"If Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton runs for the presidency in 2004, 2008 or the year 3000, she will do so with a bunch of Queens veterans angrier than a pit bull with a toothache."

" 'Her actions toward our organization, veterans and the families of foreign-war heroes, are an utter disgrace,' said Dan O'Sullivan."

"California is an even worse case. Mountain lions were declared off limits to hunters in 1972, and in 1990 Proposition 117, a ballot initiative, created a special class of protection for mountain lions."

"Tense encounters between mountain lions and humans, including some attacks, began rising soon after hunting ended, and in 1994 two women were killed and partially eaten by mountain lions."

"That stimulated another ballot initiative, this one aimed at rescinding special protection for mountain lions. It failed at the ballot box, which should tell you something about the mental acuity of California voters."

"A civil-libertarian backlash against the PATRIOT Act is gathering steam. More than 140 cities and communities in 27 states have passed resolutions opposing it, according to the ACLU. The ACLU itself has intensified its nonstop barrage, filing a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of one of the act's most far-reaching provisions, and airing TV ads that warn of government spies secretly searching homes." ...

"Do 309 House members really want to require the FBI to leave a nice note for the next Mohamed Atta, if and when agents have a chance to sneak into his motel room and copy computer files detailing the identities of his co-conspirators? It's not easy to tell: The platitudinous floor debate left unclear whether the purpose is to bar all delayed-notice searches, despite decades of judicial precedent upholding such searches under some circumstances, or just to roll the clock back to before the PATRIOT Act. Otter demonstrated his own command of the subject by claiming that Section 213 'allows the CIA and the NSA to operate domestically.' Wrong."

"War on Terrorism": Does the U.S. Government Really Have Our Best Interests In Mind?

"Even if the administration is covering the Saudi government’s tracks to preserve a political relationship with an important oil producer (the need for which economists on both the right and left would likely find questionable) to get cheap crude, can that goal be more important than bringing people to justice who are linked to a horrific attack on American soil and stopping the money flow to the group that perpetrated it and are a continuing threat? A government truly concerned about the security of its people would find the answer to this question obvious and pressure the Saudi government to come clean—rather than sheltering the despotic regime."

"So we must come to the startling conclusion that the U.S. government does not always have the best interests of its citizens at heart. Regrettably, a government 'of the people, by the people and for the people' may have already perished from the Earth."

"A bigger question is why has there never been a trial of the communists? No ideology has been responsible for more human carnage, destruction and misery. The Soviets accounted for forty to fifty million deaths, the Chinese for 60 to 100 million. Next to Lenin, Stalin, Mao and Chou, Hitler was almost a minor leaguer. Cambodia's Pol Pot annihilated two to three million or nearly half its population, leading to a new term - autogenocide. Fidel Castro's summary executions of tens of thousands are never even mentioned anymore. After the collapse of Nazi Germany, the most anti-Semitic regime in the world was the Soviet Union. No nation has ever done more than Germany to repent for its past yet regularly we are reminded of those horrors. There have been no apologies from communism."

GRNC Alert:

"Given GRNC's nine year history of exposing NRA sellouts, the NRA has a strong interest in silencing what it regards as a thorn in its side. So imagine our surprise when, on July 16, NRA lawyer Dan Zavodil filed a 'defamation of character' lawsuit against Grass Roots North Carolina based on alleged private comments about an NRA lobbyist (U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Virginia, Alexandria Division, case #CA 03-906-A). Even more telling, although the NRA lawyer issued an arbitrary July 18, 2003 'deadline' by which GRNC's president was supposed to comply with his demands, he filed the lawsuit on July 16, BEFORE HIS OWN 'DEADLINE' HAD EXPIRED. Does this sound like someone interested in settling a lawsuit?"

A Baltimore City jury convicted a man who threw his gun into a car, which landed on a girl's lap.

Anthony Bost, who also goes by Antoine Green, 21, of Baltimore, was convicted Tuesday for wearing and carrying a handgun, in addition to two counts of reckless endangerment and assault.

At 11:30 a.m., on Oct. 20, 2002, a mother and her teenage daughter were sitting in their car in the area of Greenmount and Eager streets when police approached Bost, who was standing on a nearby corner.

According to court documents, Bost fled on foot and during his flight, discarded a loaded H&K .32-caliber revolver by dropping it in the open passenger window of the car. The gun landed on the girl's lap and fell to the floor.

Sentencing is scheduled for Aug. 13.
