The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) and key partners secured a major victory against gun control in California — of all places – recently. The win comes as the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals issued a mandate overturning California’s Draconian “one-gun-per-month” restriction. The victory cements a landmark precedent for gun rights.

The unanimous decision ruled in favor of SAF and its partners in Nguyen v. Bonta, SAF’s challenge to the one-gun-per-month rationing law. The Firearms Policy Coalition and San Diego County Gun Owners PAC joined two FFL gun dealers and six private citizens, including Michelle Nguyen, for whom the case is named, in the suit.

As anti-gun state and local administrations push to expand so-called “gun-free zones” and “sensitive areas,” the dirty little secret of these designations is that they are magnets for car prowlers — and the people who advocate for such places probably know it.

A recent report from the Council on Criminal Justice said there was a significant increase in the number of guns stolen from cars during a five-year study period from 2018 to 2022. The report said car break-ins resulting in theft of stored guns had jumped 31 percent during that time period.

While many of the public comments were voicing concerns of safety in regards to the presence of firearms in this space, other council members explained further that the space won’t be used to sell firearms or gun range.

“Many of the comments I received were about parking … As far as parking goes I don’t think the law office in there will get too much traffic. I also heard that this shouldn’t be a for profit business in this building, but if you are going to maintain a building, especially an old building like that I don’t think there is going to be a lot of profits,” Council member Ron Goggin said. “As far as the second amendment club, it doesn’t matter what the topic of conversation is going to be, that isn’t part of the zoning”

The Supreme Court is set to deliberate a significant Second Amendment case that examines the constitutionality of a federal law restricting firearm possession by individuals identified as unlawful users of controlled substances. This matter arises from the prosecution of Ali Danial Hemani, whose habitual marijuana use sparked legal questions regarding his right to bear arms. The Justice Department is urging justices to grant review, highlighting a growing circuit conflict regarding the law’s validity.

As reported by Fox News, part of Trump’s “Making DC Safe and Beautiful Task Force” effort has resulted in allowing D.C. residents to book next-day appointments to register their firearms with the Metropolitan Police Department, while walk-in appointments are now available and advertised on the police department’s website.

An Indian River County judge dropped the murder charge against a Vero Beach woman accused of killing her boyfriend last year.

On Thursday, the judge ruled prosecutors did not meet the burden of proof needed to overcome a claim of self-defense. He threw out the second-degree murder charge against Donna Smith and stated she would be immune from further prosecution.

Smith, 50, was arrested after she allegedly shot Jeffrey Simmons and then called 911 to report that she had killed him. The judge found that the two were arguing earlier in the evening and Smith left Simmons’ condominium to drive to her office.

A bizarre and dangerous confrontation at a Detroit senior citizen apartment complex ended in gunfire Monday night, but not before an armed attacker had his weapon taken from him and used in self-defense — a real-world example of why the ability to act quickly under pressure can save lives.

Detroit police say the incident happened at the Sheridan Place Apartments on East Jefferson Street during what was first reported as a loud barbecue.

Residents later revealed the truth: it was a long-brewing love triangle between tenants in their 60s and 70s that escalated into violence.

Ahead of oral arguments over Illinois’ gun ban in the federal appeals court, attorneys for the state filed their final reply brief.

Part of the state’s argument filed Thursday is that the firearms banned in 2023 are both dangerous and unusual. They cite that only 0.64% of the state’s population registered their firearms.

“Relatedly, plaintiffs cite the district court’s estimate that between 14.1 and 18.2 million adults own AR-platform rifles,” the filing says. “Even if these national numbers were more probative than the Illinois-specific data, that would amount to only 5% of Americans. In short, the evidence showed that these firearms are not widely possessed.”

Nearly 30 years ago, a woman wrote a bad check. Another man falsified food stamp documents. Others inflated tax deductions. All paid their dues — yet still face a lifetime ban on gun ownership.

Now, the Trump administration is pushing to change that.

The Department of Justice’s proposed rule would allow certain nonviolent felons to petition for the restoration of their gun rights — marking the most significant shift in federal firearms policy in decades.

The Idaho Second Amendment Alliance (ISAA) is not a fan of the Caldwell Night Rodeo's (CNR) ban on "weapons."

In a recent news release, the gun-rights advocacy group "called out" the CNR, saying the policy "undermines the rights of law-abiding Idahoans and jeopardizes public safety."

“We’re urging the Caldwell Night Rodeo and other venues across the state to reconsider these misguided policies and stand with the people—not against them,” said Greg Pruett, President of ISAA.

And another one gone, another one gone, another one bites the dust! The Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals has laid waste to California’s ridiculous “one-gun-per-month” law in yet another victory for gun rights.

The law, passed in 2019, prohibited individuals from purchasing more than one handgun or semi-automatic rifle within a 30-day period. The court had declared that the law violated the Second Amendment because the state “has not demonstrated that the one-gun-per-month law is consistent with the Nation’s historical tradition of firearm regulation.”

The initiative has enabled D.C. residents to book next-day appointments to register firearms with the Metropolitan Police Department, while also offering walk-in appointments. This represents a significant change from the previous system, which reportedly required applicants to wait up to four months for an appointment.

“No law-abiding citizen should have to wait months before he or she can register their firearms, or obtain a concealed carry permit,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. He added that the permitting process should take no more than a few days, calling “purposeful foot-dragging by anti-gun-rights bureaucrats” absurd and noting that it has “been known to cost lives.”

“Who are the militia? They consist now of the whole people.”

George Mason cut to the heart of it: the militia was not a government creation, but the people themselves.

That simple truth has been twisted, ignored, or totally forgotten.

Say the word “militia” today and most people look at you like you’re a fringe nutcase. But the founding generation saw it differently. They viewed a well-armed and well-trained people as the backbone of liberty, the essential security of a free republic.

The Constitution’s militia clauses were supposed to secure that principle. The Anti-Federalists warned they would do the opposite – and time has proven them right.

The Second Amendment Foundation and partners filed a lawsuit challenging the process non-residents must go through to obtain a license to carry in Massachusetts, the group announced, arguing the steps create an “unconstitutional barrier.”

The lawsuit, filed in federal court by SAF, Gun Owners Action League and three individuals applying for or renewing permits, challenges the process non-residents must go through to obtain a carry permit on the grounds that it creates barriers to the constitutional right to carry.

Gun rights supporters are celebrating what they call a significant victory after the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a mandate on Thursday overturning California’s “one-gun-per-month” law.

In a decision issued in June, the appeals court ruled in favor of the Bellevue, Wash.-based Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in Nguyen v. Bonta. The case challenged California’s one-gun-per-month law, which restricted most individuals from purchasing more than one firearm within a 30-day period

California lawmakers first imposed the gun purchase limit on handguns in 1999. Then in 2019, lawmakers passed an amendment that added the 30-day limit on semiautomatic rifle purchases.

“In its ruling, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals decided that U.S. v. Miller (1939), and its ruling allowing restrictions on short-barrel shotguns because they had no documented militia use, remains controlling and applicable to SBRs as well,” Kostas Moros, SAF director of legal research and education, said in a press release announcing the brief. “That’s wrong because even if it were correct that Miller remains the relevant standard, SBRs are demonstrably in regular use today in military roles, as the M4 rifle is the standard issue rifle of our military.”

And according to Kostas, that’s not the only flaw in the 11th Circuit Court’s reasoning in the case.

Arkansas legislators are reevaluating Second Amendment rights in state parks after a tragic double homicide at Devil’s Den on July 26. During a recent meeting, state leaders expressed concern about the potential lifting of firearm restrictions in these areas, as State Police Director Col. Mike Hagar highlighted the ongoing dialogue surrounding public safety and gun laws in the wake of the incident.

Col. Hagar argues that permitting more responsible gun ownership could enhance community safety, stating, “the more good people that we have with weapons… the better that we all are.”

Most police officers never fire a weapon. But if a cop has to pull their sidearm, they want to be confident it won’t accidentally fire a round into their foot.

Yet the San Francisco Police Department allowed a troubled gun to be issued to more than 50 officers, despite claims of it malfunctioning and injuring law enforcement officers across the country.

For several years, the P320 pistol, made by New Hampshire-based Sig Sauer, has reportedly been firing at times without the trigger being pulled.
