MA: Massachusetts Measure Would Ban All Semi-Auto Firearms

Massachusetts citizens who believe their state has ridiculously restrictive gun laws haven’t yet seen just how bad it can really get.

A new measure before the state legislature—H. 4038—would ban not only Massachusetts residents’ favorite old Browning semi-automatic .22-caliber small-game rifles, but also the semi-automatic shotguns they own for hunting, clay shooting, or self-defense.

Authored by state Rep. David Linsky (D), the legislation would rewrite Massachusetts’ already-strict ban on so-called “assault weapons.” In a nutshell, the bill strikes all references to “assault weapons” in the current law and inserts in that place “any rifle or shotgun containing a semi-automatic mechanism.”

A gun owners’ group has sued the Minnesota State Fair and Ramsey County, demanding that permit holders be allowed to carry handguns on the fairgrounds during the Great Minnesota Get-Together.

The lawsuit filed by the Minnesota Gun Owners Caucus in Ramsey County District Court argues that the State Fair’s ban on weapons violates the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms. The plaintiffs also include a preacher and a group member who say they want to carry their guns for self-defense when they visit the fair.

Should You Have a Concealed Carry Pack?

I will start with a caveat: this author does not promote off-body carry. However, there may be some circumstances that force you to carry off-body and modern concealed carry bags can facilitate this, but under most circumstances the gun should be on-person. With that said, there are a variety of other reasons that make a backpack, messenger bag, or sling pack exceedingly useful for the concealed carrier. Having a pack that is designed for daily carry, either kept in your vehicle or, better, carried with you when out and about, makes good sense.

Police say a Wawa employee was acting in self-defense when he stabbed a knife-wielding man.

It happened around 10 p.m. Thursday inside the store located on the 7200 block of Germantown Avenue in the city's Mount Airy section.

Police say a 41-year-old man walked into the Wawa and became upset he wasn't being waited on quickly enough.

He started yelling at an employee who was unpacking boxes and stacking shelves.

This concept, however, has just been challenged by an unprecedented lawsuit filed by the Mexican government on Aug. 4 in a U.S. federal court in Massachusetts. The complaint names key companies in the U.S. firearms industry and argues they are complicit in a vast iron river of guns flowing over the southern U.S. border and wielded by Mexican cartel gunmen to commit mass murder there. The companies, the lawsuit argues, deliberately marketed and distributed their products to meet the gangsters’ preferences for certain types and specifications of guns.

A rural Nebraska county board member considered, but ultimately rejected, introducing a resolution “endorsing” a right-wing group with ties to the Oath Keepers, a militia group that has seen nearly 20 of its members charged in the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol.

Clay County Board member L. Wayne Johnson said that after reviewing a proposed resolution from the Constitutional Sheriffs and Peace Officers Association, he decided that endorsing the association was unnecessary for the county to express its support for laws that adhere to the U.S. Constitution.

Antigun billionaire Michael Bloomberg is at it again. He’s throwing around money and demanding things, not even noticing that Americans aren’t listening to gun control mantras. Instead, they’re arming themselves at historic rates.

Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety Victory Fund is dropping $3 million to recruit “grassroots volunteers” to run for elected offices ranging from school boards to Congress in the 2021-2022 election cycle in a new program called Demand a Seat. That’s in addition to the gun control work of Moms Demand Action and Students Demand Action.

CA: What Is Going on in San Francisco? Woman Captured Leaning Out of Car with AK-47

Who is this woman? Whatever the case, she might be the winner of badass female of the year. San Francisco Police are asking the public to identify this woman after she was caught leaning out of a vehicle with an AK-47 (or an AKS-74U). Frankly, at a second glance at the picture, it looks like the latter firearm.

Look, crime is soaring in liberal cities and traffic might have been bad. It also perfectly shows that in some of the most anti-gun enclaves of the country, mayhem reigns. I mean, this is nuts, but it’s also pretty cool. If this woman has been arrested, she should receive a total and full pardon (via NY Post)

We believe in the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms.

Guns play an important role in the culture and economy of the Up North woods. For hunting, sport shooting, or personal protection, many Northeast Michiganders grew up around guns and use them every day.

However, every right comes with responsibility, and, the greater the right, the greater the responsibility.

As News staff writer Julie Riddle reported recently, a child shot a 5-year-old boy in the head in Mancelona after the first child came upon a loaded gun stored in an unsecured bin in a bedroom.

In Northeast Michigan, there’s no reason that should happen.

“Joe Biden is no longer hiding his real intentions,” to ban semiautomatic rifles and handguns, the Second Amendment Foundation says in a new 60-second TV message that will be broadcast on nearly two dozen cable networks nationwide beginning next week.

Biden revealed his agenda in a stunning remark made during a Townhall program aired by CNN. Responding to a question about guns and crime, Biden responded, “The idea you need a weapon that can have the ability to fire 20, 30, 40, 50, 120 shots from that weapon, whether it’s a, whether it’s a 9mm pistol or whether it’s a rifle, is ridiculous. I’m continuing to push to eliminate the sale of those things…”

Mexico’s Misguided Lawsuit against American Gun Companies

Mexican officials, assisted by the gun-control group Brady United, filed a lawsuit against several U.S.-based firearm manufacturers alleging that these companies encouraged gun trafficking into Mexico. Mexico seeks $10 billion in damages and injunctive relief. They claim the firearm manufacturers are responsible for the rampant crime, corruption, and uncontrolled murders being committed in Mexico by Mexican drug cartels.

These allegations are baseless. The Mexican government is responsible for its failure to enforce its own laws and control rampant crime and corruption within its own borders and government.

After more than 40 years of gun shows at the EXPO New Mexico at the State Fairgrounds in Albuquerque the State of New Mexico will no longer allow gun shows at state-run facilities.

The NRA released a statement on the state's "misguided policy" banning gun shows saying, "Senate Bill 8 [a 2019 bill that enacted sweeping gun control] has been a colossal failure, as proven by the lack of any prosecutions for violations of the law and the skyrocketing murder rate in Albuquerque.

NY: Rights are at the center of our political life

Over time, courts have expanded their conception of rights, ruling, for example, that a right to privacy, a right to counsel, and a right to marry were implicit in the Constitution. Today, we do not just talk about rights for American citizens, but we prioritize human rights in our foreign policy.

Importantly, rights are not subject to majority rule. Rights are not unlimited, however: You have right to speak freely, but you do not have right to yell fire in a crowded theater, as Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes famously wrote. And rights are not self-enforcing; they are enforceable in court. If we think our rights are being denied, we must persuade judges, juries, or legislators.

MN: Firearms should not be allowed at the Minnesota Capitol

I grew up in Minnesota, and I hunted and shot guns a lot. I’m not against guns. I even bought my two younger brothers their first rifle. And also as a kid I got to tour the Capitol, as kids still do.

As an adult exercising the First Amendment in the rotunda, I was told I could not carry a sign on a stick. However, others were allowed to carry firearms. I’ve also been in committee rooms where half the observers there were carrying guns. How can we have a civil discourse in that atmosphere? Imagine a group of school kids taking a tour as a demonstration goes on in the rotunda. Suddenly gunshots ring out! Why would we put our Capitol security, St. Paul police and state troopers in such an impossible situation?

House Judiciary Committee Republicans sent a letter to ATF Acting Director Marvin Richardson over the agency’s proposed rule change on “ghost guns.” The ATF is currently seeking to reclassify AR uppers and receivers as fully functional firearms, an attempt to prohibit Americans from producing homemade firearms.

According to the letter, the ATF’s latest proposed rule change “is deeply flawed, beyond the scope of ATF’s authority, contrary to years of previous ATF opinions, and harmful to millions of lawabiding American firearm owners.”

The Biden administration's nominee to head the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives failed to disclose some interviews and events dating back to 2012 on paperwork filed with the Senate for consideration of his nomination.

In one undisclosed 2019 talk given to a law firm titled "Can the Right to Bear Arms Coexist with Gun Control?," David Chipman said his views and politics weren't typical of most at the ATF and in law enforcement because the groups were mostly "a very conservative bunch, primarily of white men."
