As a diminutive sharpshooter, with size being congruent to prodigious deities of the professional basketball, Steve Kerr made his fortune rivaling a mosquito like pest tantalizing fans with ICBM missiles burning the net from long range, while annoying rival followers with a frantic persistence. Existing in a supplementary role in the grand shadow cast by the legendary Michael Jordan, the guard accrued championship trophies while freely sharing the narrative in claiming to be a gun violence survivor.

However, this Independence Day, the 246th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence, should be especially significant to those of us who hold the Declaration of Independence, and the ideals it espouses, in high regard. |

In rural southern Indiana there are plenty of people who express their support for the Second Amendment and the right to carry firearms. One of those people is Martin County Sheriff Travis Roush who was one of just two sheriffs who testified before the Indiana legislature in favor of the newly enacted constitutional carry law.

New York Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul has signed into law a bill that restricts the concealed carry of firearms in locations such as government buildings, schools, and religious places of worship. This comes after the US supreme court ruling last week—which struck down some of the requirements for carrying concealed firearms in the state—including the previous requirement that gun owners had to demonstrate “proper cause” to obtain a concealed carry license.

A hollow point bullet is easily recognizable by the nose – because while they are not hollow bullets, they do have hollow tips. It will have an indentation, dip, cup, “x,” or some other easily identifiable mark or alteration that lets you know exactly what it is. The main reasons people flock to hollow points are for personal defense and hunting. However, there is also a strong following among competition shooters who like the increased accuracy that hollow-point bullets can offer.

Paul Helmke, director of Indiana University’s Civic Leaders Center, said when it comes to legislation surrounding guns, Hoosiers are watching a split screen. On one screen is Indiana’s permit-less carry law that took effect Friday, allowing anyone 18 or older to carry a handgun without a permit. The bill loosens gun control and puts Indiana in line with 22 other mostly GOP-led states that have similar legislation.

The National Instant background Check System (NICS) checks continued the trend of being the third-highest June on record, while gun sales jumped to the second-highest June on record. The drop in NICS checks by almost 500,000 from last June occurred primarily because of the reform of the Firearms Owner IDentification card system in Illinois. Illinois checks and rechecks for permits dropped by over 400 thousand.

Every year, on the Fourth of July, Americans take a day off from work to relax and enjoy an evening of hot dogs, hamburgers, cold brews, and fireworks. But how many Americans recall—or for that matter, how many Americans, especially among the younger generations have even learned—the reason for our commemoration of the Fourth Day of July, every year; the reason for our celebration of it? |

June has passed, summer is officially kicked off, and Americans are continuing to exercise their ability to buy and enjoy guns at a staggering pace. We expect that pace to continue to increase drastically in July after SCOTUS handed down a historic win for gun owners, dismantling the "may issue" permitting scheme in the New York State Pistol and Rifle Association v. Bruen decision. This is all after the Biden Administration passed the biggest gun control legislation in nearly three decades. |

QUOTES
TO REMEMBER |
We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily - given the political realities - very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal. — Pete Shields, founder of Handgun Control, Inc., New Yorker Magazine, June 26, 1976, pg. 53 |
