"The American Bar Association (ABA) last week called for an end to discrimination against people with alcohol and other drug addictions, and urged lawmakers to fully implement and enforce the nation's existing gun laws." ...

"Tackling the issue of gun violence, the ABA House of Delegates adopted on a voice vote a recommendation that Congress and the administration support full implementation and enforcement of existing gun laws by directing adequate investigative and prosecutorial resources at gun crimes and beefing up prosecution of major federal gun crimes ..."

-------
One would think a horde of lawyers whould recognize that most of those gun laws are unconstitutional. But it appears most of these attorneys wouldn't know the Bill of Rights if it jumped up and slapped them upside the head.

"If you've been longing for your very own assault rifle and 30-round magazine for the next holiday season, you're in luck."

"President Bush, sidestepping a promise, is allowing the ban on assault rifles and oversized clips to expire on Sept. 14. ..."

-------
Wanna define "assault rifle" for us, Mr. Kristof?

And further a bit of advice from KABA: You don't want to start your article off with a bold-faced lie. President Bush promised he would sign the reauthorization of the "Assault" weapons ban, and he has not gone back on that promise. Maybe people like you didn't whine enough or didn't tell enough lies to get it to his desk.

Kopel and others argue that an armed population is more effective at stopping genocide than the UN, and applies this lesson to Sudan.

-------
"If genocide is to be averted, it is essential to understand that once a victim population has been disarmed, those victims require protectors. If the protectors are absent or refuse to act, then the killing continues — as when the French garrison abandoned 20,000 Armenians in February 1920, and when U.N. forces stood idle in Srebrenica and Rwanda." ...

"Sometimes genocide against disarmed victims ends when another nation invades, for the invader's own interests, as when the Allies invaded Germany, when Vietnam invaded Cambodia, or when Tanzania — defending itself against incursions by Uganda's military — invaded Uganda and overthrew Idi Amin."

"Whistleblowers typically risk their professional and economic survival for 'committing the truth.' " ...

"...When Transportation Security Administration Red Team members found guns still getting through airport checkpoints, they were silenced. Department of Energy employees were punished for disclosing security failures at nuclear weapons facilities. Richard Foster, the chief actuary for Medicare, was threatened with termination if he provided correct cost information to Congress. This pattern of whistleblower mistreatment and cover-ups deprives the Congress and the public of vital information about government wrongdoing, and poses a substantial threat to an open, accountable government."

Third letter on the page

"Why would the citizens of this county sit still for a law that could turn a place of rest, family gatherings, and peaceful contemplation into a shooting gallery?"

"This issue is sure to set gun-rights advocates into a frenzy of Second Amendment declarations, so let's examine that. The Second Amendment says, A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed. To my way of thinking a 'well-regulated militia' translates, in modern vernacular, to members of law enforcement."

"I have no problem with law-abiding citizens willing to exercise prudence and caution owning firearms. If a person feels the need to have a firearm in his home to ensure personal safety, fine. If someone has a legal permit to carry a firearm, fine. It's the specific addition currently under discussion that I have a problem with."

"If this law is enacted, then it would be reasonable to assume that the public at large would become accustomed to the sight of people carrying firearms in such wide-open and public areas as our parks. The more people see something of that nature, the more desensitized they become to it. The more desensitized, the less diligent they become. ..."

This ignoramus should really do some research into what the Founders intended the "militia" to be.

Well, I went into this movie expecting... well... something exciting, maybe a little suspense, not as good as the first two movies (obviously), but which might offer an hour's diversion. What I didn't expect was to walk into something that might be better titled 'The Primitivist Manifesto'." ...

"The setup in the movie is simple: the Predators have created a temple in Antarctica, where in ancient times humans worshipped them as gods. The Predators treated us as cattle, using us to breed Aliens in a ritual sacrifice. The Predators would send three warriors of their own race into this temple, where they would battle the Aliens and hopefully emerge victorious -- a rite of passage, in other words. Into this ancient temple to wake the two evils come a small team of humans lead by a rich asthmatic and a spunky ice-climber who doesn't like guns."

"...If you turn the appropriate ancient clockwork dials, three appropriate and ancient but very high-tech firearms emerge. "Wait -- don't!" shouts the spunky female protagonist, as the over-eager bodyguard types eagerly yank the firearms from the crypt. Like children, they don't recognize them as firearms, they just want to pick them up and play with them. So to speak. Of course, removing the firearms triggers another clockwork mechanism that traps the chosen sacrifices in their chamber to be facehugged. The message? 'Don't leave firearms lying around, because ignorant children will pick them up without knowing what they are and then bad things will happen.' "

Does John Kerry truly believe in the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution, which says the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed?

Let his voting record speak for itself. He opposes the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (H.R. 1036/S.659), which grants gun manufacturers, distributors and dealers immunity from lawsuits. But, he voted "no" on more penalties for gun and drug violations.

Gun violators should be prosecuted, not innocent gun owners!

John Kerry received an "F" from the National Rifle Association in 2002. He received an "F" from the Gun Owners of America for the 108th Congress.
