By design humans were given the gifts of sight and of hearing to name a few. These traits make us aware of things in our environment that could cause us harm or personal injury. The sound of a horn, or a flash of movement in our peripheral vision as examples.

These gifts or human traits could be used in mortal conflict and often are — but in a different vein they can also be used as basic life skills in hunting for the shy local back-lot whitetail buck.

New Mexico's gun ban. On Wednesday, a federal judge temporarily blocked a ban on carrying guns in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the state’s largest city. The order, put in place by Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham (D), has stirred up national attention and controversy across the state.

New Mexico, which is an "open-carry" state, has faced a spate of gun violence this year, headlined by 76 homicides in Albuquerque. It was one of the top three states with the highest gun mortality rates in 2021, and over the last few weeks several children were killed there by gun violence. Lujan Grisham said gun violence is now the leading cause of death for children and teens in her state.

A man who was charged in connection with the shooting death of a teenager more than three years ago in Lansing has been acquitted on all charges.

A jury in Ingham County Circuit Court deliberated most of Friday and part of Monday before finding Terrance Leonte Wallace Jr., 30, not guilty of murder and four other counts following a six-day trial.

Dhanthan Amadi-Devoe Boggan Jr., 19, died after being shot during an argument in the 900 block of Johnson Avenue on June 3, 2020, Lansing police said at the time. Wallace was not arrested at the scene but turned himself in to police later, they said.

So far this year (2023), there have been 480 mass shootings and 29,152 gun violence incidents according to the Gun Violence Archive.

While criminal law can punish some people for intentionally or recklessly shooting another person, it may not cover accidental shootings. This means no financial compensation for such gunshot injury.

That is why hiring a shooting victim lawsuit injury lawyer is recommended if you or your loved one is a victim of a shooting. The lawyer can help you file a civil lawsuit against the shooter, gun company, and/or the property owner.

The Second Amendment Foundation has scored an important First Amendment victory before a federal appeals court panel in San Francisco which unanimously reversed a lower court’s denial of a preliminary injunction in a challenge of California’s law prohibiting advertising of firearms products in a way that may appeal to minors.

At issue is California Business and Professions Code § 22949.80, which prohibits advertising of any “firearm-related product in a manner that is designed, intended, or reasonably appears to be attractive to minors.”

A conservative panel of a federal appeals judges ruled against yet another California gun law Wednesday, this time holding that California “cannot straightjacket the First Amendment” by allowing minors to possess firearms, then banning truthful advertisements about those firearms. The ruling comes just days after the same panel ruled against California’s restrictive open-carry law.

Although the trial court initially ruled in favor of the state, allowing the law to take effect and saying that it likely did not violate the First Amendment, a three-judge panel of Republican-appointed riders[sic] overturned the lower court ruling, saying that the law likely violates the free speech right and will not take effect while the case is pending.

The California law was passed last year in the wake of numerous shootings and a Supreme Court ruling that New York’s century old gun control law, the Sullivan Act, was unconstitutional.

NM: New Mexico “Emergency” Gun Ban a Violation of the Right of Self Defense

New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lynn Lujan Grisham’s “emergency” order banning the carrying of firearms in Albuquerque and Bernalillo County is a violation of the natural rights of the people, and likely a violation of the state constitution as well.

Natural Right of Self Defense

This should be obvious — but the Bill of Rights doesn’t give you rights. The Second Amendment is not your “gun permit.” The fact that you exist serves as your gun permit. As John Dickinson (the Penman of the American Revolution) put it, “Our liberties do not come from charters; for these are only the declaration of pre-existing rights.”

I can’t emphasize this enough – your rights don’t come from government.

The deadline for the California state legislature to pass bills out of chamber is next week. Antigun state legislators are ramming through even more gun control legislation for legislative action with that deadline looming.

California already can rightfully argue they are the strictest gun control state in the country. Gov. Gavin Newsom is even pushing for a Constitutional amendment to do away with Second Amendment rights. That’s not stopping them from rushing to implement even more gun control in the waning days of the session.

A federal appeals court on Wednesday opened the way to block a California law that bans gun ads aimed at children, saying it went too far in restricting lawful speech.

Sporting and gun rights groups and the publisher of a youth shooting magazine had sought an injunction to temporarily stop the law from taking effect, arguing that it blocked the marketing of legal gun events and recruitment for safe and responsible youth sport-shooting and hunting programs.

A lower court denied that request. But on Wednesday a three-member panel of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals reversed that decision.

No one should suggest that Hunter Biden’s wrongdoings be overlooked if that means equal treatment for Donald Trump. How about we just let the criminal justice system decide the fate of both men and agree that each receive the merited punishment?

In the meantime, it would be wonderful to see the same level of gusto Republicans have for Biden’s alleged disregard for gun laws applied to everyone who wants to but shouldn’t possess a firearm.

Ed.: Or we could just repeal 922(g)(3)

The City of Philadelphia, Ceasefire PA, and the co-victims filed Crawford v. Commonwealth in October 2020, arguing that the state’s 1974 preemption statute violates Philadelphians’ fundamental right to life and liberty as provided by the state constitution.

Eliminating preemption, or narrowing its application, would allow Philadelphia and other cities across the Keystone State to pass permit-to-purchase laws, extreme risk protection orders, monthly handgun purchasing limits, or other changes advocates say could help prevent homicides, mass shootings, and suicides.

In 1984, Gun Digest published an article by Jeff Cooper titled, “The Scout Rifle Idea: You May Need Single Hits, Not Volume Fire.” That article was the beginning of the enigma that the Scout Rifle concept has become. Since then, several manufacturers and many custom builders have attempted to either create a rifle that meets Cooper’s specifications or one that would embody the general-purpose spirit Cooper felt his concept rifle exemplified. With the new Momentum All-Terrain Elite, Franchi did not set out to do the first, but they very much have accomplished the latter.

Pro-gun groups that oppose firearm restrictions say they have no problem with Hunter Biden’s indictment on Thursday, on charges stemming from his purchase of a pistol during a period when he has admitted to using drugs.

They may not like the laws. But it’s only fair, they say, that the president’s son get punished just like anyone else.

“Gun Owners of America opposes all gun control, but so long as this President continues to use every tool at his disposal to harass and criminalize guns, gun owners and gun dealers, his son should be receiving the same treatment and scrutiny as all of us,” Erich Pratt, senior vice president of the organization, said in a statement on Thursday.

A large coalition of House Republicans led by Rep. Dan Newhouse, R-Wash., introduced a resolution Thursday condemning Democratic New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham over her now-blocked gun carry ban.

The GOP resolution would condemn Lujan Grisham in response to her emergency order last week which suspended concealed and open carry in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and the surrounding Bernalillo County for at least 30 days. Republicans, some Democrats and Second Amendment advocates have heavily criticized Lujan Grisham, arguing the order infringes on Americans' constitutional rights.

Congresswoman Elise Stefanik voted to send the Protecting Hunting Heritage and Education Act to the floor. This bipartisan legislation ensures that American students' Second Amendment rights cannot be infringed upon by the Biden Administration by amending the Elementary and Secondary Education Act to clarify schools’ programs training students in archery, hunting and other recreational shooting sports are eligible for funding after the Biden Administration’s Department of Education moved to defund these programs. Millions of students across the country participate in archery and hunting education programs to learn safe and responsible firearm handling and experience outdoor recreation.

A federal appeals court in August struck down a decades-old law barring users of illegal drugs from possessing firearms – another blow to US gun regulations after the Supreme Court cleared the way for courts to reexamine the nation’s gun laws under a new legal standard – and a ruling that could be relevant in the new indictment of Hunter Biden.

Anyone who violates the law may face a fine of up to $500 for the first offense, and a fine between $500 and $5,000 for any further violations.

For years, gun control organizations have been seeking to dismantle the bipartisan Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA).

That’s the crucial federal law shielding firearms manufacturers and sellers from frivolous lawsuits designed to bankrupt law-abiding businesses by blaming them for the criminal misuse of lawfully sold firearms or drive the industry to its knees and impose gun control through court-ordered settlements. It is what former Clinton Secretary of Labor Robert Reich dubbed “regulation through litigation.”

Hunter Biden’s gun charges put Second Amendment back in play

For a time, it looked like Hunter Biden could become an unlikely poster child for the Second Amendment. Then it looked like a moot issue in the face of an apparent plea deal.

But now, after the deal dissolved and he was indicted Thursday, one effect of the indictment against the president’s son is that prosecutors have put in play a contentious legal issue that’s far from settled. By bringing these charges, the government is effectively inviting a drawn-out fight on a subject that’s been increasingly scrutinized by the courts, following the GOP-controlled Supreme Court’s revolutionary expansion of gun rights.

The day after UNC-Chapel Hill went into lockdown for the second time in a few weeks because of gun violence, House Speaker Tim Moore questioned why the campus is a gun-free zone. “You’re not just going to snap your fingers and get rid of guns,” said Moore, a Kings Mountain Republican. “That’s not reality; criminals are going to have guns. And the best deterrent against a criminal with a gun is a good guy with a gun.” State law makes it a felony to carry a gun on campus or other educational property. Republicans have total control of the General Assembly. Moore is in his fifth and final term as speaker.

There has been a major court ruling that affects gun reform laws in Cincinnati.

Judge Jennifer Branch issued a temporary injunction that stops the state from preventing city leaders to enact their own gun laws.

"This decision is a massive win for every, single Cincinnatian," Mayor Aftab Pureval said.

It's a partial victory for city leaders who want to enact their own gun laws.

"We are ready and eager to continue our legal fight to protect families," Pureval said.

The city passed a safe storage law this year, as well as one that would prohibit anyone convicted of domestic violence or named in a protection order from having access to a firearm.
