Local and parish taxing authorities — whether they like it or not — are going to have to forgive taxes on the sales of guns and hunting equipment for a holiday that the state created then opted out of last month.

Suspending Louisiana’s three sales tax holidays — to the surprise of some legislators — was part of a deal that was slammed together to keep state government from careening off the fiscal cliff.

Let’s be honest. If you own guns or you’re a gun-rights supporter, and if you’re concerned about government restrictions on your Second Amendment rights, the future looks bright. The elevation of Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court may well represent the death knell for draconian forms of gun control — including bans on so-called “assault weapons” and bans on standard-capacity magazines in semi-automatic pistols and rifles.

ATF data undercuts claims that criminals in gun-controlled cities are getting the majority of their guns from surrounding states. The left has long claimed that the failures of gun control in cities like Baltimore or Chicago can be chalked up to lax gun laws in surrounding states. But the ATF’s latest data defeats such claims.

Charleston City Council is set to weigh a resolution on Tuesday that urges "reasonable gun legislation," as state politicians continue to seem unwilling to advance any new firearm laws in the aftermath of gun deaths here in Charleston and across the nation. Items before council on Tuesday also include an ordinance that would ban "enhanced trigger devices" like bump stocks and trigger cranks, which can effectively transform legal guns into illegal automatic weapons. The measure was approved earlier this month by the Public Safety Committee, which also added the resolution urging action by state lawmakers.

Will some careless campaign work and a few missing strikethroughs stop Washingtonians from voting on one of the most comprehensive gun reform measures in the country? It’s up to the Washington State Supreme Court to decide after a Thurston County judge threw out Initiative 1639 on Friday over a technicality. The case is now going to Washington’s highest court, which will hopefully rule on the case before ballots have to be printed early next month.

Near the end of Stacey Abrams’ latest town hall meeting, she heard a question that’s become a near-ritual at these events. A voter wanted to know if talk that Abrams “is going to take away all of the guns” is correct. Her gun stance is a key factor in the race, not least because she embraces firearms restrictions and openly wars with the gun lobby, a shift that breaks with the party’s decades-old political approach to the debate in Georgia.

A judge says a gun buyer screening initiative that Nevada voters approved in November 2016 was fatally flawed and can't be enforced. Guns in the hands of honest citizens saved lives and kept dangerous drugs off Maryland streets. Let's learn from this example.

The superintendent of Chicago's beleaguered police department shifted the blame for the city's gun violence epidemic from the cops to the courts, blaming judges and prosecutors who refuse to jail repeat offenders arrested with illegal firearms.

Johnson, who has called for tougher punishment in the past for those convicted of firearms offenses, said "as long as we fail to create repercussions for carrying and using illegal guns, or more importantly, hold repeat violent offenders accountable for their actions, we’re simply going to continue to have these discussions on Monday mornings.”

Submitters note: Finally someone tells the truth. If you remove the certainty of punishment, you only encourage continuation of the problem.

Having sponsors is great, so having a great sponsor…….well you know where this is going. Boyds Gunstocks, a company that has looked at you and at the fit of a rifle and figured out how to merge those 2 concepts into a product….they are a great sponsor. So I decided to build, what for me would be the Ultimate Scout Rifle!

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The "assault weapon" ban didn't stop the [World Trade Center/Pentagon] terrorists, Brady checks didn't stop them, the high capacity magazine ban didn't. Right to Carry would have. If it had saved only one tower and the people in it, it would have been worth it. GUN CONTROL KILLS. — LTC Stasski, 9/11/01
