... "Forgive me, Mr. Mayor, if I don't think my going about in public with a gun poses as much of a threat as you going about with a car. With your fly undone. And, inexplicably (except you do control the police), with no test for alcohol, despite statements indicating this was a concern based on two independent witness observations." ...

"Wednesday morning's on-line Seattle Post-Intelligencer brought another bit of sterling reporting by Casey McNerthney, this time about a Seattle recidivist identified as David W. Groce."

"The story detailed how Groce allegedly strolled into the Union Street Market wearing a hooded sweatshirt, pulled a pistol and robbed the place Sunday evening. ..." ...

"If all of these accounts and allegations are true, Groce is a bad guy."

"Contrast that with the scenario played out on Aug. 15 down in SeaTac, where dozens of open carry activists gathered at an apartment complex for an annual barbecue. There were lots of people, both male and female, legally packing firearms, having a good time, and nobody suffered so much as a scratch. These are the good guys." ...

"Reed Hubbell, a junior at Hotchkiss High School, recently attended National Rifle Association Youth Education Summit (YES) in Washington, D.C."

"Each year, the NRA selects the best and the brightest students to visit the nation's capital where participants learn the significance of the U.S. Constitution and the Bill of Rights while developing an understanding of federal government and the importance of active participation."

"The application process is highly competitive, but successful scholars are rewarded with a seven-day, expense-paid leadership week in Washington, D.C. Hubbell paid his own airfare; from that point, the activities were well organized, top notch and free for participants." ...

"A storm of liberal anti-gun opinion is swelling to force international anti-gun policies on American citizens as NAGR continues the fight to protect the Second Amendment from international gun grabbers."

"Recently we reported that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the Obama Administration are pushing for Senate ratification of the United Nations' 'Small Arms Treaty.' The National Association for Gun Rights has taken the lead on stopping this end-run around the Constitution by contacting millions of Americans about this impending threat to their liberties, and working with principled leaders in Washington, D.C. to build a bulwark against the treaty." ...

EPA considers ban on traditional ammunition

... "The EPA is considering this ban despite the fact that there is no scientific evidence that the use of lead-based ammunition has any adverse effect on wildlife populations. The agency is also apparently ignoring a 2008 Center for Disease Control study that showed no adverse health risks are associated with human consumption of game harvested with traditional, lead-based ammunition."

"Wildlife management is currently under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the wildlife agencies of the 50 states and not the EPA."

"Many gun rights activists consider this petition a 'back door' approach to gun control and the first step to an eventual outright ban on ammunition." ...

"I am not a fan of guns. While I appreciate the Second Amendment, I choose not to bear arms. And I had hoped to choose the same for our kids. I prefer they play with trains, balls, books, cars and even dolls…anything but guns. Even though we don't have one in the house, Jonas has begun making his own. He’ll fashion one out of Lincoln logs, his hand, a piece of paper or whatever else is available to him. We haven't shown him how to craft, aim and shoot them. It is somehow intuitive. Which leaves me wondering: was he born with a gun gene?"

"Post-Obama-is-coming! Obama-is-coming! Now that he’s come and home defense sporting assault rifles are still for sale, black rifle mania has subsided. Gunmakers are fighting to carve up the way less manic market. In fact, there’s a black gun glut at the moment; prices are soft. But the number of people opting for the AR platform—as opposed to Ye Olde Bolt-Action rifle—is much larger than it was 'afore. The AR is America’s rifle, and America’s gunmakers want a big ole’ piece of that pie. Enter the Ruger SR-556/6.8 . . ." ...

"During the Victorian era that rifle was the Martini-Henry. At the end of the 1964 film Zulu, which chronicled the events of the almost infamous frontier outpost of Rorke's Drift along Zululand where approximately 100 British soldiers fended off an attack by some four thousand Zulu warriors, Stanley Baker replies that the victory wasn't merely a miracle, but rather, 'a short chamber Boxer Henry .45-caliber miracle.'"

"First, pro-gunners, and Conservatives in general, want a candidate who would rather be back home, working at their chosen profession or business, but realizes they must run because of the current state of affairs in our nation. In other words, a candidate who runs not because of ego, but out of true concern for America."

"One of this column's regular readers in the Spokane area is concerned that gun prohibitionists will use the incident as a platform from which to launch another campaign to take guns out of the hands of private citizens. FULL TEXT BELOW:

It took a man in Germany five years to realize he was walking around with a bullet lodged in his head.

Robert Chojecki, 35, is recovering from surgery to remove it.

Police say he was hit by the stray 22-caliber bullet during a New Year's Eve celebration.

Chojecki says he thought he had bumped his head or was hurt by a firecracker.

He says he began to get headaches a year ago, and only went to the doctor recently.

Since the bullet had not penetrated his skull, doctors say it was not life-threatening and that he could have gone a few more years without having it removed.
