"Crime rates go down when offenders must compensate their victims and responsible citizens are permitted to carry concealed weapons. Privatizing police gives them incentive to emphasize prevention and focus on violent, rather than victimless, crimes." [emphasis added]

"Violence seems to be a hallmark of our society. Our homicide rate is higher than most European nations; our children are even gunned down in their schools, often by other students." ...

"Establishment politicians can't stop crime because they haven't asked the tough questions: 'What crime prevention measures actually work?'"

"GUNS: How, if at all, should federal gun laws be changed?"

"Sen. John Kerry: I am a gun owner and hunter, and I believe that law-abiding American adults have the right to own guns. But like all of our rights, gun rights come with responsibilities, and those rights allow for reasonable restrictions to keep guns out of the wrong hands. ...'"

"President George Bush: 'Mandatory background checks through the instant check system are essential for keeping guns out of the hands of criminals and other prohibited persons. ... I support reauthorizing the current ban on semi-automatic assault weapons. ...'"

"By offering rabidly anti-gun Rep. Carolyn McCarthy a plum opportunity to promote legislation expanding the ban on so-called 'assault weapons' during their convention next week, the Democratic Party is once again showing its true colors to millions of American gun owners, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today."

"'For months, everywhere you turned, Democrats have been out hustling gun owners for their votes, trying to portray themselves as pro-Second Amendment. ...'" ...

... "The perspective VPC would like to impose upon us is that myriad innocent elderly, youth, and women are dying because of the availability of firearms. But the statistical facts from its own sources prove otherwise, showing significant downward trends in the violent crime VPC uses to push its agenda of civilian disarmament."

"By using emotional appeal to deflect us from scrutinizing shoddy research, one begins to wonder that if the papers written by gun control organizations are so fraught with misinformation, perhaps they are the modern day incarnation of Joseph Goebbels, who understood the importance of telling a big lie often. After all, one of the people gun control worked for during the 20th Century was Hitler. The question we all need to ask is: If gun control has been such a failure here and abroad, why would we want to pursue a policy that only enables criminals, large and small, to benefit?"

"America's most intense gun-control debate in a decade is being played out against the backdrop of presidential politics this summer with the approaching expiration of a 10-year-old ban on assault weapons."

"The ban will expire Sept. 13 unless extended by Congress, and House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, has indicated that he's unlikely to bring it to a vote. President George W. Bush has endorsed an extension of the ban, but he is not actively pushing Congress to take action."

"'It's an uphill battle,' Sarah Brady, one of the nation's leading gun-control advocates, said last week. 'Our streets are going to be filled with AK47s and Uzis.'"
