If you were to ask five different self defense instructors about what weapon you should use in your home for personal defense, you’ll likely get five different answers. You can bet though that one will most likely recommend a shotgun and another a handgun, but of the two which is better for you and your needs?

Berkeley middle school humanities teacher Yvette Falarca appeared in court to enter a plea against felony assault charges she faces for punching a neo-Nazi at a far-right rally in Sacramento in 2016. Falarca was filmed slugging a member of the white supremacist Traditionalist Worker Party and shouting “get the fuck out of our streets!” According to Berkleyside, Falarca was arrested last month on misdemeanor charges that she incited a riot, in addition to the assault charge. Felarca was briefly put on leave by the Berkeley school district following the release of the video last year, but was reinstated six weeks later amid tremendous support in the community.

“The Supreme Court sided with the Henry County Board of Education when it reversed the May 2016 ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals which wrongfully placed the burden on school systems to disprove a student’s claim of self-defense,” school board spokesman J.D. Hardin said in a statement.

The racist vitriol on display in Charlottesville, Va., was shocking; the death of Heather Heyer was tragic. But one of the most striking things about the photographs and videos from the protest is the prevalence of guns — and in some cases, semiautomatic assault weapons.

Many of them were carried not by law enforcement in riot gear, but legally by protesters and members of militia groups. Such weapons at demonstrations, at best, raise tensions and intimidate. At worst, they could lead to bloodshed.

A day after he announced his support of a 23-state coalition asking the U.S. Supreme Court to allow a Ten Commandments display on First Amendment grounds, Georgia Attorney General Chris Carr said Thursday he has joined a 21-state coalition defending the rights of gun owners under the Second Amendment.

"It is the duty of the Office of the Attorney General to uphold and defend the rights and liberties of our citizens under both the U.S. and Georgia Constitutions," Carr said in a news release. "The Second Amendment gives law abiding citizens the right to not only keep, but also to bear, arms and we joined this brief because the Fourth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals inappropriately adopted an unduly restrictive view of the Second Amendment."

Some Iowa sheriffs say an increase in the number of non-professional permits to carry handguns, coupled with new or recent gun laws in the state, have increased safety risks in their counties.

They point to provisions in the new Iowa Omnibus Gun Law, adopted this year, that decreases the punishment for carrying a firearm while intoxicated and increased the ability to use a stand-your-ground defense when firing a gun at someone else.

“The Constitution is a shield from the tyranny of the majority,” so said U.S. District Federal Judge, Roger Benitez late last June when he blocked one of the most horrific laws yet to damage the 2nd Amendment of the Bill of Rights — even in California dominated by one political party and one political ideology. A California referendum, potentially making thousands, perhaps millions, felons, was to go into effect July 1.

A federal court this week sided with the owner of a long-ago planned gun store whose business permit was rejected by Chicago officials over a technicality.

On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Robert M. Dow rejected the city’s bid to dismiss the case brought about by the owner of Second Amendment Arms in 2010, finding that his permit was likely denied because of the now-repealed city-wide ban on gun stores that was in place at the time.

If you've had your eye on some device or gear that will turn your hunting season from "meh" to "woohoo!" this is the weekend you want to buy it. Louisiana's Second Amendment Weekend Sales Tax Holiday isn't quite as generous as it once was, but hunters can still save a few dollars on big purchases.
