"Some questions can never truly be settled. The Empire Strikes Back is the best of the Star Wars movies. But some people prefer Return of the Jedi. As this is a question of taste, there will never be a final answer (although I think we can all agree that, objectively speaking, The Phantom Menace sucks). Similarly, no religion can ever be 'proven' to be the correct answer to life’s spiritual questions. Such questions rest on faith. There’s no way to draw an objective conclusion. But on matters of public policy people can and should be able to negotiate in good faith and draw conclusions based on evidence . . ." ...

... "It may someday become common to read stories in magazines and newspapers about hoplophobia (morbid fear of guns)."

"The Bellevue-based Second Amendment Foundation has now moved for a preliminary injunction against Illinois to prevent that state from prohibiting citizens from carrying guns — something allowed in every other state."

"Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to avoid adverse court rulings on two pending federal lawsuits challenging his city’s ban on gun ranges. Chicago is reluctantly taking steps to perpetuate its systematic hoplophobia by finally allowing gun ranges within city limits." ...

"More than two centuries ago, our Founding Fathers wisely amended the U.S. Constitution to guarantee a Bill of Rights for its citizens. Rooted in freedom, our democracy has stood strong as Americans have enjoyed liberties unparalleled in the world - including the fundamental right to keep and bear arms. Today, our freedoms and our country’s sovereignty are in danger of being undermined by the United Nations." ...

... "Q: Obviously since we are featuring you your blog is Pro gun? What do you think the outlook is for the future of gun rights in America?"

"A: Well I could probably rant on this subject for awhile but for the sake of this interview I will try to be brief."

"Yes, OffGridSurvival.com is very pro gun. I think it’s one of our fundamental rights as Americans and in my opinion one of the most important right that we have. I think George Washington summed it up better than I can when he said 'Firearms stand next in importance to the Constitution itself.' Without the second amendment the rest of our rights wouldn’t stand a chance."

"That being said, I think our current political environment is very disconcerting. ..." ...

America needs common-sense laws that close the glaring loopholes in federal gun laws

"If today is an average day in America, eight children and teens will be shot to death before the rest are tucked into bed. Each day, our nation’s weak gun laws fail to protect our children, whether it’s a 9-year-old born on 9/11 and killed while visiting her congresswoman in Tucson, or a college freshman, eager to learn, yet gunned down with 31 others in classrooms at Virginia Tech." ...
-------

Submitter's Note: Of course, if you limit it to children and teens under 18, you halve that number. Remove the gang violence prone 16 and 17 year olds and you more than halve it again, to 1.75 per day. By comparison that same age group suffers 2.4 accidental drownings per day.

"The New York Times ... today appears determined to not retract allegations made in what many believe was an error-filled hit piece on Congressman Darrell Issa, the man leading the House investigation of Operation Fast and Furious."

"Through the week, Washington gun rights activists have been following the unfolding controversy, which is actually something of a sideshow to the larger controversy Issa is investigating: The [ATF's] botched gun trafficking sting that put about 2,000 guns into the hands of criminals here and in Mexico, and has accounted for deaths on both sides of the border." ...

"Finding someone to stand up and take responsibility for the feds’ ill-advised gun-walk-to-Mexico program has been anything but fast. Only the denying, obfuscating and bus-throwing-under has been furious."

"Months into a congressional investigation into Project Gunrunner and its Arizona-led wing, Operation Fast and Furious, we know only a little more. In large part, this is because Attorney General Eric Holder and his Department of Justice have expended far more energy covering up than coming clean." ...

"For nearly two years, Operation Fast and Furious largely took place under the radar. And it’s arguable that it would still be unknown to the majority of Americans had not Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry been gunned down with a weapon traceable to Fast and Furious on December 14, 2010. That death changed the complexion of everything by drawing attention to the fact that there are indeed weapons at large that the [ATF] allowed straw purchasers to buy and distribute among the criminal element in our society and throughout Mexico." ...

"REMEMBER the Iran-Contra hearings?"

"It was a blockbuster, complete with blonde ingenues (pretty Fawn Hall, the Siren of Shredding), handsome Oliver North (Mel Gibson with medals) and despicable villains (terrorists, Communists and, for his critics, a clueless commander in chief). I'm still fascinated at the way we turned serious foreign-policy decisions into fodder for the afternoon soaps crowd. ..."

"I read Eugene Robinson's article, 'Iowa Straw Poll Winner was Obama,' in the News-Times Thursday edition and felt compelled to set the record straight."

"He informs his readers that Michele Bachmann was 'swept to an impressive victory.' Impressive victory, Eugene? She received a whopping 152 more votes than 12-term Congressman Ron Paul. Mr. Robinson, then goes on to disparage this distinguished congressman by stating that he is someone 'who seems to inhabit his own little reality." ...

"If a Pittsfield chiropractor gets his way, his neighbors will be allowed to be armed in public."

"Dan Mefford is spearheading a petition drive to have an initiative addressing the weapons issue placed on the March primary ballot."

"'The initiative essentially bypasses the Chicago Machine that is currently ruling Illinois,' Mefford said. 'I recommend that each county in Illinois get on board and pass the same gutsy version for the constitutional carry of arms.'"

"An initiative is a process that enables a specified number of voters by petition to propose a law and submit it to voters in a general election."

"Still, there are hurdles to clear before carrying weapons in Pike County is legal." ...

"It's going to take much longer for police in Montgomery County to figure out how to prevent it from happening again."

"By now you have seen the headlines and images of destruction: the rioting, looting, violent assaults, and arson. London and other UK cities look like war zones and their citizens are afraid to venture out, because the danger is very real. It's a view of the temporary breakdown of society. It is gut check time; a time when the concept of being able to defend oneself gives way to the stark reality that few viable options to do so exist." ...
