"More than 40,000 firearm owners rushed to register their guns immediately before a grace period to comply with the Firearms Act expired earlier this week, Solicitor General Wayne Easter says."

"Despite the crush, the Canadian Firearms Centre central computer system did not fail as registry opponents were claiming the day after the deadline expired, Mr. Easter said yesterday."

"As of June 30, when the grace period passed, 6.4 million firearms had been registered, he said in an interview."

"Combined with a total of 613,000 guns that have been exported, destroyed or deactivated, the figures mean the government is close to accounting for nearly all of the estimated 7.9 million firearms in Canada." ...

With the fairness and legality of its policy in question, the Knox County School Board zeroes in on Zero Tolerance

Two years after he was expelled from high school over a knife a friend had put in his car, Dustin Seal was asked to list what he missed most after his expulsion.

"Homecoming."

"Prom."

"Graduation."

"My friend."

"Math class."

"Band scholarship."

"Marching."

Two years after making the list, he climbed into his bathtub and shot himself.

Seal, known as Dusty to friends and family, killed himself June 21, 2002, more than five years after he was expelled from West High School at the beginning of his senior year.

His parents sued the Knox County school system for wrongful death. The case is pending in U.S. District Court after the court on May 5 denied a motion to dismiss. ...

FRANKLIN COUNTY -- "A 39-year-old former Zeigler police chief was arrested early Saturday morning after fighting with his ex-wife and displaying a handgun, police said. The Ingersolls' divorce was granted June 9."

"Harlen Ingersoll was arrested about 2:30 a.m. in a traffic stop by Franklin County Sheriff's deputies on Illinois 148 after he turned from Catbird Road onto the highway, police said."

"He was charged with domestic battery and possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card, police said."

"Ingersoll was held in the Franklin County Jail until posting $300 cash bond Saturday evening, authorities said. Court information was unavailable."

"Police said Ingersoll was Zeigler's police chief for eight years before leaving in 2002 to join the force at the VA Hospital in Marion." ...

CONSIDER...

One might wonder if this man, as police chief, oversaw charges of "possession of a firearm without a valid Firearm Owner's Identification (FOID) card" during his employment.

One also might wonder why this man got off with a mere $300 bail after threatening people with a firearm.

The man behind Minnesota's new handgun permit law isn't planning to start up his own militia. He doesn't wear an ammo belt or paint his face with camouflage.

Joe Olson describes himself as a "short, balding tax attorney" from Roseville. Yet he has almost single-handedly touched off one of the biggest political firestorms in modern Minnesota history.

Olson wrote the legislation that became the Minnesota Personal Protection Act, which makes it easier for Minnesotans to get permits to carry handguns in public.

Olson is one of the founding faculty members of the liberal-leaning Hamline University School of Law in St. Paul. Yet his political opponents list him as one of the top Second Amendment legal minds in the country.

He studied the laws in more than 30 other states with "shall issue" laws for carrying handguns, then literally cut and pasted them into the legislation that was introduced this spring.

The American television show depicting UK "gun culture" would show a bunch of spineless cowards handing in their firearms and running in panic when little kids hold up their fingers and yells "bang!" The next scene can show a woman laying down on her back for a local rapist, politely giving him what he wants -- followed by the easy flow of black market firearms into the hands of more rapists, robbers and murderers. The final scene can show British farmer Tony Martin going to prison for shooting a career criminal, while the stilted, stuffed shirt "nobles" condemn him for harming the poor, misunderstood thug. The Brits will see the show as a compliment to their "civility".

Instead of "Pups", it'll be called "Chumps".

MEXICO CITY (July 5, 7:09 a.m. ADT) - Gunmen killed a man believed to be a migrant trafficker and then fatally shot four bystanders, including a 12-year-old boy, apparently to avoid leaving witnesses, police said.
The shootings happened Friday in the city of Las Choapas, in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz about 280 miles southeast of Mexico City, the government news agency Notimex reported.

State police director Angel Landeros said the ambush on a 50-year-old man on a motorcycle was apparently related to a dispute involving migrant traffickers. Police found a pair of two-way radios that the victim was carrying.

The dead included four bystanders - three men and a 12-year-old boy.

Las Choapas, a truck-stop town on a main highway leading north, is a frequent stop for undocumented Central American migrants making their way to the United States.

CHICAGO -- Authorities said a 17-year-old girl who stabbed her former boyfriend to death outside the home of a South Side alderman Saturday night won't be charged.

Cook County State's Attorney's spokeswoman Marcy Jensen said the unidentified 17-year-old won't be charged because she was acting in self defense in what police are calling a domestic quarrel. Police said 17-year-old Kendall Walls attacked the girl and was choking her as he had done in the past when the girl stabbed him.

The stabbing took place near the home of Alderman Ted Thomas. Police said neither Walls nor the teenager who stabbed him are related to the alderman. However, Thomas' wife confirmed for NBC 5 that the girl lived in the neighborhood and had visited the alderman's home earlier Saturday.

The teenage girl is in police custody.

The Child Fatality Task Force was a real pain to GRNC. Now over $100,000 per year of taxpayer dollars will not be used to lobby for liberals.

The task force included several people from private liberal groups.
