"No need to 'demonstrate' why you wish to exercise a Constitutional right."

"The Second Amendment Foundation has joined a U.S. District Court lawsuit filed in New York, which demands a permanent injunction against a state law that requires applicants for gun permits to demonstrate ìgood cause."

"'American citizens should not have to demonstrate good cause in order to exercise a constitutionally-protected civil right,' said SAF executive vice president Alan Gottlieb. 'Our civil rights, including the right to keep and bear arms, should not be subject to the whims of a local government or its employees.'" ...

"U.S. citizens have a constitutional right to keep and bear arms. The scope of that right is a source of constant debate, but the Supreme Court recently affirmed the right of individuals to own firearms. Cities, states, and the federal government are free to regulate firearms sales, transport, and ownership, but America's highest court has made it clear that the government can't ban firearms ownership altogether."

A national gun-control group is backing Gov. Pat Quinn in the fall election because of what it calls the "extremism" of his Republican opponent.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence gave its support to Quinn Tuesday. It says he favors tougher gun restrictions that Republican Sen. Bill Brady opposes.

Quinn and Brady have strong differences on guns, including on whether to approve concealed carry of firearms. Brady is for it and Quinn is against.

The Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence was founded by President Ronald Reagan's former press secretary, Jim Brady. He was seriously wounded in 1981 by a gunman who tried to assassinate the president.

He said the internal investigation found while Officer Jones did many things right during that traffic stop, 'some procedures were not properly followed.' State Police arrested Lee County Sheriff Donnie Hogan around midnight last night.

Police say they responded to a domestic disturbance call between Sheriff Hogan and his girlfriend.

While police aren't giving many details, they do say Hogan assaulted his girlfriend. He was arrested and taken to the Madison County Detention Center, then released Saturday morning.

The sheriff is charged with assault 4th, which is a misdemeanor. If convicted, the sheriff could face up to a year in prison.

State police say Hogan is presumed innocent until proven guilty, so he will continue to be sheriff despite the arrest.

"It almost looked like a revival in Hamburg on Saturday and Sunday."

"Michael Waddell, Nick Mundt and Travis 'T-Bone' Turner served as preachers in the huge walled tent with clear plastic windows that adjoined the archery section at the Cabela's store in Hamburg."

"All three men, who co-host the hit show 'Bone Collector' on Outdoor Channel, served as the preachers, and the more than 200 people who gathered for the two-hour service served as the choir and congregation. Other than missing a few proclamations of 'Alleluia' or 'Amen,' this was one big love fest for hunting and the hunting lifestyle." ...

"There are several opportunities in the coming months for Iowans to visit a gun show and exploit the non-existent 'Gun Show Loophole.' In Iowa, there is no Gun Show Loophole, since anyone purchasing a handgun in Iowa must possess a valid Iowa Permit to Acquire Handguns or an Iowa Permit to Carry Weapons. There are a few exceptions to this law, but for the most part, the failure to have in one's possession an Iowa PTA or PCW will keep someone from purchasing a handgun – even at a gun show."

"Trade Show Productions puts on some of the bigger shows in Iowa, and their upcoming shows for 2010 are:" ...

"I don't quite follow the logic of the man who wrote that he believes the Founding Fathers' intent was for the 'well regulated militia' to all carry single-shot rifles or pistols, not modern assault weapons."

"The single shot was the 'assault weapon' of its day - it was all they had. But today it is primarily a hunting weapon, and the Second Amendment has nothing to do with hunting."

"We have no inherent right to hunt. But that amendment does give us the inherent right to protect ourselves. And with that right also comes the obligation to protect our loved ones and property." ...
