    | "SIR John Stevens, the Metropolitan Police Commissioner, said police in London were on target to reduce gun crime by 2% this year, despite the number of murders involving firearms having doubled.

The number of gun deaths in London rose to 25 in the first 8 months of the year, up from 12 in the same period in 2000. Gun crime overall was up by 11%."

    | "You try to take all the precautions, you hang around the right people, you go to places you know it's not a trouble-making type of atmosphere, no matter what, if somebody wants to target you they will," said Dave Thomas.

Instructed to get to his knees, Thomas tossed the keys to the luxury SUV to one of the gunmen and then, on the ground, prayed that would satisfy his assailants.

    | If the FBI is intercepting someone's communication, keystroke by keystroke, federal law demands a clearance procedure much more rigorous than a simple search warrant.

 Why?

Because the interception of private conversation poses a direct threat to basic rights of privacy and free speech. If government must listen, it had better have a very good reason that has been thoroughly vetted.

    | The Herald Sun -- A fortress mentality is gripping householders as the law continues to lose its battle against residential break-ins. With more than 900 houses burgled each week, homeowners are turning to sophisticated domestic security devices to combat the crime.

"We're very concerned because it terrorises a lot of old people who just don't feel safe in their own homes. It's reached the stage where its an epidemic, everyone seems to have been broken into at least once."

    | "Whee, doggies, look at the folks at the Violence Policy Center squirm. The nation has an attorney general who dares to say that the Second Amendment addresses an individual's right to keep and bear arms, and the anti-gun rights people go into a 4-foot hover.

The center's Mathew Nosanchuk was spitting venom last month over John Ashcroft's reading of the Second Amendment as 'unequivocally' protecting the rights of individuals." --BY JILL 'J.R.' LABBE of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram

    | Washington Post Article detailing the latest tragedy associated with the 911 system.

This time we learn "Dial 911 to sentence someone to death."

Why can't the message be "Grab your 'assault weapon' and defend your neighbor"?

    | Bradley Arthur hopes 2 sculptures made from smelted guns will leave positive impressions on Tampa residents for years to come. The Public Art Committee hopes the artist's plan impresses county commissioners enough to spend $120,000 for the pieces.

"This is a very important public art project because it's about public safety," said Jan Stein, public art coordinator.

KABA NOTE: How about a sculpture made from the bones of government genocide victims. THAT would be about public safety.

    | KABA NOTE: Whether or not we agree with the matter of this arrest, we must look at how the police and judges in this case chose to accomplish their goals:

"the county’s search warrant was 'cloaked in generality' and the judge who signed it didn't have information proving Jones' innocence because investigators deliberately withheld it."

Liberty advocates must find such "law enforcement" tactics abhorrent, regardless of who they are used against.

    | Jeff Cooper, Gunsite's founder and former owner, 20-odd years ago saw these 1,500 acres outside Prescott as a natural site for an academy devoted to firearms... the internationally famous Gunsite Academy, where cops, military folks and 'normal citizens' pay $1,000 for one week of pistol training.
