... "This, of course, presupposes meaningful data trends can be established through such a limited sampling, especially since it has not yet been established what the reaction will be once criminals learn that police are trying to trick them with … scarecrows. In fairness to the idea though, the cardboard cutout looks like it would stand almost as good a chance at catching a nimble, youthful bike thief as its real-life counterpart." ...

"The Second Amendment Foundation is busier than ever."

"We currently have 24 open legal cases across the country trying to earn a victory in each and every one in order to protect our gun rights."

"Along with the massive workload we have undertaken, we may be seeing a flood of anti-gun legislation as cities are rallying to destroy our self-defense laws after the not guilty verdict was reached in Florida regarding the Zimmerman case." ...

"Today in Milwaukee, Wis. – a city about the same size as Seattle – anti-gun Mayor Tom Barrett and Police Chief Edward Flynn appear to have cracked a code about homicide that some of their contemporaries out here in the Pacific Northwest just can’t grasp."

"According to today’s Journal-Sentinel newspaper, Barrett and Flynn have concluded that 'the linkage between firearms-related deadly violence and criminals was clear-cut.'"

"Flynn was quoted by the newspaper observing that the majority of shooters and their victims were people with long criminal histories. ..." ...

"KVI’s John Carlson was having some fun this morning with a story out of Texas that has lots of people cheering for a Colorado County couple who were held at gunpoint, forced to take money from a bank where the wife worked and then turned the tables when the husband reached a gun in his truck and shot them both, one fatally." ...

"Carlson’s conclusion: Good, and it appears the citizens of Colorado County concur. Carlson’s assessment goes something like this: In Seattle, such a story would shock some people into fits about gun violence, while in Texas, this sort of thing might be considered a community service." ...

"The weekend’s mayhem in Venice Beach, coupled with a crazy truck crash episode in Seattle and last week’s discussion of teen suicide in King County have highlighted the double standard applied to death by any means other than firearms."

"One woman was killed in Saturday’s California car rampage and several others were injured, and in Seattle, a man is in jail after ramming a pickup into a police car and the Highline Medical Center Saturday morning. These incidents have been followed by silence about cracking down on car owners." ...

"With the inexcusable wrong of Illinois' self-defense ban now righted (well, nine months from now, really, thanks to the Illinois State Police and a federal judge), Ms. Shepard will no longer be compelled by law to be the next Willis Bates' victim."

"This is the first FNH weapon I’ve owned. Wait, I take that back. It’s the first FNH I’ve owned that wasn’t issued to me. I’ve “owned” or been in direct supervision of four FNH-made weapons before. During my deployment to Iraq, I carried an FNH-made M16A2. Our crew-served weapon was an FNH made M249 SAW machine gun. An FNH-made MK19 40mm automatic grenade launcher graced the turret of our HUMMVEE. I guess you could say that I’ve been an FNH guy long before I ever technically owned an FNH . . ." ...

"Like many of you, I grew up playing cowboys and Indians which I guess is politically incorrect these days but toy Colt 45 Peacemakers that fired caps were all the rage. Remember the toy guns of your youth. My Peacemaker was silver and I would put a roll of caps into it so that every time I pressed the trigger it would go bang. I imagine that if anyone did that now, a SWAT team would show up real soon. Heck, you can get suspended from school for just making the shape of a gun with your hand." ...

"TTAG doesn’t have a monopoly on firearms-related truthiness. From time to time, gunsamerica.com is not averse to telling it like it is. 'If you remember back to our original story on the Taurus Judge Polymer, one of the biggest problems with the gun was an almost complete lack of ballistic integrity.' OK, they almost didn’t sugar coat it. The hedge: Taurus’ shotshell revolver is effective at point blank range. Further out, not so much. ... And so 'Hornady has engineered a new addition to their Critical Defense handgun ammo specifically for short barreled .410 pistols, called Triple Defense, and through powder blending and some interesting projectile choices, the .410 revolver can now at least be used as an effective self defense weapon.' ..." ...

"The world the people behind Mayors Against Illegal Guns inhabit seems to be mighty black and white. ... Mark Glaze, executive director of MAIG, believes that someone should only be allowed to use a gun to defend themselves if their attacker also has a one. In his opinion, the lack of a gun indicates that the attacker 'just wants to have a fistfight.' Yeah, well, tell that to the two people per day in this country who are beaten to death with their attackers’ bare hands. Or the 12 others who die every day from attacks that don’t involve firearms. In those cases, Mark Glaze would rather the victim not even have the option to defend their lives. Here’s the transcript of a conversation he had recently ..." ...

But we can trust Long to come out of the woodwork any time he perceives a real or imagined threat to 'our Second Amendment rights.'"

"But it would be nice if he could define these rights for us. Do we not get tired of hearing about them? How about responsibilities? Whatever, these 'rights' are not unlimited. In fact, they’ve already been 'infringed.' We can’t own machine guns and I doubt that we can own grenade launchers. The founders, by the way, would allow Ed to own a flint lock musket only, provided he joined a 'well regulated militia.'" ...

"We can't imagine why a 20-year-old man was carrying around a toy gun Thursday night in Farmington, but he must have had his reasons."

"Instead of a night on the town with his toy pistol, John Cushman ended up at the Franklin County Detention Center charged with terrorizing." ...

"But the incident says a lot about how people generally regard other people carrying guns in public — with suspicion."

"It is legal to carry a gun openly in Maine, and it's equally legal to carry a look-alike replica. Few people do, which is probably a good thing considering the ruckus it causes in populated places." ...

"Let me start with this: there’s no chance in hell that this bill will pass. H.R. 2910 is a House bill, meaning that the Republican controlled legislative body would need to approve it before it gets its day in the Senate (full text here). A few weeks ago, St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner reported that Congressman Henry Waxman (D-CA) had announced his intention to introduce the 'Gun Violence Prevention and Reduction Act of 2013.' So you may be wondering what our elected leaders are up to, and rest assured they aren't doing anything to make you or your family safer or lower taxes. Oh no, they are wasting time and money on ridiculous bills with that are so far from reality they don't have a snowball's chance in hell of passing. "We reported late last week that the Brady Campaign for Civilian Disarmament had lost their lawsuit against Armslist, a website that allows private individuals to get together to buy, sell and trade guns online. The practice of selling a firearm to another resident of the same state is not a crime (in most places) ... But the Brady Campaign argued that since the Armslist website allows users to view listings of firearms from multiple states, they were enticing people to break the law and ship guns across state lines without a background check. ... And when the normal rules of liability blocked them from pursuing their suit further, they asked the court to ignore the law. You can imagine how well that went over . . ." ...
