller has reported that 'Black Floridians have made about a third of the state’s total 'Stand Your Ground' claims in homicide cases, a rate nearly double the black percentage of Florida’s population. The majority of those claims [55 percent] have been successful, a success rate that exceeds that for Florida whites.'" ...

"When I tested the Advantage Tactical Sights on a Glock 19 I couldn’t get on with them. Not because they don’t work. I’m double positive they do. They just don’t work for me. I’m red-green color blind. I couldn’t find a color combo with sufficient contrast to make the sights 'pop.' ... But enough about me, now about you. If you own an FNX or FNS and you aren’t color blind or vision-challenged, Advantage Tactical Sights’ new FNX and FNS $98.49 sights will lift your shooting to the next level. [Press release after the jump.] While night sites are the better, cheaper bet for self-defense (e.g., HiViz’s FNS front night sight), Advantage has the advantage for accuracy, depending on your genetics . . ." ...

... "To address the problem of expensive operation Ruger decided to chamber his first Single-Six in everyone’s favorite cartridge, the not so lowly .22 Long Rifle. This allowed for very inexpensive shooting, however in a full-size Colt such a chambering results in an overly heavy revolver. Bill addressed this by downsizing the frame of his sixgun to better match the size of the .22."

"The overall result was a virtually indestructible, well-balanced sixgun selling for, at least by the time I bought mine in 1956, $63.25. Just as they had with his first .22 semi-automatics, shooters took the .22 Single-Six immediately into their shooting hearts and it’s been a bestseller ever since. ..." ...

"I was very interested in the Ballistic Gel tests done with both Speer Gold Dots and ball ammo. Many of us senior citizens carry pocket .380's. The LCP is very popular in my area although most say they are hard to shoot. I have seen ballistic tests with the .380 Gold Dots before which is why I do not carry it any more. However, I do carry Hornady Critical Defense .380 and that only penetrates 10" but does expand. I also carry .380 DPX but it probably is not much better. After looking at a lot of gel test with JHP .380 ammo. I am seeing a consistent result; they all penetrate about 9-10 inches. That may seem ample to many but imagine taking a side shot or a shot through an arm. ..." ...

"I am not Trayvon Martin. I am not a black man. My ancestors were not carried to America in slave ships and denied their human rights. But my father was a slave under the Nazis and most of my father’s family were murdered in the Holocaust."

"I am not Trayvon Martin. I am not a black man. But I am an African American and a Jew. I know what discrimination looks like. I know what it feels like. But I do not let it define me or my reaction to others. I do not let it change my behavior . . ." ...

"Reports of an early Monday morning shooting that left one man dead and another one wounded in Seattle’s Eastlake neighborhood contain one detail that should not be lost on people too quick to judge others who might be a bit nervous about seeing someone in a hoodie."

"'A suspect, who might have been wearing a hooded sweatshirt, walked up to the car, pulled a gun and opened fire.'" ...

... "But, this isn’t a perfect world. In more liberal states, like New York, the Laws of Nature are minimized by the Laws of Man, and you don’t have a right to protect yourself, your family, or property without making some accommodations for the evil-doer. Even though a robber — whose title could easily escalate to 'rapist' or 'murderer' — obviously does not have your best interests in mind, you must afford him a certain level of safety with your state-mandated duty to retreat."

"Duty to Retreat laws require that you forgo acts of survival. ..." ...

"The legal concept of standing one’s ground against deadly force has been a part of American culture since our founding as a nation; and has been an explicit component of our country’s law for more than 100 years. An individual’s right to possess a firearm to defend one’s self is guaranteed unequivocally in the Second Amendment to our Constitution. And, in the case known as Beard v. United States, the Supreme Court in 1895 ruled that a person facing a violent assault may repel that action by force, including deadly force, without first 'retreating.'" ...

"The DeLand gun shop owner who offered George Zimmerman a free handgun to replace the one being held as evidence by the Department of Justice said he is now receiving death threats."

"Pat Johnson ... [said] that his offer to give Zimmerman a replacement Kel-Tec PF-9 is neither racially nor politically motivated. Nor, Johnson said, is it a publicity stunt. But a local religious leader said the offer is only ramping up tension."

"The offer was made after Johnson said he heard media reports that federal authorities were holding Zimmerman's gun ..."

"'This is so he (Zimmerman) can protect himself,' Johnson said. 'Regardless of what side you are on, he was found not guilty and he has the right to live his life.'" ...

"Concern over efforts to establish more stringent gun laws has resulted in record gun sales and a demand for ammunition that outpaces the supply. It also has pumped unprecedented amounts of money into state wildlife agencies through an excise tax on guns, ammo and other hunting and shooting equipment."

"But there's more. It has helped boost turn-away crowds at Friends of the NRA banquets in many parts of the country. These are food, fun, fellowship and fundraising events that support NRA programs, especially local youth shooting ventures and firearm ranges." ...

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The supposed quietude of a good mans allures the ruffian; while on the other hand, arms like laws discourage and keep the invader and the plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as well as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside...Horrid mischief would ensue were one half the world deprived of the use of them... — Thomas Paine, I Writings of Thomas Paine at 56 (1894).
